While this was by no means a literary masterpiece, I did enjoy it nonetheless. It was a quick, fun read that didn't require me to think much. And I'm always a sucker for a highlander/time travel romance! I would have liked to have known more about how the time travel worked, there was little to no explanation about it and it left me wanting more. It also kind of bothered me how Katriona was so nonchalant about being thrown hundreds of years back in time. She seemed to have no reaction to it and it was just strange. Despite this I did enjoy the story, I just thought it could have been so much more!

Highlanders, love and time travel....perfect!

Another successful book in a wonderful series. The thing I love about a Jennae Vale series....well many things actually....they give you the chance to watch familiar characters appear throughout the books ,magical and otherwise, and as the castles , lands and legends get weaved into the stories you feel as if you've taken a mystical vacation. This book had good character development with just enough background on the reappearing villain that it could be read as a stand alone. Very romantic without too much high schoolish redundancy and well written but short love scenes. A simple happy feeling quick read I look forward to from this author.

Interesting book. I love Nick and his family. their interactions are full of snark, love and fun. they are so loyal to one another and the love they have for one another shines through. So does their respect for each other.

I said interesting because I like the book even enjoyed the story I just had a little bit of a hard time when interpreting what they were saying due to the dialect being true to form for that time frame and place. this doesn’t detract from the story just makes it take a litlle longer to grasp things that’s all.

Nick was so amazing. He was from the past but was in the future and than suddenly was home again. He was strong, honest and a good gentle man. He was a true alpha man but he did respect the women around him and listen to their wants, needs and advice. When he meets Kat he wasn’t looking for anything just wanting to go home. the attraction is immediate for him and she intrigues him. He saw a strong willed woman he told him what he thought and that excited him. From the moment he sees her, he is helping her and falling in love. As he got to know her his love deepened and his desire to keep her in his life was strong.

Kat was one that takes time to get to know due to what she was going through. She was a smart good kind character but very wary and feeling lost at first. Kat was from the future and stuck in time or is she? I always wondered that because it seemed odd that she suddenly ended up back in time at the same moment that Nick came back. She was smart but after her ordeal didn’t trust men much. Couldn’t blame her. That is until Nick. here we see Kat transform into a feisty woman when needed. She gains strength and confidence from Nick’s steadfastness and kindness. He doesn’t try to take advantage and this helps her gain trust. He also defends her when it is necessary.

As their story progresses we get a twisted tale where the past before now collides with the future and the now present in the book. We see a woman find out who she is and why she is in the woods in the highlands. We see a man be thwarted in taking her back, a evil plot unraveled and the evil lose. We see two people fall in love and one fear losing the other. We get so many stories delicately intertwine together that you never have a dull moment and are always wondering what next. The writing and plots draw you in and keep you intrigued and trying to figure out what is happening. How did Kat get there and why? Will Nick lose his one love or will she stay? So many questions come to your mind you don’t want to put the book down until you know the answers.

Nick will have you swoon and smile as he falls in love, helps the damsel in distress and see to her HEA in a sweet, swoony and sensual way. A story of magic, mystery, good triumphing over evil and love winning out. I hope we get more books of the Mackall clan for they were a fun boisterous group that draws you in.

Enjoyable

This was a good story about secrets, hateful people, overcoming the bad things and finally finding love and happiness and a few other things. A continuation of this story will be expected.

Highlander

My passion is for books that have strong characters and I wasn't disappointed in this book. The plot was good and the story moved quickly. There were some areas I would love to see described more in detail. Overall it is a good read.

What would you do if you find out your life has been about lies and half truths?
Kat is running for her life, she doesn't understand why she was thrown into the past, just to be mistreated, just like she was as a child. At least that's how she remembers it.
She stabs' her husband to just get in the clutches of a man who says he will not harm her. But how can she believe him, everyone lies to her.

Nick will do whatever it takes to protect Kat, he will do whatever it takes to have her want to stay with him. He is a man of honor and a Laird, so his word means everything to him. He misses his family and can't wait till he sees them, it's been too long.

Lots of mystery involved in this one, and yes there are fairies too.

I really enjoyed it.

Time travel…Oh yes!
When Katrina finds an emerald gem she picked up on an archeological site, she is thrown into a situation that she is not sure what is happening. She isn’t sure who she can trust.
Nick is a 17th century Highlander that gets snagged by mistake and sent to 21 century San Francisco. He has almost given up getting back to his home after being stuck for 2 yrs.
Edna to the rescue! The story brings together the Thistle and Hives characters and we meet new ones too.
If you love time travel, don’t miss any of Jennae Vale’s Thistle and Hives series and the new ones, The Mackalls of Dunnet Head!

Kat having just arrived in 16th century Scotland, is forced to marry a vile man whom she stabs on their wedding night and then runs away. Nick has just returned to 16th century Scotland after living for two years in 20th century San Francisco. Malcolm is Kat's sociopathic boss who traveled Nick's time stream in search of the Twin Sword that will give him unbelievable power.

To acquire the sword, Malcolm must find an emerald and only Kat can help him. She is under the protection of Nick and his clan. This story has more twists than a crooked road and I dare you to keep up with each new turn of events.

THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER RATED 5 STARS!

Wonderful, fun, sad, drama, adventurous and romantic. Well developed characters. You felt and saw everything in your mind and body. I only had one tiny editing error. That's when Aleck was packing to go home and the name Nick was there. Threw me for a second. Went back to reread and said oops. Completely forgivable. I look forward to buying more or her books.

Kind of enjoyed it, but wouldn't recommend it...
For starters, the title of this book is a misnomer; it should be called Her Dopey Highlander. The hero allowed the villains (there are 2 in this story) to snatch the heroine at least THREE TIMES! How any woman could ever feel safe with such a doofus protecting her is beyond me! lol

Captivating Story 5+*

A tale that should not be missed. With Nick returning from being taken to the 21st century and Kat mysteriously being transported back in time only to meet up with Nick by chance. This adventure will definitely have you wanting more. Just about the time you think the end is near, you will discover added intrigue. Totally loved it.

Her Trusted Highlander

While a time travel it didn't have all the confusion of someone trying to fit into a different time period. Great characters, plenty of romance and some action.

Really good book

I am terrible at reviews, but I can say that this story kept me on my toes. I was so afraid of something bad happening again, and again. I love the way Jennae vale tells her stories. I look forward to all her books.

A sweet nice historical fictional romance adventure!

As the huge title says it all. The story of Kat - Katriona- and Nick - Nicholas- is a full one. Full of adventures, fortune and misfortune, action, and mystery.
Nice and easy reading.

Lovely read

Fast paced, easy plot to follow, which is often not so on time travel stories. I kept feeling there was an earlier part of the story I had missed. So I will go back and check, but this was a good read!

Finding one place

A very interesting story about a woman who goes back in time and finds trouble and the love of her life. I give this story a four star rating because of this story, I think it would be something to go back in time to see what I was back then.

Although I quite liked this book. I did feel that the hero lacked some strength in his manner and although he said he would always protect the heroine, he didn't manage to do this twice in a rather silly way really. I felt that the storyline sounded really good and a lot of exciting things could have been done with this but it just didn't happen.

Very good book

I really am enjoying this series . Ms. Vale knows how to weave an intricate story. Each is a standalone novel; but, we hear of past characters from previous bookd.

Great

I've read this book before when it first came out and was in the mood to read it again. Kat and Nick were great together and I love all the Thistle and Hive books. This was one gave a different spin on time travel, instead of the bridge sending them this one was about an object .

Book Review originally published here: http://www.iheartreading.net/book-tou...

In Her Trusted Highlander, Katriona Hughes stumbles into 16th century Scotland after picking up an emerald gem on an archeological site. Although she wants nothing more than to return to the present time, she rapidly gets stuck in the past – the first person she meets tricks her and forces her into marriage with a stranger. Kat has to run for her life, and in doing so, meets one man she can trust: Nick Mackall.

Nick is happy to be back in Scotland after being transported to the twnety-first century and spending two years there. He longs to go home to his family but when he meets a young woman who came from the era he just escaped from, he decides to help her. In doing so, he’ll need to face an old foe who has returned from the dead.

I liked the double time travel – with Nick travelling from the present to the past but originally being from the past, and Katriona travelling from the present to the past and originally being from the present. It was a cool addition (usually there’s only one person doing the time travelling!). This made it easier for Nick to relate to Katriona and visa versa. The key focus on trust was great too, and Nick really showed that Kat could trust him.

The book isn’t just historical – it also has an element of the paranormal, and I really enjoyed that. As usual, Jennae Vale succeeds in bringing realistic characters and describing the setting so wonderfully the reader can just imagine being there. Recommended to anyone who enjoys historical romance with some magic and/or time travel.

This story has it all: time travel, sexy Scottish Lairds and castles, evil Sorcerers, magic treasure, an Elfin Queen, archeological digs, and of course a damsel in distress. There was so much packed into this story that it was a bit difficult to keep all the storylines straight. There is a backstory here, but since this the first book in the series, the previous story that led up to this book was somewhat vague at times. The author attempted to bring in some of the backstory, but it wasn't enough, in my opinion, to keep the reader from becoming confused.

The dialogue was stiff, stilted and extraneous at times, but wasn't because the author was attempting to clarify the backstory, it simply was between characters and used to extend the story, or so it seemed to me. The Scottish brogue was well done in the dialogue, but was also used outside of that periodically which made the reading confusing at times.

If you enjoy historical romances, then this book is for you, because there certainly is that included in the story as well.

This book was provided by the author for my honest review.
