Uncharted: The Journey Through Uncertainty to Infinite Possibility

Rate this book
Where are we going? How will we get there? In a world of uncertainty, most of us don’t really know. Our challenge is to sail into uncharted waters—away from the familiar ways that don’t work anymore—to discover ourselves and the infinite potential for our lives. It’s in these as-yet-undiscovered places within us that we come to recognize what we can be and what we can co-create with Spirit.

If we try to create guided only by the old, familiar map of our lives, what we create won’t be authentic to who we are becoming; we’ll just be doing the same thing over and over. As intuitive counselor and “spiritual cartographer” Colette Baron-Reid explains, we need a different kind of map—not one that tells us where we’ve been, but one we fill in as each new experience changes us into who we need to be to live our destiny. This new map is a map of the soul.

In Uncharted, you’ll learn to draw your own map of the soul as Colette guides you on an inward journey through five interconnected realms. First you’ll get oriented in the Realm of Spirit, your “home” that connects the other four. Then you will do the work of self-evolution and co-creation in the Realms of Mind, Light, Energy, and Form.

In the Realm of Mind, you experience your consciousness intermingled with that of all Consciousness. In the Realm of Light, you illuminate the darkness and experience transformation as you reclaim lost parts of yourself. In the Realm of Energy, you consciously direct the forces influencing you. In the Realm of Form, you see the results of your self-evolution manifested in the material world. At every step, you learn to harness your personal power and turn fear into possibility as you venture into the undiscovered places where magic happens.

In Uncharted, Colette Baron-Reid guides the reader with journaling, visualization, personal stories, and meditation exercises through unexplored realms of the spirit as a method for greater self knowing and actualization. I enjoyed this book, but it felt a bit all over the place. Let me explain what I mean by examining some of the many subjects discussed:

In the introduction, Colette begins by giving some background information into what's been going on with her for the past couple of years. One of those big changes is that she is now channeling an group of beings, whereas, prior to this, she wasn't. In this passage, she's talking about the entity helping her to write Uncharted: "It's like "they" had the puzzle pieces, and when I was ready for them, they dropped them down on the page for me to discover. I'm not realizing that this is, in essence, what channeling an "entity" is. It's something I never quite understood, and I'm afraid I didn't respect its power as I should have. So I hereby surrender my inner critical cynic who doubted others when they shared their channeling stories. I get it now." loc 55, ebook. She calls this/these entities, Fred. Throughout the book, Fred pops up and shares a message or clarifies something. I felt as if the channeled messages could have composed a whole other book in addition to this one. Plus, it's clear that she's still honing her ability to talk and understand to this inner knowing. Anyway, it "muddied the waters," so to speak, of Uncharted from nearly the first page.

Colette doesn't think much of the ego or what she calls the "small self": "When you view the world through the limits of your small self, you see only the separated parts of the material world. You are guided by your personal narratives that tell you who you are based on your past experience, ambitions, and goals that were set within the Realm of Form. You're oblivious to being part of one big matrix of interconnectedness. You forget where home is, and you feel lost." loc 634, ebook. I've read all sorts of different teachings about the ego, but I've started to lean towards Abraham Hick's thoughts on the matter. They teach that the ego is the lens through which the divine within you perceives reality and that our desires are breadcrumbs along the path to eternal joy if we allow ourselves to realize them. Hicks also says that (paraphrasing): "If you only remembered how much you wanted to be in these bodies, you wouldn't be so quick to fault yourself and your desires. You are the leading edge of thought- you take spirit beyond which it has ever been before." In my mind, that is the function of ego: to express our unique personality. Isn't the desire to be free of ego also a desire driven by the ego?

I did like Colette's definition of co-creation, which is one I'd never heard before: "Here's how it works between you and Spirit. You, as an individual, are always cocreating. The divine creative force is always there with you, along with spirits and allies who enthusiastically join in as you co-create reality. And you are never alone." loc 712, ebook. Encouraging, I think.

I also liked the lesson on fate, our internal "stories" and the subconscious mind: "Listen, it's not fun to admit that while your story about yourself has been influenced by other people and things that just seemed to happen "to" you, it was also co-written by you personally to a large degree. Fate played a role, to be sure, but you can take much greater control over your "fate." As Carl Jung is supposed to have said, "Whatever is not brought from the unconscious into the awareness seemingly comes to us as fate." loc 1568, ebook.

The fact that shadow dwells hand in hand with light is something that I've learned through my own meditation practice. Here's what Colette has to say about it: "In the Realm of Light, we recognize that light always exists in duality with a shadow- there's no avoiding it. There is always a dark side to everything, a contrast between what is nourishing and loving and what is draining and entangled in fear, anger, or hatred. Those emotions will always exist, but they don't have to overwhelm you or scare you away from the process of co-creation and transformation." loc 1892, ebook. I believe that is true.

As for the movement through Colette's "realms", it reminded me of shamanistic work by Robert Moss. I'm not sure about the order in which she explores things (seems like every teacher has a different way to do it), but I think that, if your intention is greater self knowledge and if you practice what Colette teaches, you will find it. In fact, if you try just a fraction of what she suggests in Uncharted, you will learn something about yourself. She gives plenty of exercises to attempt in here if one particular method doesn't speak to you.

Recommended mainly for the New Age enthusiasts because of the subject matter, methods, and channeled material, but also for anyone who is curious about finding and embodying one's authentic power. Some similar reads: Thank & Grow Rich: A 30-Day Experiment in Shameless Gratitude and Unabashed Joy by Pam Grout, Ask and It Is Given: Learning to Manifest Your Desires by Esther Hicks, and Active Dreaming: Journeying Beyond Self-Limitation to a Life of Wild Freedom by Robert Moss.

A big thank you to Hay House and NetGalley for a free digital copy of this book!

I've been listening to Colette Baron Reid's insights for a while, I often use her wisdom cards online and follow her YouTube channel where she does a weekly forecast of the energies, something she calls a 'prescription' for thinking about and working with our thoughts, feelings and beliefs as they encounter the energy that presents itself. She's down to earth, has a sense of humour and doesn't take herself too seriously.

She's continuously learning and sharing her insights and admits to having regular bouts of 'spiritual narcolepsy', her term for knowing what it is you should be doing to stay in equilibrium in your life, but falling asleep at the wheel.
"when you temporarily fall prey to fear or subconscious triggers that cause you to forget that you have a co-creative partnership with spirit, that you are in fact, a part of spirit. You forget that the material world is not the primary reality and start to look at outer conditions as a way to orient yourself, instead of tuning within to get where you're at."

So I was intrigued to read her book and pre-ordered it back in Sept 2016, which then gave us access to an incredible gift of 'real and raw' conversations she had with people whose work she admires like Gregg Braden, Joe Dispenza, Anita Moorjani, Dr. Cristiane Northrup and others. Those conversations provide an excellent pre-text for reading the book, because we understand more thoroughly where she is coming from and where is currently at in her own evolution on the path of co-creation with spirit.

Uncharted isn't as easy to absorb as those conversations are, because it forces the reader to participate and consider things while reading, whether you wish to or not. It's a book you'll want to reread, it's a way of looking at reality and preparing for the unknown in front of us, or the "uncharted" as she calls it.

Many people approach the unknown with fear, others with anticipation, regardless, Colette offers a process of approaching that uncharted, unknown future reality, with more calm and greater confidence, through developing a relationship with spirit - by learning how to "co-create" with spirit.

This process takes the reader through five realms of co-creation, the realm of spirit, of mind, of light, of energy and form. She talks about how mostly with our five sense, we spend most of our time and energy in that last realm of form, of action, of intellect, of making things happen. Co-creation takes a step back and considers another of doing things, and of developing what some refer to as the sixth sense, but which she refers to as the first sense, intuition.
Intuition is an inherent primary skill, our first sense, and a gift from the Realm of Spirit that we discover and use in the Realm of mind to access insights, information and energy the intellectual part of the mind can't conceive.

It's a consciousness raising view of reality and one that will resonate with enlightened readers, empaths, those familiar with working with energies and the open-minded.

If you want to learn how to tame your dragons, this is a great place to start.

Highly Recommended!

I have to admit that I struggled at times, doing the exercises. I had to leave it and come back later. It is a very interesting book and it helped me having the Uncharted Facebook group to connect with. There is a lot of information to be processed and absorbed. It is definitely a book that needs to be re-read over and over again as we evolve and move forward. The rating that I give it today will probably change as I change.

This potentially life-changing book is deep and insightful but written in an accessible way, with warmth and humour.

As well as thorough text, Uncharted is packed with practical exercises including meditation and journaling. After purchase, you can sign up (via the website) to access a dedicated facebook group too. The group includes a few thousand others who are also working through Uncharted - plus further resources such as printable pages and meditations from Colette Baron-Reid, which accompany the text. (The 'get on your bird' meditation is much more powerful when you can listen to it, than reading it yourself.)

Before I read this book, I was interested in personal growth but without the things I considered "too woo". I didn't know who the author was, or that she was a TV-psychic as well as a counsellor (honestly, that might have even put me off). Since reading the book I opened my eyes and mind, in many ways - "We are spiritual beings constrained by our human experience, defined at this time in history by a distorted lens of perception and perspective, in a state of spiritual amnesia and asleep at the wheel of life". I know this to be true, but the book has really helped me to understand what it means, and the importance of 'waking up' and being authentic. It seems more relevant now than ever.

Uncharted follows on from the author's previous book 'The Map', and although they each stand alone, I went back and bought The Map too - that added further depth to my understanding, but it would be perfectly possible to read Uncharted, and to greatly benefit from it, without knowing the author's other work. Both are books that can be picked up and dabbled in, long after reading from cover to cover.

Note: I read a review copy this book via NetGalley. I have since gone on to purchase various other works from the same author.

I found many of the lessons and stories to be very insightful. I truly appreciated the summary at the end of each chapter that helped you remember and articulate the messages from the chapters. It was a great checklist of checking that you were able to integrate some of the messages and ideas that were being presented.

Colette does an amazing job of sharing her life stories to help the reader have a deeper understanding of each lesson and insight she's trying to provide. Weather you are suffering or recovering from an addiction, habit, or just wanting to push through to make a positive change this book really reminds you that the shift comes from you.

Whatever the shift is that you need, this book can help you realize the energies you are manifesting in your life that do not contribute with your desires and how to make changes that will get you where you want to be. I think this book does quite well with delivering the messages it suggests from the title and cover.

I follow Colette. Have for a while. She has an uplifting and delightful voice and personality. A good source of advice to overcome past life experiences gone wrong to learning and using these experiences to manifest infinite possibilities!!!! I also have the paper book of this. Good to have both so you can go back and highlight areas to refer back to quickly. Would recommend this book to all. It would be a good book for our youth today to see that if you are experiencing difficulties to see that it is up to you to co-create a new outlook. And to look at the life experiences as teachings. Step back and ask yourself: What is this experience trying to show me?

One of those self help books which are going to leave you feeling better and with a knowing you are going to find your own way through the uncharted realm of spirituality and your own connection with spirit. The author shows us through very practical and down to earth example how she is able to integrate spirituality into her every day life. However, if you cannot stand new age spirituality at all, then don‘t read this book.

Collette Baron-Reid does an amazing job at delivering messages in bite-sized pieces to help the reader connect to the journey of the book. She provides vulnerability through sharing her own personal stories throughout, which keeps the journey grounded in humanity. Reading this book during a pandemic and in the midst of uprising REALLY helped me to stay grounded and connected. I definitely feel like it gave me some tools to work with.

There is work to do, and that the work is doable though not without suffering. trying to bring together three schools of thought, which is not an easy thing to do. It is written with humor, genuineness and warmth and really shows you how to live life and not just drag ourselves along in fear of all the unknowns that we all face. Bold on the one hand, but also humbly she reminds us at every turn that we are taking this journey together, that we must be compassionate and brave.

Another incredible novel by Colette Baron-Reid with great depth of knowledge on this Journey we call life. With Fred we gain some insight on how to manoeuvre through times where we face uncertainty and how we can use the Spirit Realm to navigate and learn about the 5 realms of co-creation.

Any person who is a fan of Colette will enjoy this novel.

Colette gets a 5/5 as a human and an author, but the book wasn’t anything out of the ordinary (as in, I read a lot of these types of books). Great message and very helpful for readers who are learning to understand the nuances of life, embracing themselves and following their intuition.

I would rate this at a 3½ rather than just a 3.

I am a fan of Colette Baron-Reid: I follow her on twitter and FB, and listen to her videos from time to time, and regularly visit her website. I also have several sets of her cards, the Oracle Map cards being my favourite, so I wanted to give this book a 5 star rating, but I just couldn't. I didn't even feel it warranted a 4.

Maybe I am just too well-read in the self-help and personal development genre, and maybe for someone new to a lot of things that Colette is trying to impart it would come across differently, but I found this book chaotic.

Colette is trying to bring together three schools of thought, which is not an easy thing to do. One of psychic awareness, one of personal development, and one of how science actually plays a part in both of these. She didn't fail in doing any of that, but she was overly wordy about it, and I felt there was a lot of 'padding' to this book, which I feel was a marketing tool more than anything. There was continued reference to her first book 'The Map' (which I haven't read) and also to her personal creation the 'Invision Process' which is a course Colette has developed and runs through Hay House Publishing (as I understand it).

There was also repetition in her own personal story about finding her true path into being a psychic after doing a television show (another plug). She hinted at other elements to her personal story and events that happened to her at the age of 19, but it was clear she was not comfortable talking about these, even though they would have added to the personal development she was encouraging the reader to undertake, and given it more depth.

I also felt that at the beginning, when Colette defined her spiritual world, she described it in a way that it was a fact and the same for everyone, whereas I was not convinced about that; it can be very individual, and spirit manifests in different ways for different people. Readers could worry they are doing something wrong if they don't experience things the way Colette does. She had a lot of her own terminology for that, which thankfully, she did provide a legend for, but I felt it made it more complicated and chaotic - although I liked the term 'small self' for the ego. I felt the entire book could have been structured better.

What I did like about the book was that at the end of each part/chapter there was a section called 'Traveller's Notes' which basically gave a break down of that chapter and the main points that had just been covered, so you could clarify what that chapter had been about, which was useful as often a lot got lost in tangents and over description. And Colette also provided some excellent exercises for the reader to do, to learn about themselves and find their own way to a calm state of mind and allow themselves to listen more closely to their soul.

I will definitely use and reference this book in the future for the exercises and even Traveller's Notes. But I would be careful who I recommended it to.

Such an amazing read!

This my second time reading this book. I love it so much and felt called to pick it up again as I was experiencing uncertainty and delving into uncharted waters. Colette's words were soothing to my soul and helped me to see what I'm experiencing is all part of Spirit's plan. I cannot revert back to doing what I did if I want the different life I feel called to live. Thank you for this amazing book, Colette.

It was an amazing read. I loved the exercises, so much in fact now that I have borrowed it from the library and read it..... I ordered my own copy to have on hand. I love the way that she writes. It was interesting how she talked about the interconnected 5 realms, and our work to put them together and not try to leap forward. It was a great read!!!
