Billionaire Cowboys #1

What the Bachelor Gets

Rate this book

The Billionaire Cowboys trilogy by best-selling author Kristina Knight kicks off with a seductive story of long-simmering feelings and hot Vegas nights.

When Vegas Nightly names local property developer Gage Reeves as its sexiest bachelor, he's barraged with a stream of showgirls, local socialites, and entertainers who all expect something from him. But all Gage wants is to make a success of his new luxury shopping development.

Enter Callie Holliday. Callie dreams of having the hottest day spa in Vegas, but she's saddled with a bad location and an account balance full of zeroes. When she walks into a last-chance meeting with an angel investor and finds herself face to face with Gage, the childhood friend on whom she had a huge crush, she's not sure his reputation is the right match for her business. But then he offers her a storefront in his new high-end retail complex, and she has to admit it's a thoroughly tempting proposition. But feelings she thought were long buried threaten to turn their deal from strictly professional to decidedly personal.

It's risky business gambling on love . . .

Once upon a time, Kristina Knight spent her days running from car crash to fire to meetings with local police--no, she wasn't a troublemaker, she was a journalist. Her career took her all over the United States, writing about everything from a serial killer's capture to the National Finals Rodeo. Along the way she found her very own Knight in Shining Cowboy Boots and an abiding love for romance novels. Kristina writes contemporary romance with a smattering of sass, sex and (of course) drama, and she loves hearing from readers. And just like the characters from her favorite books, she's living her own happily ever after.

Callie came home, to Las Vegas, to heal, to have the support of her parents and make a new life and business for herself. So far, things aren't going so well. Number one is gonna take time--two, her now retired parents have decided to become vagabonds, and she is closing up her failing spa. There is one, maybe two bright spots--a possible business opportunity and the surprising guy holding the purse strings. This opportunity may just help her with number one!

Yep, high school crush and "friend" Gage is the decision maker for the new spa loan. He didn't know his client was his old friend and math tutor. Callie is all grown up and quite something. But he doesn't mix his private and business life and neither does she. His history doesn't make him a good bet for a woman like Callie. So why can't he stay away?

Watch the two battle their desire, needs, professional vs. private lives all in the bright lights of Las Vegas.

Could not finish

I got about 30 percent into the book and just couldn't do it. No chemistry and was boring. I kept waiting for humor or something but nada.

This is great story about a second chance at love. Gage and Callie were young only 18 when tragedy stuck Gage’s family. The only person that was there for him through it all was Callie. Callie was more than willing to be there for Gage in anyway necessary. She just wished that he saw her as more than a friend. Gage wanted Callie as more than a friend but was scared that if he asked for more he would lose her too and can couldn’t lose anyone else in his life. The author does a great job just touching on the past enough so that the reader can understand where the relationship between Callie and Gage originated from.

The details that are provided throughout the book are amazing. Having never been to Las Vegas myself it really helped me to be able to put myself there and know what the characters were surrounded by. From the tall buildings, bright lights and the view from the roller coaster at the top of one of the hotels. It was just so clear what the surroundings looked like and what they were feeling.

The main plot was clear from the beginning but the author did an amazing job with adding a smaller sub-plot and keeping the details of that hidden throughout most of the book. It was the other intriguing factor in the story other than the relationship between Callie and Gage.

The detail of the story lines and the characters, along with the surroundings and emotions had me hooked from the beginning. I can’t wait to see if there is another book in the series. I would like to see what happens to Callie’s trusted friend Mandy and to Gage’s brothers.

This was my first book by Kristina Knight but it certainly won't be the last. She had me hooked in just a few short chapters, made me fall in love with her characters and stay glued to my seat until the very last page.

Callie Holliday has come home to Vegas. After a failed marriage she want's a new start, to be near her family and to get her business off and running.
While not everything goes as planned, her family sells their home, buys an RV an heads out to tour the country. Meanwhile Callie's struggling. Her business needs help or it won't make it. She's looking for an investor and comes face to face with her childhood friend Gage Reeves.
Sexy as hell, one of Vegas' most eligible bachelors she's not certain about taking his help. He offers more than she's asking for and even helps her relocate. But there's a problem. She's attracted to her benefactor. The one man she should steer clear of because everyone knows business and pleasure don't mix, but finds it harder and harder to push him away.
Mutual attraction, history and business all come together in what could make or break them.

Loved Callie, she's strong and self sufficient, not happy about getting help from a friend. And Gage, not a shark or playboy as some would make him out to be, he's got a heart of gold and a pocket full of cash that gets him what he wants in business.
I read this one in one sitting, it will suck you in and keep you turning the pages til the end!

My Review:
What the bachelor gets took me by surprise. I can’t say what I expected but I think it would have exceeded those expectations that I might have had. The details provided by this book are amazing it really took me into a journey to Las Vegas having never been there I was feeling myself right there, the dry weather, the casinos, the boutiques just amazing. And if we talk about the love story between Gage and Callie was a total roller-coaster. During their young days Callie was his rock and she was kind of a tomboy so he wasn’t into her but now red toenails and strappy heels was another story.
Both have lose a lot during their journey through life they both wanted more than a friendship but are afraid of lose anyone else in their life. We can see bits of their past through the chapters to get understand how was their relationship.
One of my favorite things about this book was how the author did an amazing job adding sub-plot and hidden details through all the chapters. Obviously this gives to the story an intriguing factor between Callie and Gage. I’m excited to see what’s coming in this series and know more about the story of Gage’s brothers.
The main plot was clear from the beginning but the author did an amazing job with adding a smaller sub-plot and keeping the details of that hidden throughout most of the book. It was the other intriguing factor in the story other than the relationship between Callie and Gage.

This is my frist book I have read by Kristina Knight and won't be my last. I sat up all night Last night reading this book! I fell in love with Gage from the beginning( probably from the cover).
I loved that there is a strong female lead and though Gage is a strict businessman it also showed his character. He has a fun side and a humanitarian side and a sexy side as well. Pure perfection! There is a good plot, lots of character growth and some pretty hot sex later on.
The only thing i missed was since it is called Billionaire Cowboys I would have liked a bit more cowboy to it, granted we did get to see Gage on the ranch and in cowboy gear a couple of times.
If you like brothers, billionaires, strong female leads, romance, and some pretty hot sex, I think you will love this book! I can't wait to see which brother is next!

I was pulled right into this story. The story is a second chance at love story. The story has laughs and heartbreak.

This is Callie and Gage’s story. Gage was Callie’s secret crush in high school. Now they meet again and he is just the man to help her out with her work. Can she work with him without the old feelings she had coming back? The both normally do not mix business with pleasure. Will they not be able to fight the attraction they have for each other? Or will they be all business? Can she really try for a chance with Gage when she needs him to help her out? Or will they be able to keep the business separate from the pleasure they are sure to have together?

I loved these characters and also the side characters. I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I recommend this book.

This was such a sweet and sexy you second chance romance... I think of it as a second chance since Callie had a crush on Gage throughout high school and was to scared and shy to take what she wants. Years later, as an adult, running into the ultra sexy, Vegas rich bachelor. .. it all comes back.

I loved this story! It was totally sweet and I read this book straight through.

I enjoyed this book. Its sweet and sexy story. Callie is strong and smart woman. Gage is most sexy eligible bachelor. Callie struggling with her business needs help. In comes childhood friend Gage who has the means to help. The attraction is strong between Callie and Gage. Can Callie take the chance and let Gage help her? Is their attraction for each other worth the risk? You will fall in love with Callie and Gage. Kristina did an amazing job. Received copy for honest review

I really enjoyed this one. I like when the characters have a history especially from their childhood. Callie and Gage have a working relationship, but the attraction is their between them just waiting to flair up. Neither want to make that step, but the chemistry is just too much to deny. How will it affect their working relationship when things get personal?

DNF - I was over halfway through (pg 162) and just couldn’t finish it (even though I skimmed a lot of it). There’s no chemistry between the characters and there’s a lot of repetition in conversations and internal musings. I also got frustrated with the characters constantly changing their minds. Every time they decided to take a step forward in their relationship they, mainly the heroine, would take a step back again -pretty much immediately. Even more frustrating was that the hero only had to say a couple things and the heroine was back in the game while heartedly. WAY too wishy-washy and it was always the same excuses.

I bought the three books as a bundle and am debating whether to chalk it up as a loss or try book 2...

This is my first Kristina Knight romance but it won't be my last. I have to say, that I didn't like the cover and had I been browsing for books, I probably would have by-passed this one based on the image. But I'm so glad I didn't! Luckily, I didn't see Gage like this at all and I fell in love with him from the beginning. I pictured him as much more cowboy than billionaire in spite of his Hugo Boss suits (though maybe that's just my preference and I focused on the aspects of his description I preferred). But Gage is such a developed character--showing the businessman as well as the ranch owner, the lost son, the struggling brother, the playboy, and the best friend. And I felt that Callie was equally well-developed as a character. Both showed emotions that went back and forth and up and down as they tried to come to grips with their past relationships (both with each other and their families) as well as current and future events. I also thought Knight did a great job of advancing the romance at a good pace and their eventual coming together--and finally admitting their feelings and commitment to each other--was perfect. But I hate that the story ended there. Knight made it feel so much more like a beginning than an ending! Which makes me very happy that this is #1 of a series because not only do I want to see Connor and Jase's stories and get to know them better, but I want to see how Gage and Callie advance. I want to know what happens with the spa and I want to know if McKinney gets his comeuppance.

I also want to put a note in about the setting and Knight's use of it. Set in Las Vegas, Knight weaves the glamour of the strip and the rugged beauty of the surrounding areas into the character's lives, emotions, and events. We see how Callie loves the neon and the people of the strip and Callie and Gage both like the escape of the ranch. And she doesn't shy away from Vegas's dark side--the toll the gambling had on Gage's family and the hurt of Vegas's somewhat out-of-control development on both of them. Many romances can be picked up and moved to any other similar landscape without affecting the story but Knight makes sure that Vegas is as integral to her story as any other character.

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Callie grew up in Vegas and loves the city, so when her marriage doesn't pan out and she's ready to open her own business, she goes home. Home to her family (who promptly decide to travel the world) her city and all things familiar. But her business is struggling and she's forced to seek funding or lose another dream.

Gage Reeves is the most eligible bachelor in Vegas and Callie's friend from high-school. They lost touch over the years but her return to Vegas brings out a whole other set of feelings for his old friend. Can Callie accept his help and trust in them enough to give the bachelor what he wants?

This was a sweet book. It felt rather tentative, (no sex until the last 1/4 of the book) like falling in love for the first time after having your heart broken...you don't rush right in. But it felt right for this couple. Good read, great characters and left me with a desire to fly to Vegas. Nicely done.
