Over 1000 five star reviews. 100000s of copies sold. Nearly 2000 pages of lightning-paced action. The first three stories in the series readers are describing as: A fierce, sparkling and enchanted SciFi tale!
SCRAPYARD SHIP (Book 1) Lieutenant Commander Jason Reynolds has had a string of bad luck lately -- evident by the uncomfortable house arrest bracelet strapped to his right ankle. Worse yet, he’s relegated to his grandfather’s old house and rambling scrapyard. To complicate things, the women in his life are pulling from every direction. But It’s through a bizarre turn of events that Jason is led to a dried up subterranean aquifer hundreds of feet below ground. Here he discovers an advanced alien spacecraft, one that will propel his life in a new direction.
The adventure begins… and with it new troubles for Jason: The Craing, an unstoppable interstellar threat, is headed right for Earth. A desperate situation goes from bad to worse as the Alliance crumbles.
Fortunately, Jason’s unorthodox and impetuous nature seems to work in his favor as he moves up to the captain’s chair. First order of business is to reconnect with his SEAL team compatriots and face this enemy head on. What's at stake? The very survival of the human race.
This is a full-length 70,000-word novel, first in the science fiction adventure series for Scrapyard Ship. Also note... the sequel, HAB 12 is also now available!
HAB 12 (Book 2)
Captain Jason Reynolds faces new challenges, not only on Earth but from the far side of the universe as well. The only way to stop the Craing this time will be to square off with them on their home turf.
Jason's been informed that three powerful Craing warships, having similar technology as The Lilly, will soon be en route to Earth. The Alliance must destroy the Craing's wormhole means of distant space travel to avert Earth's total annihilation. Unfortunately, there's no way to reach the Craing worlds in time, at least not through conventional means.
It's up to Jason and his hand-picked assault team to traverse, by advanced phase-shifting means, through the hazardous environment of HAB 12. This is an adventure fraught with carnivores of a Jurassic Age magnitude, and a terrain so deadly that turning back may be their only hope of survival.
SPACE VENGEANCE (BOOK 3)
Captain Jason Reynolds is back! In the third installment of the Scrapyard Ship sci-fi adventure series, Space Vengeance, Jason, his family, and The Lilly's crew face the impending destruction of their internal nano-devices. What's worse, what remains of the Craing fleet, some 1500 warships, is back and headed straight toward the already decimated planets within Allied space. In what looks to be a one-way suicide mission, Jason must leave Nan and Mollie behind on Earth and out of harm’s way.
While war rages on sixty light years from Earth, maniacal space raider Captain Stalls and hundreds of his pirated warships close in on Earth. Stalls knows exactly what he wants: to find and kill Captain Reynolds and take the beautiful Nan Reynolds for his own.
This book comes across very much like a TV series, complete with the tricks (Deck Portal) to transition from one room to another without any in between. Phase shifting transportation. Cute mechanical being interaction with our hero. Not any hint that the author has any military background (and hence makes some seriously stupid tactical errors). Only uses imperial maeasurements and never metric. Has a young 8 yo girl as a reoccurring character (to better get the kids interested). Good guys are all humanoid in appearance. It was all acceptable, but I have personally grown away from these short cuts.
Book #1. Ends in a cliff hanger. It was a stupid book #1 ending as the conclusion was completed in Chapter 1 of book #2. I did not like how this was handled. It comes across as a cheap ploy to get you into the next book.
Book #2. Has a better ending point. I am not a fan of this middle story. It was an imaginative method to travel vast distances, but it did not really appeal to me.
Book #3. Ends in a cliff hanger. But unfortunately, I lost much of my interest in continuing this book series. Not enough impending doom for the heroes with a last minute win. Just fails to build up suspense. How is it that a plasma blaster used to destroy a structure would not kill a human?
Overall, it was only okay for me. I have moved to more hard science and less hollywood TV sci-fi. I will not be continuing this series.
Premise of the book is pretty good, but the actions of the main protagonist our sophomoric at best.
I like the science fiction aspects of this book the continuing development of science fiction implementation such as multi guns and the phase shift. I also like the cast of characters except for Jason‘s wife and his eight-year-old daughter nan it’s such a witch and Molly is just annoying. As a reader I do not believe children should be in science fiction books. That’s why I did not read this series earlier. The author spends the lives of characters even though they maybe secondary to the plot like they are an infinite source, there are only so many Navy SEALs. Did not like that aspect of the book you would think the author has in in for Navy SEALs. Also Jason makes sophomoric mistakes and decisions such as the ping-pong relationship between his ex-wife and his alien med tech. He goes into situations without checking his weapons to see how they function and let his guard down no self-respecting seal marine or Ranger what do anything like that. And there doesn’t seem to be any repercussions for him when he gets half of his team killed because of his miss cues. The other reason I am reading this box it now is because it’s complete, I do not like cliffhangers. A Book should stand on its own and if the readers like it they will review it and clamor for the next one. What is keeping me reading is the storyline itself is very good. It’s just the inconsistency of the main character is why I gave it three stars.
Save Me! From Cliffhangers!😵 Sci-fi military space opera.🚀🔫💥💫 Round and around these three books go , basically same story over and over. The futuristic starship Lilly🚀, gets blasted💥 and nearly destroyed in every book, then repaired and the Crew gets blasted💥 and gravely injured, even killed, but miraculously saved to fight another day.
This set of novels is a time passer with some gimmicks to get the main characters out of various predicaments. This reads like a soap opera, mainly lots of boring dialog and petty events, punctuated by a big battle or personal crisis every once in a while to keep the reader interested. I did finish these books but won't be continuing to the next ones.
I got this ebook from Amazon📚 with Kindle Unlimited.
My mistake was to read McGinnis' The Hidden Ship first. Great story, awesome proofreading and complete in one book. I highly recommend it.
Scrapyard Ship is a totally different deal. All three of the books in the first omnibus end in cliffhangers. I expect the rest end likewise. McGinnis is a talented storyteller and I like the story, but a story needs breaks. It shouldn't go on and on and on without a rest. There are break points, but McGinnis chose marketing over reader enjoyment and didn't end any of the books at the break points.
The proofreading is below my standards. Homonyms are misused--gate for gait, there for they're or their, etc. 45 degrees as the angle between north and east. Not bad enough to ruin the story, but often enough to be irritating.
Yes, I'll finish reading the series and probably the rest of his books, but I'm disappointed that I'm reading good, when I should be reading great.
I confused these books for the rustbucket series, thinking I'd read them years agon on cassette, but checking my book history, I see I read these in 2014. Well, I did remember them, but didn't remember much about them, and only read the first 4 anyway, so now I'm reading the whole collection, perhaps it will work better as a whole instead of segments. I'm of course an avid scifi fan, and anything with spaceships, aliens, battles, and space ships (did I mention spaceships) always turns out to be a pretty decent read most of the time, so I have no qualms in recommending this series to those who also enjoy their scifi with a bit of spaceship battling or alien manipulation involved. If that's your kind of thing, you really can't go wrong with this collection.
couldn't even finish the sample. Who takes their ten year old daughter looking for a mysterious trespasser in a large junkyard. Then, when the daughter is killed, his actions learning about, and conversing with his missing father, he doesn't try to learn any facts, he just acts in a totally unbelievable manner. Trying to act like a petulant kid instead of a grown navy officer. This book will hurt your forehead from all the eyerolling you will do
I picked up the Scrapyard series because I read some of the author's later work but this series was not quite as good and after three books left you hanging only to fid out that there was 4 more books (4 thru 7). The storyline and the action is interesting but some times so over the top that I found my self shaking my head in disbelief even though I know its function :-) Then when you get to the end of book three you find out that there are four more books!

There is no doubt that Mr MC Ginnie tells a good story but when I read a series that relies on keeping the reader suspended I stop reading the author. A good story has a beginning, an engaging story to tell and a resolution and if the writing is good enough the reader will seek more. Otherwise its just a soap opera and manipulative and who likes being manipulated?
Indomitable captain Jason leads the fight to save Earth and the rest of the universe from the Craing. Enjoyed his unorthodox solutions to tactical problems. Well written with humor and wit.
Interesting story so far, the first three books in the series are full of interesting characters and lots of action. Looking forward to the next in the series.
I read all 3 books in a row and can say it kept me guessing and entertained. Loved the dynamic with Mollie who is Captains daughter and Nan as his ex wife and Mom to Mollie. Also what a fight to protect the earth from the alien invasion.
Good story lines keeps you interested with multiple stories Description of multiple species and their good and bad points make for keeping a reader wanting to keep reading
Good start to a great story, Great alien characters, interpersonal relationships keep things hopping. Especially like the involvement of families in the plot.
Great author he does a good job of grabbing your attention and keeping it. Also explains what’s going on in a way that isn’t overbearing but still informative.
