Sophie Mouse discovers a giant paw print in Pine Needle Grove—and follows it right into a bear’s den—in the ninth charming book of The Adventures of Sophie Mouse series! While Sophie and her friends are exploring Sassafras Alley, they come across a huge paw print. They have seen paw prints before, but they’ve never seen one this big! What sort of animal could have made such a giant paw print? As the friends go on an adventure to find out, they are in for a great, big surprise! With easy-to-read language and illustrations on almost every page, the Adventures of Sophie Mouse chapter books are perfect for beginning readers.
Poppy Green can talk to animals! Unfortunately, they never talk back to her. So she started writing in order to imagine what they might say and do when humans aren’t watching. Poppy lives on the edge of the woods in Connecticut, where her backyard is often a playground for all kinds of wildlife: birds, rabbits, squirrels, voles, skunks, deer, and the occasional wild turkey.
Another winner in the delightful Sophie Mouse series.Nothing too scary here despite the "great big paw print" although my youngest was a little nervous about who the big animal might be. Takes place in autumn and talks about hibernation. This one has a mystery so it's fun for young readers to play along. (Love the way the "bear claw" pastry comes back into play.) My kids are eating these up -- although, we may be reading too many of these in a row because my youngest i s now telling me he wishes I ran a bakery like Mrs. Mouse does, LOL ;-)
3.5 stars. This was cute but so similar to the last book. The kids see some paw prints and are scared but then find a little bear cub who needs help finding his home before its time to hibernate. Cute book!
The Great Big Paw Print (The Adventures of Sophie Mouse Book 9) by Poppy Green The Great Big Paw Print The Great Big Paw Print was a great book from the beginning to the end. My favorite character was Sophie Mouse because she's so adventurous and she loved helping her little brother so much. It was such a fun surprise to find out who the paw prints belonged to in this story. I started picking up on the clues as I read more of the story so I thought that I knew but I still liked the way it was revealed at the end. The character revealed had to go back and retrace their steps and make things right with the other characters. I wouldn't change anything about this story. This is such a detailed book with pretty drawings and many new challenging words that I had not read yet in a book. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a mystery!
Green, Poppy The Great Big Paw Print (The Adventures of Sophie Mouse #9), illustrated by Jennifer A. Bell. CHAPTER BOOK. Little Simon (Simon & Schuster), 2016. $6. 9781481471480
Someone has been stealing food and destroying buildings near Forget-Me-Not Lake. Who would do such a thing? Sophie and her friends are determined to find out, and the paw print they've just found might be a big hint.
This is a cute and fun addition to the Sophie Mouse series. The mystery has an abundance of clues to make the culprit obvious for older readers, but younger ones will likely enjoy solving the plot puzzle along with Sophie. Due to the references to previous volumes in the series, this book works better when read after the first eight.
My 6yo: I loved the bear! I loved how they made friends. It wasn't really the bear's fault because he was soooo hungry because he was hibernating and that's what bakeries are for, but it wasn't so nice to take it without asking. It was a really good book like all of them.
Mom: A super sweet Sophie Mouse story 💜 I loved how patient and understanding the friends were with their hungry hedgehog friend. Then once they found the lost bear, I loved how he was determined to make things right before he went home and everyone forgave him so kindly. Maybe one of my favorites. 💜
In this ninth adventure starring little Sophie Mouse and her forest friends there is a mystery to be solved. It is the start of winter and all around town food is disappearing. Apples go missing from school, a cake disappears from the library and someone breaks into Sophie’s parent’s bakery. Sophie and her friends decide to visit their friend Poppy the hedgehog before she settles in for hibernation. The friends come across some very big paw prints and are soon on the trail of the thief. The plentiful pencil illustrations help break up the text for readers while adding to the plot and characters. This is another sweet tale with a dash of mystery for beginning chapter book readers.
