New from bestselling author Ellie Danes, Crossed Hearts
Kate is a fiery, independent redhead who just finished grad school; Ian is the quick-witted, successful head of his late father's medical research firm. A forgotten wallet, a chance meeting, and an undeniable attraction pull them together, heating up a frigid New York winter.
But Ian's company is in trouble, and Kate's sister is nothing but trouble, and their lives seem to conspire to keep them away from each other. And just as it seems like the future may be as bright as a New York spring, family troubles threaten Kate's world.
Can Ian and Kate overcome the problems they're facing in their lives enough to move forward together? And will getting to know one other better be the final factor that will tear them apart?
Ian Cross is CEO of Medical Technology Specialists Incorporated or MTS Inc after his father passed away. One thing he was thrown into off the bat was a lawsuit with another biomedical research firm, BioResearch Labs which was costing both companies loads of money everyday this suit didn't get settled. Ian enjoyed his caffeine fix and stopped by a Starbucks practically everyday on his way to work. On this one particular morning, he forgets his wallet and this beautiful red head buys his coffee. He doesn't get the chance to ask her for her name but as fate would have it, they run into each other at the coffee shop the very next day.
Kate just graduated with her Master's and is looking forward to moving to San Diego to be a special education teacher. She picked this career path because of her sister Claire. This is where the book became pretty emotional for me. You see Claire has an illness or disability that centers around depression. She likes to cut herself and at one point, she cuts herself so much, she ends up in the hospital on suicide watch. Kate and Claire's mom couldn't deal with this illness and left when Claire was young. Their dad doesn't have much to do with them either unless it is with yelling....either disappointed Kate didn't follow in the family business and he thinks Claire is just doing all this craziness for attention which he doesn't intend to feed.
Through it all, Ian and Kate have this connection that is developing each time the run into each other. If ever there was true love at first site, it would definitely be with this couple. Somehow, their story reminds me of the movie "Serendipity" and that in the end they will have their HEA......as long as Ian doesn't find out Kate's last name. Received an ARC for an honest review.
This review is from: Crossed Hearts Vol. 1 (The Forbidden Love Series, Vol. 1): Alpha Billionaire Romance (Kindle Edition) "Crossed Hearts" is the first full length novel series written by Ellie Danes and I'm expecting a really great read with many twists and turns and "oh no" moments...and that's exactly what she gives us in the first book. A frigid cold morning in NYC and Ian Cross finds himself in need of coffee while on his way to the office, so he stops in to the nearest Starbucks. Meanwhile, Kate finds herself in yet another argument with her father and needs to get out of the house and just happens to enter the same Starbucks. The very handsome Ian has forgotten his wallet and the customers in line behind them are starting to get angry so Kate buys his coffee for him, just to keep the line moving. Kate has a younger sister, Claire, with learning disabilities and mental issues, who is seemingly always getting in trouble but their father doesn't want to coddle Claire and make things worse so he essentially either ignores or fights with her constantly. I can see where the plot is unfolding and I'm curious if Ms. Danes is going to take it in a different direction? And I'm curious if we will get the HEA at the end? Another book well done and I can't wait for book 2.
Another brilliant book from Ellie, this follows Kate and Ian. A chance meeting in the coffee shop and Ian can't stop thinking of Kate, his business is under a huge amount of pressure with a law suit against another bio research lab and his mind is on the red head, his focus shud not be wondering right now. Kate living back with her father as a stop gap before she goes off to be a teacher for troubled kids, her sister Claire is a troubled teenager and she seems to be the only one who cares. Her father has stopped paying for Claire's schools and pretty much left Kate to worry about her little sister. Her mind is else where thinking about Ian when Claire ends up in hospital..... With there father no where in sight Kate is once again left to look after Claire that is until Ian turns up, his warmth and understanding is just what Kate needs as her father seems all to busy with work to even turn up. Ian spots Michael Murphy thumping through the accident department, thinking he's followed Ian to pressure him into dropping the law suit Ian does his best to avoid him....would he really stoop so low to follow Ian there? Could he be visiting someone? What will Ian do when he finds out the girl he's falling for is the daughter to his enemy? What will Kate do ? I can't wait for book 2
So I have to say this was not what I was expecting from Ellie Danes. Her books always draw me in instantly and I can't put the book down until I am done. However, this one started off a little to slow for me. Half way through the book I figured out what was happening and I just wanted to get there. I felt like I was in that Starbucks line patiently waiting to get my coffee. I can imagine there will be a lot of drama in book two...I just wished I had gotten a little more in book one. I look forward to book two because I see where the story is going. The characters and story all have potential and I know that Ellie doesn't disappoint I just feel this book got off to a slow start.
I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. I loved the book and can't wait for the rest to come. The love story between Ian and Kate does start a little slow but I can see where Ellie is going with this. We need to know their back stories, their lives and family moments. It was a chance meeting of all places Starbucks. I hope I know where their story is going but for Ian and Kate they have yet to discover just how intertwined their lives already are. I'm hooked and patiently awaiting the next book in the series. While I'm doing that I just finished Hunts Desire and It Takes Two The Matchmaker Series both are great series by Ellie Danes and Lily Knight. Now onto the next good read.
I received this as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Wow..... That sure was one heck of a cliffhanger.... Wait til these two figure out who each other is.... Eeeeek love a good twisted suspensful story. Man is Ian for a shock of his life.... His nemesis is the Father of the girl who he severely lusts over and can't forget... I love Ellie's books and this is a great start to I'm sure an exciting ride... I can't wait to see what happens next...
Can true love conquer all??? Guess we will soon find out.... Bring on part #2.
Crossed Hearts started out slow in the beginning and picked up toward the middle. Ian and Kate have this connection and I loved the way these two met.
There's definitely a lot of emotion and moving parts in this story. It will be great to see where it goes in the next book. There was a lot of build up in the first one. Which I felt was all necessary to get us ready for where the story is heading.
Very good book I love it great author well written good story read the book it's so much to it if you don't read it you will miss so much a sister story having the responsobility of caring for a mentally girl her father want help but the guy she likes is in a law suit with her father but they don't know yet but things are fixing to happen read the book enjoy Margie
Wow, what a wonderful story. Kate and Ian have more personal baggage than most characters I have read about. This makes their situation more intriguing. It is interesting to see a relationship develop between this couple. With every step forward they seem to take two steps back. The more I read about this couple, the more I want to know.
This book has started out really good and I really am looking forward to the story continuing. Given what I've read so far I can already feel for Ian and Kate. They are going to have a bumpy road I think. Ugh !! I wish I had the complete story now. Read for yourselves and see if you don't agree.
The story started a little slow, but after that the book was excellent. I am so excited to read the next book. Ian and Kate are extremely adorable and I cannot wait to see what is in store for them. As always, Ellie does not let us down.
The first 2 chapters, yep I said 2 chapters (9%) of the book were about Starbucks. I've made it 50% through the book and it is so very predictable. It's a very slow moving book. Not much happening. I'm thinking about reading the last chapter to confirm my suspensions
