Narrowly escaping death at the hands of the Magistrate, Mira travels west, toward the coast. With three weakened human fugitives accompanying her, she searches for the mythical land of Sanctuary. After encountering a pack of wolf shifters, headed by the charismatic—and brazen—Stryker, Mira learns that Sanctuary is real after all. Caldera Grove: home of the Otherkin. Hidden in the mouth of a dormant volcano, it has protected its residents from humans since the early days following the great cataclysm. For Mira— a vampire— Caldera Grove is a land of peace; an escape from the relentless persecution of the humans who once enslaved her, and an end to the daily struggle and bloodshed of being a gladiator. For the humans accompanying her, Caldera Grove means death. Humans, greedy and untrustworthy creatures, are destroyed before they can penetrate its borders. To plead her case for entry into Caldera, Mira must abandon her companions, albeit temporarily, and follow Stryker into the heart of the city. What she finds within Caldera Grove presents her with an unenviable decision between her own desires for freedom and peace, or honor and the human companions who risked it all for her.
I am loving this heroine! Mira might not be soft and fluffy but with her years as a vampire gladiator I didn't expect her to be. She has never had reason to trust anyone and yet with her recent escape aided by three humans she's finally beginning to question just who is good and who really is evil. Having heard long ago of a mythical place of sanctuary Mira and her companions travel into the badlands but their arrival has unexpected complications. Humans are not allowed and Mira is faced with a choice, turn or leave the people who saved her to die out in the badlands ! This world the author has created is gritty and very compelling reading. Once I pick it up I don't want it to end and yes there's a wee bit of a cliffhanger . These characters are so varied and initially I'd thought that Lucian the human who finally wised up to the atrocities occurring might be paired off with Mira. Well surprise surprise the author has thrown a huge curb ball here with the introduction of Stryker. Stryker is the alpha shifter who is tasked with ensuring Miras compliance. It's not a romance but the dynamics are shifting and whilst I'm never a fan of triangles seeing Mira come to terms with the idea of friends and allies was like a ray of sunshine . Her life has been dark and truly abysmal leaving her bloodthirsty in more ways than one but she's on a path that could quite literally change the world! I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review and frankly can't wait to read more!
A perfect follow up to Dissension and I'm already aching to know what's going to happen next. The suspense is terrible! In a good way. We get to see Mira outside of Iron Gate doing what she does best- survive. Now with Lucian and two other humans in tow, they're searching for the Sanctuary of legend where her kind live in peace. What she finds is more than she ever thought she would. Nothing comes easy for Mira and her companions and the challenges only get bigger with greater costs. Mira seems up for the task but when she discovers the price she'll have to pay to stay at Sanctuary, I think she's about pushed to her limit. I can't wait to continue the story to see how Mira and Lucian do with what's coming.
I loved book 1 and was so excited when this came to audio, while I enjoyed it I thought it was missing the intenseness that book 1 had.
Mira is on the run and trying to reach sanctuary with the humans that helped her, only thing is she has to escape the people that are chasing her, and deal with the fact that humans aren't allowed in sanctuary. How can she get her friends into Sanctuary and who are the wolves following her too?
Mira is as awesome as always. She has been through hell and only wants to live a safe life. Her feelings about humans has changed a lot since her captivity and she knows that if they aren't allowed in sanctuary, then she won't go either. I loved that about her. She may be kick ass but she has a heart too.
The plot was relatively fast paced. It wasn't as action packed as the first book but it still held my attention throughout. I liked the otherkin angle and loved the wolves, though I loathe a love triangle and am really hoping this isn't going down that road!!!
In all, this was a really good second book. I wanted a little more action but we get a bit more character development, which I suppose is a good trade off ;)
This is a different narrator than book 1 and while she did a great job, I found her to be a little flat on the action scenes. I needed a little more pizzazz from her to enjoy it thoroughly.
*I received a copy of this for review. This in no way affects my thoughts.*
Awesome follow-up to the series opener, Dissension! This one was a quick read and introduced some great new characters and--like the title says--complications. I love where the series is going from here.
Mira's life has taken an unexpected turn now that she's escaped the city. With Lucian and his two friends by her side, she's not exactly sure of what will become of them. They have nothing to their name. No food, no drink, nothing that can endear them to others. Though she knows their situation is precarious, she sort of doesn't care. She's free of the slavery she's endured for so long, and that's all that really matters to her.
Determined to better their situation, Mira decides to seek out the location of the one place she's heard so much about. The very place she and her beloved Master once tried to find. Sanctuary is a thing of legend, and she's not really sure if it does exist. Yet she refuses to give up on the hope roiling within her. There has to be a place out there where she and her new friends can find shelter and call home.
The group's unexpected foray into the unknown soon lands them deep in the woods. For Mira, there's no other thought in her mind except that of finding Sanctuary. When they stumble upon an unlikely ally, the group soon comes to the realization that some legends are really true. For a moment, the thought of getting as far away from the city is all that consumes each and every one of them.
Unfortunately, all is not what it seems. Though Sanctuary is a haven for the Otherworldly, humans are not allowed there. How can they be? They're the very epitome of everything Supernaturals fear. Mira knows that Sanctuary is the group's only hope if they're to get away from those hunting them, once and for all. They need help, and she's not afraid to make that fact known. Somehow, some way, she will make those holed up in Sanctuary see the error of their ways. The question is, how can she do that when the enemy draws ever closer with every step she takes?
Complication is another great addition to this series. The story picks up where the first left off, and dives deep into the chaos that now surrounds Mira and her band of un-merry travelers. The group has been dealt a harsh blow, and they're not sure if they'll survive what's coming for them. Yet they refuse to give up without a fight.
K. A. has built a very believable post-apocalyptic world where it's a thorough survival of the fittest. If you can't conform to the way the world is now, it'll swallow you whole, and spit your bones back out at you. I'm looking forward to what she has in store next for the group itself. Will they find happiness amidst such chaos, I wonder? Only time will tell.
i read and reviewed this on amazon so i apparently at the time did not write reviews on this on goodreads so here is my review Mira and her friends find Sanctuary but she must first travel with Stryker and seek the counsel and find out if the humans like Curtis , Sarah and Lucian can come and be safe but the deal is so much more in which goes against what Mira believes her friends will want and will not take their choice away from them .. Stryker and his pack are along for awhile though Stryker and Mira must stay back due to some fallen friends and to have the group part for a day then meet up but the deal has changed due to the kindness of what the humans did for the pack and they all go to Sanctuary but then have a confrontation but things are not always what they seem , to find out who is the fallen .. did Mra's friends stay alive or are they the fallen .. or will the counsel listen to reason or will they be ignorant and not realize they need to fight not be cowardice to find this and more buy , read and review .. oh yeah some jealousy among two men vying for Mira to find out whom well you know what you got to do buy , read and then review and stay turned to book three or buy the whole series in the complete trilogy for 5.00 instead of 7.00
While I adored the prequel and the first book of this series, this installment fell short in my opinion. It focused too much on the politics of the world, and especially the politics of Sanctuary, and also focused heavily on the violent action (which I skimmed mostly through) and felt rather sparse on plot and events. (Though Mira herself continues to shine in this book and the post-apocalyptic world is interesting). And I didn’t care for the generic shirtless Alpha werewolves that seem to be a dime a dozen in paranormal indie books these days *yawn*. In the first book I loved the relationship between Mira and Lucian and was hoping to see it grow more in this book, but he barely threw in a couple of sentences in the background. I did sense the growing jealousy in him, which was fun. Though I’m not sensing their relationship progressing more in future books since I checked the descriptions on all of them and the reviews and didn’t find any mention of Lucien. It makes me not want to continue on with the series considering it sounds like it’s just going to be more politics and fighting between the two cities and not much beyond that.
Terrific sequel to Dissension! August 4, 2014 Sometimes playing "the game" brings complications, & sometimes complications lead to great things! Five stars to book 2 of a terrific dystopian series I quickly fell in love with! As Mira & her humans continue on their quest for Sanctuary they are constantly having to prove themselves loyal to each other. Seeing through the haze & going against everything you believed true for decades is a difficult task. After 30+ years of being enslaved, forced to kill your own people, & lied to you wouldn't be so quick to trust either.
I could not put this book down! We are introduced to more awesome characters who make you want to follow them anywhere! Mira, Lucian, Stryker....Yes Please!!
If you enjoy stories about finding utopia, supernaturals, vampires, shifters, otherkin, evil rulers, intense battles, & learning to believe in something this series is sure to please you! http://jenisbookshelf.blogspot.com/20...
K.A. Salidas keeps the blood pumping (and spilling all over the ground) in the thrilling sequel to Dissension (The Chronicles of the Uprising series). Mira can't get a break. But that's ok for us readers, safe out here, because it means some great fight scenes! But don't worry, it's not ALL fighting. There are some great interpersonal relationship action happening as well...Because Vampires aren't the only beings living in Sanctuary. I'm keeping it vague, but Complication really IS complicated. So definitely add it to your 'To Be Read' list!
Love the action and the unique world that Katie Salidas has created! This book picks up right where the first one ended, so definitely read that one first, and is told in Mira's POV. Mira is a vampire, who has just escaped slavery with 3 humans that have helped her, they are in search of a place called Sanctuary, that is said to be a safe place for supernaturals, but the journey won't be easy because there are those out there who wish to harm Mira and her friends. Along the way, Mira comes across some new people, and she needs to figure out if they are friend or foe. I love that Mira is a tough chick, and she stands up for herself, and those under her care. I can see her character growing as this series progresses, and I like that she's willing to put herself on the line to help others. There's some new characters that I'm interested to see how their story will play out, and I like the direction this series is going in. I do wish a bit more happened in this book, but it's a fairly short read, so I understand that there couldn't be too much story progression. This story is entertaining, and kept me reading, and I'm definitely excited to see where Mira's story is going to go! Katie Salidas' stories are always unique and interesting!
It's a 3.5 for me. I loved the reveal of there being 'more' out there than just the suffering vampires, like Mira originally thought. I'm still warming up to her but I do love that she admits she has issues and is still trying to work through them. I like that despite her suffering, she still contends to peace and working with the humans who helped her, people from a race that's made life hell on earth.
I love what the author did with sanctuary, but I thought Mira's and the other's arguments were semi-convincing. Had I been a member of the council, I wouldn't have allowed anything else to progress. At least not without a sound argument for why this or that should occur. Still, I did like the new characters added. It didn't feel like much movement considering what happened in the book, but otherwise I was still pretty entertained. Fighting scenes are always good. If you like action with your fantasy in a post-apocalyptic world, totally check this out. I may or may not continue with the novel, because so far it's been touch and go for me. Maybe I'll look at the third book later in the future.
Complication by Katie Salidas is Book 2 of the Chronicles of the Uprising Series and picks up right where the first book leaves off. This series should be read in order.
Having escaped New Haven, Mira and her three human accomplices seek out Sanctuary, a place of refuge; is it real or mythical? 30 years of pain, torture, violence and now she finds herself free of it all. What a magnificent moment for Mira but will she be able to truly enjoy it...and for how long?
Ms. Salidas gives us a stunning read with plenty of action in this continuation of her dystopian/fantasy/paranormal series the Chronicles of the Uprising. A solid world, engaging characters and unique storyline really pull you into the thick of things. Well-done Ms. Salidas!
Please note that an ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review of which this is both honest and completely voluntary.
Sometimes your dreams do come true, just not how you thought it would be. This is so true in the second book of this series. Mira's 30 year old dream comes true, but the struggle is far from over. As in the first book, this is an action packed story that keeps on getting better with the addition of new characters. I read it very quickly, not wanting to put it down. I'm looking forward to reading next book in the series.
An interesting take on the fae world or "Otherkin" as they are referred to in this story, original. The storyline is not quite as strong as the first book, yet I still wish to go forward in the series. The characters are easy to enjoy, and I'm interested in seeing what their futures bring.
A great follow up to book 1. Enjoyed seeing how Mira is dealing with after the escape. I liked Stryker's character and the changed it brings to Mira's story. Excited to see where the next book to the series goes.
I recommend you read the whole series. Katie shines a whole new light on a society that includes vampires (among others). They're not so different than the rest of us - and that may not be such a good thing. Thank goodness 'good' can be found in even the darkest corners.
I read book one, Dissension, almost two years ago. While I'd liked the first novella it ended abruptly--this read more like an installment serial than a true novella. I was disappointed in the price of book 2, which is only advertised as 100 pages, so I decided to stop the serial. I finally managed to pick book 2 up for 1.99, which is more than I like for a hundred pages, but it was a dollar off the old price, so I thought I'd give this one another try as I liked the storyline.
As before, I loved the plot- the author has a nice fluid writing style, unfortunately this was another episode (which I knew before purchase), and it ended at 63 percent-- the rest was filler and marketing for the author's other books. This gets five stars as a well-written serial installment. It loses this reader, who expects more for their dollar-- in this case, I didn't even get the 100 pages I expected for my two bucks.
NOTE: Great writer, but over-priced and the blurb should clearly state this is a serial in installments so the reader can weight the cost of the whole series versus the 60 readable pages offered each time.
I love the vision K.A. has created in Mira. She's a strong character that has grown from the moment we saw her, and tries to be more than the prejudiced that is every strongly present in the world. I still believe, more than ever, that K.A. will be know for what she has created in this series. I'm only at book two, but love what I'm getting and will continue the series.
****FULL REVIEW**** *I requested to review a copy of this audiobook for an honest review from the author.
Mira hates humans for what she was forced to do for the last 30 years. Kill or be killed for their entertainment. But, now that she's escaped New Haven, she finds herself with three humans who helped her. They are more than what she thought, as she is to them. The four travel together to find safety at Sanctuary. But they all may not be safe in Caldera Grove, where humans are forbidden for their treatment of the immortals.
I was nervous coming into this audio book as Kerri is not the narrator from the first book. I shouldn't have worried at all. Kerri is soft and clear spoken with the draw to her pacing that we can easily understand and fits Mira's personality. I was impressed early on. Kerri also slips into the persona of the characters as she reads with personalities coming through in voice and attitude. She does different tones and annunciations for words and attitudes of different characters, such as Lucian as he has a distinct feel that shows he's positive in what he says and use to having power.
K.A. has brought Mira to the next step in her life. We pick up where Dissension ended and find our way into Sanctuary. However, Mira has to make some hard choices. Mira already knows what she'll do though, it's just a matter of will the events that unfold allow room for her to stick to that decision.
As we see the world grow, we meet new 'friends' in this book. Mira makes new allies that she can count on in a new world she only ever imaged in her dreams. There are more in the immortal category than she had ever thought possible. We meet a few of those, though two of them we learn what their specialty is. Stryker is a new character we come to know well. I wasn't sure I'd like him at first meeting. But, by the end of the book I loved him! He's strong, Alpha, but he's also smart and sees things are changing with the events around them.
We get our fighting, even though Mira is trying to get away from that. We also get some bonding time as friends. This is the best part. There is also a possibility of a budding romance? Maybe? I'm curious to see how this works out as there is a potential of two men for Mira. It's just starting to be seen, so I'm curious to see how it's handled in the future stories.
This book is complete. I'm not left disappointed with the ending. It's an ending that leads you right into the next book (which is out) but not hanging off the cliff at the abrupt ending. Well done! I love these endings, it's like a soft hook - you want to continue but you are left hanging on by your finger tips.
This is Liz, from Science Fiction and Such, and I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
When I come across a book that is part of a series, and I’m intrigued, I usually go right to the beginning of the series so I can experience the story in the context of the author’s original intent. As Complication was given to me as an ARC, in exchange for an honest review, I did not do this. I jumped right in, so I want to mention, up front, that in the case of Complication, I am clearly reviewing on book 2. You do need to go back and begin this series with Dissension.
Now, I quite loved how Mira, a vampire, clearly remembers and retains her basic human instincts, in a society that will not recognize her humanity. She feels so strongly that people be allowed to live the way they choose, and live safely, that she is willing to sacrifice herself. I like that.
Lucian is clearly out of his element. Once, basically nobility, he has found himself almost entirely dependent on Mira. While he doesn’t play a largely active role in Complication, it became very clear that Mira’s protective nature of him stems from a very large role in Dissension. I think he will take on a larger roll, again, in Ms. Salidas’ next installment.
We are introduced to Stryker, a werewolf or shifter. Now, he is an interesting character. He reminds me, in personality, with the Native American culture. He seems to have a peaceful inner-self and a sense of fairness that other characters don’t have. The fact he is another Otherkin and thus a possible romantic interest for Mira.
This plot was well written, but a bit confusing for me. I have to say this was because I did not read the first book. We jump right into the aftermath of the first book’s resolution and the entire plot is Mira’s journey to Sanctuary. The legendary safe haven for any refugee Otherkin. Mira must complete a quest to insure the safety of her friend's at Sanctuary. And that will bring us to book 3.
All in all, I want to go back and read Dissension, now. I want to know just how important Lucian is to Mira. I want to understand this post apocalyptic world. I also want to see humans and Otherkin work out their differences. I just feel like there are some things missing from book 2. There is very little by way of a backstory, and in my opinion, a book should always be able to stand alone. Also, I still don’t understand the relationship between Lucian and Mira. I get enough to know they are very important to each other, but I do not understand that importance. A couple of romance scenes, or almost romance scenes, or dreams, etc. could have fleshed this story out and helped me understand both the backstory and the character’s relationships. Maybe the first and third books will address this.
Complication sends us right back to where Dissension left us!
Mira and the 3 human companions have headed west towards the coast, in search of a place Mira isn't even sure exists. On their search for Sanctuary they run into a pack of wolf shifters. The alpha of this pack: Stryker certainly knows how to make an entrance: "Before she could finish her sentence a lone naked man appeared from behind some large boulders and walked unabashedly toward her." (location 358 kindle). Stryker tells Mira that indeed Sanctuary does exist and that it is the home of the Otherkin. Mira asks for sanctuary for her and her 3 companions. She is told that no humans are allowed near let alone into Sanctuary; Caldera Grove. Mira decides that she wants to plead her case to the Council of Caldera Grove, but to do this she must temporarily leave her 3 companions behind and follow Stryker into the heart of Caldera Grove.
Once there Mira has a decision to make. She must decide between her dreams of freedom and her companions who have risked everything to help her get this far. What will she choose??
I totally LOVED this book! Which is no surprise as I LOVED Dissension too.
This continued in the same manner and style as book 1, a gritty page turner. Mira is still being hunted by the humans from the Iron Gate.
The characters are growing and developing as the story unfolds.
Mira is still as ballsy as she was when we first meet her if not more so, in this instalment she seems to allow her personal boundaries to be pushed a little further. Mira appears to have a little more emotion breaking through her hard, bad-ass warrior exterior!
Lucian tries to be a little braver than he was in book 1. He doesn't appear to feature as much in this book and I'm still with holding my judgement of him for the time being. There were a couple of times in Complication when I felt that Lucian maybe harbouring some feelings for Mira.
And Stryker... Wow!!... What a man/wolf! What a way to make an entrance, he definitely made a lasting impression on me!! The mental image that my mind created from Katie's words... Yummy!!!
For me Katie has done it again, she has created and written another fantastic book which had me hooked from the synopsis. Once I begun reading the book I was pulled further and further into both Mira's mind and her world.
I can't wait for book 3!! :)
If your a fan of Katie's other books and a fan of vampire or shifter books then I strongly recommend Complication; but only AFTER you've read Dissension.
Complication for me was definitely a WHOOPING 5 STARS!!!!
Complication is the second book in the Chronicles of the Uprising. Mira and Lucien with their two human companions have escaped Iron City and from the Magistrate. The only place that Mira could think of going is Sanctuary. She doesn't know if this haven is real or just a myth.
When Mira encountered Stryker, a shifter, she found that Sanctuary does exist except that her human companions couldn't entered. Sanctuary is only for the supernatural beings and not for humans. For any humans to know its location and to entered Sanctuary meant death.
Mira has to make a choice to either go into Sanctuary or to remain with her human companions who have nowhere else to go.
With the new character, Stryker is quite a leader on fairness. He does things in a small way of allowing Mira to know the politics of Sanctuary. When new information comes up, he sees enough to present his case of the circumstances.
The title, Complication fits the story very well. Even though Mira, Lucien, and their two friends have escaped, they don't have really have anywhere to go. The Magistrate has sent the Elite soldiers to hunt them down. For Mira to go into Sanctuary, would mean her friends would ended up capture or maybe put to death. The only solution is to turned them but Mira wouldn't force that decision to her friends.
The ending is another cliff-hanger. Now the story is transitioning to going back against Mira's human masters. After all Mira has made some promises to her friend George.
The narrator, Kerri McCann delivers a very good performance in narration the story. Mira still has her sassyness. Lucien is still regal but yet humble at his circumstances.
I was given this audiobook by the author/narrator/publisher via Audiobook Blast in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated or influenced in any way in writing this review.
Now on the run from the Magistrate with three humans, Mira is heading to the one place she has always thought to be save…Sanctuary. Being tailed by the Magistrate isn’t easy and also dangerous, nearly making it out of a couple skirmishes the band of fugitives finally make it to Caldera Grove (Sanctuary). Caldera Grove is run my Stryker and the one place that can offer peace and normalcy to all Otherkins. Meet with hostatlity for her friends, Mira must make the choice…leave Sancturary or turn her friends into vampires. Will Mira turn them or will the Magistrate find them?
This book is a continuation from Dissension picking up where book 1 left off. After reading Dissension I was eager to find out where Mira would go next and if she would make it to Sanctuary and live the life that she so deserves. I was enthralled with Complications right from the beginning, holding my breath as the Magistrate approached the travelers until everything was “safe”. Loving the character development of her companions and their trust with vampires (they are all taught they are animals and will kill at first sight). The dynamic between the four individual is perfect, each balancing the others out. Their support for one another is magical (for lack of a better word) after only knowing Mira for a short time. The relationships of the four individuals grow as the story progresses. The author did a great job of telling the story and having the flow just right so you’re not bored but eager to keep reading to find out what happens next.
What a great adventure. I started reading and just couldn’t put it down. I was up all night, because I got so caught up in this book that time just slipped away. I find it all so intriguing. Katie Salidas has done a wonderful job on this vampire tale. I love the unexpected twist in Complication. At times I would think I had it all figured out and then I would be hit with something I didn’t expect. I just love how some of the characters can overcome generations of prejudice between their species to save the lives of the other. Mira is my favorite character. She stands for what she believes in and doesn’t back down, even though her mouth gets her into a world of trouble. She has spirit that can’t be broken. The description of the Sanctuary was amazing, so magical. I could see it all in my head and it is beautiful. I can’t wait to see what happens next, where this journey will take Mira from here. Now I’m even starting to wonder about a possible love interest in her life.
In Complication the Mira and her companions hit the road in search of a sanctuary, while battling to stay out of reach of their pursuers. Danger lies ahead and behind. What can they do to survive? Mira discovers the sanctuary at last. What she finds there is beyond what she could have ever imagined, but there is one problem. No human can know where it is and will be killed before they can enter. So she is left to decide where her loyalties lie. Can she leave her companions to die for a chance at the life she always believed she wanted?
•••I listened to the Audible Audio Edition of this book•••
I LOVE Mira! No matter who is performing her. I think Kerri does a passable job of taking over from the original narrator. I think her performance will only get better if she sticks with the series. Maybe I am spoiled. Every series I have listened to so far has kept the same narrator so it is probably that I just expected a different voice. I am sure she will grow on me :) I would be interested in other works by her. She is a good actress :)
This series must be listened to (or read) in order. The first book is Initiation. The second book is Dissension. This is the third book. I can't wait to listen to Revolution!
Mira has escaped the Iron Gate Prison and the City of New Haven with the help of her human friend Lucian. Along for the ride are the ageing Curtis and his devoted wife Sarah. They are, all four of them, the worse for wear. They are searching for the fabled Sanctuary where they hope to be accepted and safe from the reach of the evil Magistrate and his corrupt human forces. Does Sanctuary truly exist outside of stories? Will they be able to find it? Will they be accepted if they do? Or will they be turned away? Or worse yet... Killed?
***This series is suitable for mature young adult through adult readers who enjoy post postapocalyptal dystopian supernatural fantasy horror with plenty of action, mystery, intrigue, and adventure with a dash of romance :)
WOW In the second part of The Chronicles of the Uprising. We continue right where Dissension leaves off with Mira, Lucian, Curtis and Sarah on the run and looking for Sanctuary. Mira always believed Sanctuary to be a myth that is until she meets Stryker a wolf shifter, but is Sanctuary going to be the safe harbor she is hoping for is it to good to be true. With a Battle brewing Mira must convince the others that her human companions are not like the other humans from The Iron Gate City. Mira a warrior vampire just wants peace and freedom must face a battle to prove that her kind are not all as bloodthirsty savages the humans seem to believe. K.A. Salidas has done it again created amazing characters and a world that you will love to explore. Her description is amazing and will keep you glued as you watch Mira and her group of friends and allies travel through this post apocalyptic world where the humans are are the ones to be feared and not the vampires. I highly RECOMMEND this read to any and all Lovers OF VAMPIRES AND DYSTOPIANS. This is a unique and awesome fast paced read. 4.5 Stars

This was an excellent follow-up to book number one!
We join Mira and her friends in the wilderness as they find the way to Sanctuary. We find that she and Lucian are still on rough terms and then enter in Striker! Talk about a monkey wrench...
Striker is a wolf and he is other kin and Mira is taken aback! There are struggles to find a new balance between her human friends and her supernatural family. When she finds that she has no place in either land, she's got to make a tough decision when the humans come looking she really has a hard time deciding what the right thing is to do especially when people are manipulating her mind.
Once Mira figures out what she really wants to do in her spirit, she sets out to do it and come hell or high water she will make sure that it happens!
Salidas has written an excellent follow-up to book one I very excited to see what happens with Mira and her friends and all of her new family. Especially to see how Mira reacts to all of the new feelings that she has now that she's no longer trapped but fighting for her freedom to stay intact.
Due to physical violence suggested for mature readers.
After escape with the humans that helped her, searching for the Sanctuary was the goal. But was it real or a mere myth? Mira and her companions had to face new challenges to stay alive. Still struggling with her dark emotions for the humans who had slaved her, she had to take decisions about the humans who helped her. Not an easy task when she was so close to get a new life. Now, there was people who care about her and new possibilities that were playing a role in her life. She needed to secure that those under her protection were safe. Exciting and fast paced story with lot of action, detailed and interesting narrations, suspense, intrigue, mystery and magic. Mira, the fierce and skillful vampire warrior, displayed more human emotions, Lucian looked stronger and possessive with Mira and Stryker’s characters added a new dimension to Mira’s life. Liked the variety of secondary characters and the skills they had. The story continues and looks like there is something huge waiting for the protagonists in the next book. Love these stories that had so much action and issues to think about. I enjoyed this story that kept me interested until the end so, I would look for the next one.
After reading the first book in this series, I couldn't wait for this one. Mira and her group of 3 humans have escaped the city. Now finding the Sanctuary that she has always dreamed of, and honestly isn't sure really exists, is the goal. They travel and encounter a pack of shifters who patrol the perimiter to keep Sanctuary safe. Humans are forbidden to enter and Mira has to go in alone to plead for herself and them, but what will the price demanded be? We find Mira to be a kick butt vampire in the first book, but she shows to be more than just a gladiator in this book. She negotiates, meets a hot wolf shifter, and still manages to go toe-to-toe with the powers in Sanctuary. The fact that the sanctuary she dreamed of was real the whole time and is just that (at least in appearance), made me happy. I didn't like the way they treated her human companions but I did like that she never gave up on them. It was an absolute 5/5 for me. I love Mira and can't wait to see where the story goes from here.
