My only real disappointment with this book is that there's only two large quilts; the rest are smaller sewing projects. But the colors are cheerful and inspiring and I love looking at Japanese design in general and Japanese-style quilts in particular, so I'm not complaining (much).

30 patchwork, sewing, and quilting projects from Atsuko Matsuyama, translated into English. The book is full of delightful color photos that make every project look adorable, and it's hard not to put every one of them on your project list. The reality is that the book is poorly organized, and in trying to find instructions to match the project, you will be jumping all around the book. Heaven forbid you need an applique or a template from the insert, because nothing is marked or in order there. I started the Happy Flower Quilt as part of an online quilt along group, but two things prevented me from getting very far. First was the organization/layout of the book. Second was my applique ability, as the quilt had a lot of applique blocks with a good deal of detail, and as with many projects in this book, my skill level is not up to the level necessary for a quilt like this. This would be a good book for someone with a lot of time on their hands who has some really good sewing, embroidery, and quilting skills under their belt. It's not a good book for beginners. The projects look so tempting, but result in a lot of frustration.

This is a book filled with gorgeous and pretty designs.

Sewing projects include quilts, bags and a lot more to keep or give a stunning gifts.

The instructions are simple to follow and each one comes with a very concise visual image of each step.

The full sized templates come on double sided sheets, so will need to be copied onto pattern paper, but this ensures that the original stay pristine for future use.

Each of the designs in this book are made using the most gorgeous fabric,  the techniques are fully explained and with applique and quilting they can embellished to personalise your make.

There are 30 projects for all seasons, and each one comes with a small picture of the finished design for reference.

A perfect book for all sewing levels and the use of fabric scraps is very cost effective.

I always enjoy crafting books with lots of lovely photos like this one. Even if you don't make any of the projects, you'll enjoy thumbing through the pages.
