When a shipwreck washes up on a beach across from Marlow House, Frederickport residents wonder what happened to the ship’s crew. Danielle discovers the ship brought a stowaway—a spirit with ties to Frederickport that go back to the 1920s—when Walt, Marlow House’s resident ghost, was still alive.
This series has become a comfort read for me! I haven't been let down by a single book yet, they all either get 4 or 4.5 stars and I'm so happy I have a lot more books in this series to read.
Every time I need a pick-me-up or I haven't had good luck with other books I've picked up I returned to read one or two in this series.
I love Danielle & Walt. I love how even though this series has so many books I never think it's silly how Danielle gets involved again and again. The character growth in some side characters is lovely to see and each mystery is the exactly right amount of cosy and intriguing.
I said after the last book I would not purchase any more in this series, but once I start a series I feel compelled to keep reading it. I loved the beginning books- 1-3 were pretty good. Engaging, fun, interesting mysteries. At this point in the series, the characters have grown boring and trite. I don't like Danielle. She's rude and poorly written. She's not a believable character. The love triangles are absolutely vapid. I do not like Lily. Enough with Lily. Walt is the best character, and he's dead. The plot was thin, in fact see through. The dialogue is ridiculous. People don't actually have conversations like are in this book. I am over this series and done with it now. I understand cozy mysteries are corny, but this series is full of poor writing. It can be a cozy without poor writing (and editing!).
I love cozies. But, this one fell completely flat and the plot was unoriginal and unenjoyable. And, the lack of editing- it was enough to make it completely unreadable. Steaming pile of doo doo.
I loved having a old friend of Walts show up and learning a little more about him. But I don't like the idea of Walt waiting till Danielle and Lily are okay when he leaves! He's my favorite ghost 👻
This was supposed to be a fun book about Danielle, who is able to see ghosts, and it was fun, only it wasn't a great fun book. The fact that Danielle sees ghosts is a great thing considering that she shares her home with Walt, a ghost who is a distant relation.
There are those in town that know about Danielle's gift and others just think she is a bit crazy. The plot was ok, but it was the conversations between the characters that pulled the book down to mediocrity. I don't think that people are as banal as this book makes them appear, even in Maine.
A mysterious ship has washed up on the beach and every one in Friedrich port is questioning as to where did this monstrosity come from.
But for Danielle it also brings along a new ghost from the 1920s, Jack who's been on the Eva Aphrodite for more than 90 years now and there's something unresolved that has kept his spirit stuck on this plane.
What's more shocking is the fact when it comes to light that the ship belonged to Walt Marlow and Jack was once best friends with Walt and they had business together.
Another chilling fact comes to light about the crimes committed aboard which had led to a huge tragedy and now Danielle once again has to find out the truth behind it all if she wants freedom for the many souls still waiting for the truth to be out.
I felt this one was kinda like an adventure ride where on one hand Danielle has to somehow dig up documents, letters etc.. Just about anything she can find to know about the truth. It was a delight to join Danielle on this wild ride.
I really laughed in this one because we also have comedic moments like people wanting to find the hidden treasure and doing everything to find the location of it.
I feel our author is brilliantly teasing us with insane chemistry between Walt and Danielle and making us readers go crazy because I'm like I want to see them together but the fact is, it's just not possible.
One of my favorite highlights in each book has been the last chapter we get with Walt dream hopping Danielle's dream and the gorgeous picture that's painted that gives you all the feels of how much Walt yearns to spend real time with Danielle.
I have sighed so many times during these scenes in each book BUT WHAT WAS THAT SCENE AT THE END. I MEAN WHAT THE.. 😍😚 I'M so excited to see where our author will take us next especially where Walt and Danielle are concerned. Absolutely loved loved this one. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
3.5 Stars. I used to love this series but it’s starting to get a bit ridiculous, even for someone like me, who believes in ghosts. But the things that the ghosts are able to do now are so far-fetched that what ordinarily would have been a good ‘cozy mystery’ has now become just a silly story. I’m taking a break, and maybe I’ll pick it up again in the future.
3.5 A blast from the past come to visit when a wrecked ship washed up ashore Bringing Jack, Walt’s old business partner’s ghost ashore along with some other ghostly passengers. With treasure hunters around there’s a mystery to solve.
3.75 stars (Audible). I'm glad I took a little break from this series because I think some of the characters were just getting on my nerves. As such, this one was more pleasant to read.
Every book from this series has the same premise: there is a ghost who is still bound to earth through some unfinished business. And every book builds on the things that have happened in previous books until the reader can almost believe in the real and complex relationships between characters and ghosts. With that being said, and I count it as a positive, every book is such a fun read. Danielle is the continuing character and she owns Marlowe House, a sort of haunted Bed & Breakfast on the Oregon coast. Walt Marlowe, the previous owner and present day ghost, was a wealthy man who died young. Nearly every book's ghost is tied to him in some way. I think that the dynamics between Danielle and Walt are very interesting since they have some attraction to each other.
In this book the wreck of a sunken yacht suddenly appears on the beach. The yacht had been owned by Walt in the 1920s and it was presumed to have been sunk in a violent storm. But it came with a ghost- Walt's old business partner who supposedly ran off with their money and was never seen again. The new ghost, Jack, swears that he didn't take the money and he doesn't remember being aboard the yacht but his physical body is found on the yacht. With some twists and turns Danielle, who sees and can communicate with ghosts, unravels the almost 90 year old mysteries.
I'm happy that there are at least 12 more books in this series for me to read. They need read in order for the best understanding.
I've been listening to this series on audible. Each book I swear it's my last one, but I love ghost mysteries and these are reliable. Why do I keep swearing I'm going to quit this series? The dialogue is so annoying - people "quipping" and saying things like "rather" all the time. It's stiff and obnoxious. And mostly Danielle is supposed to be in her early 30s, except she literally acts like a 65 year old woman. She talks like a 65yo, she acts like a 65yo, she drives a Ford flex, and don't get me started about her "fishtail braid." She is right out of a baby boomer prescription medication commercial. And how old is Lily supposed to be? She acts like she's over 50. Why not make the characters those ages?
Has the author...met anyone in their 30s lately?
Finally there are a lot of cartoonish and sexist depictions of any and all women who aren't Danielle or Lily.
This is all aggravating I want to quit the series but I get sucked into just wanting to hear about the ghosts -- and the pets. I wish I could literally skip everything, especially Danielle judging all the women around her, and her annoying dialogue, and only read the ghosts, the dog, and the cat.
I looked ahead in future books and apparently Danielle is somehow going to pair up with Walt? Arghhhhh.
I may be too young to read these books. AND I'M 47!!!!!
The Ghost from the Sea (Haunting Danielle #8) by Bobbi Holmes ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Liked it. Wouldn’t go out of my way to recommend * I’m trying to think back to the earlier books. Some involved people from Danielle’s family/past, some involved more modern local people, but this one went back to the history of the town and the people that Walt knew in his day. I appreciate that in a series this long, that the mystery varies as far as how the person is connected to the overarching story. The slow burn romance between Danielle and Walt is so endearing. He is still learning about modern women and she is still holding up her walls from her past. I’m rooting for them - Danalt, Dalt, Wanielle - but I’m honestly curious how the author will eventually bring them together in future books. * #cozyread #cozymystery #mystery #ghost #supernatural #ghoststory #cozysupernatural
I like this series, even though they're kind of the same. In this one, at lease, we are FINALLY rid of the Earthbound Spirits group, except for a connection with one of the suspicious people in the story. In this one, a spirit who has been confined to his ship at the bottom of the ocean manages to bring the boat ashore, which just happens to be across the street from Danielle. Turns out he was connected to Walt, Danielle's resident ghost, and there are several skulls on board who were murdered. Walt becomes a suspect in this ancient murder, so Danielle once again has to clear his name. It's all pretty convoluted, but what mystery isn't?
I usually list my grievances, but I really don't have any outside of a couple of minor swear words. I can't even take off a whole point for that, so I'm giving it 5 stars.
I think I might be done with this series, sadly. Maybe it's because I read it while I fall asleep, but I have no idea what's going on anymore. I'm also not super into organized crime or monetary motives. I want a murder to be about murder, y'know?
So far, every book has been better than the previous, which is unusual. Most of us look forward to a sequel, but don't expect it to be better than the first. This series seems to be the exception for me.
In the previous year, Danielle Boatman has lost her husband, but found he was cheating on her. The pain of this betrayal has her selling the company they started and looking for a new start. It doesn't help that she can see ghosts who haven't moved on. However, she finds her new start in an unexpected inheritance from a Great Aunt by marriage, The Marlowe House. But Marlowe house comes with secrets and the town, a wide variety of characters. The main character is Walt Marlow, a Ghost, excuse me, a spirit (Walt does not like the term ghost) who died in his own attic at the age of 25. He has decided he doesn't want to "move on" to the next part of his journey. There's a touch of romance in the air, but where can a Spirit and a live woman's relationship go?
Danielle came to Marlowe House to start over. And she has. There are new friends, a ghost in residence (Walt Marlowe), and a place where she feels at home; she has even helped reunite lost siblings. But there have been set backs. Her cousin was murdered, her best friend nearly dies, and the local police wonder why she keeps finding herself in the middle of all these murders. Then, a man Danielle hated is murdered in her home.
The relic of a ship is washed up on shore just blocks from Marlowe house. First it is learned that the ship was Walt Marlowe's, but Walt isn't happy for the memories. His best friend disappeared about the same time that the ship was lost at sea along with gold coins from their business. Then, Danielle finds a ghost on board and the Police determine the boat was scuttled, meaning the people on board were murdered.
The ghost of Walt's best friend, who swears he didn't steal the gold is sure he hid it. If true, why was he on the boat? And how did all of the passengers' jewelry get back into the ship, in a box that is only a few months old? As Danielle investigates and questions the Ghost, it becomes obvious that someone has been tampering with the ship and its contents. Can Danielle find the gold, solve the mystery of the ships sinking, and help Walt's friend move to the other side? Or will others find the gold first?
I love this book series, even though the writing isn't perfect and the editing is awful. Despite these very obvious flaws, the characters are funny and engaging and you're sucked into their world. Utterly impossible things and extremely unlikely coincidences happen every single month to Danielle Boatman and the other people of Fredericksport, but the mystery presented in each book is well-enough crafted that I am always shocked by the whodunit at the end. I don't know if the author ever reads these reviews, but I'd like to point out two criticisms I have. One: Every single character in the book uses the word "rather" um, rather too much. Not everyone uses rather in that way, especially younger characters like Lily & Danielle. It makes the characters seem like they all have the same voice, at times, which comes off as poor dialogue choices. Two: There is a scene in this book where Heather, the gothic neighbor, is out running and she is described as wearing a tan or sandy colored running suit. Goths don't wear tan nude, sandy, etc colors. EVER. Unless it's a work uniform, or something. Any real goth would rather die than wear neutral colors.
Overall I enjoyed the story but couldn't rate it higher because I can't stand the author's decision to have a Danielle/Walt romantic relationship. No, no, and h@#l no! Danielle has enough men in the town to choose from and getting involved with a ghost is just a dumb plot move.
This story focused on a mystery from Walt's time. The more we learn about Walt's past, the more we learn how he was surrounded by crooks and thieves in this town; and everyone stashes their valuables in the walls and floors of their homes - seriously?!?!? The resolution of the found jewelry was crazy & eye rolling worthy. I'm ready to take a break from the series after this one.
Another episode of the Haunting Danielle series. I've enjoyed these all along, as I've mentioned in other reviews, there is just enough fantasy/paranormal activity to keep me interested but not overwhelming! The one thing I will comment on is I've been listening to the audio versions of these stories from Overdrive, and it does drive me slightly crazy at times that the lady who is reading the story puts the wrong emphasis on words. Or I wouldn't put the emphasis on those words anyways. But that's a pretty common thing for audio for me, so I won't complain. Great stories!
Walt Marlow's fancy yacht the Eva Aphrodite was lost in a storm over 100 years ago. How it washed up on the shores of Frederickport is just one of the many questions that now need to be answered! What happened to all the guests on board? Did Walt's business partner Jack Winters really run off with the business's money? And how did jewelry that the women were wearing that night, end up in a VERY modern safety box bought recently from Walmart???? With a little help from the living and the paranormal, all questions will be answered.
I am really enjoying this series. Each book and it's mystery is so different from the previous one and yet each book let's you see the same characters progressing. I hope when the last book in this series is written as are given a satisfactory conclusion to the relationship between Danielle and Walt. Sometimes I think about skipping to the last chapter of the book just see what possible romantic gesture will occur.
I enjoyed reading this book and I think anyone would who wonder about the possibility of ghosts and lingering in the earthly realm. It checks all the boxes for me, the wonderful Danielle, Walt, Lily, Ian, Chief McDonald and the characters living in the magical town of Fredericksport, Oregon. And the mysteries are intriguing as they unfold.
Possibly the best book in the whole series so far! The plot line was fairly easy to follow, and we got a little look back into the life of Walt Marlow, as well as learned a little about characters that were only briefly mentioned in the previous books. And now it looks like this may be the beginning of a budding romance, and long as that dream kiss doesn’t cause too much trouble. 😮

The series continues to have a well written mystery that's hard to solve. To me, Adam is the feisty character in the series. He thinks he's fooling his grandmother but he's not. Dani finds herself in another bind trying to help spirits move on. The ending caught me by surprise and I'm not sure how I feel about it all. I plan to continue with the series.
Liked Walt's friend Jack, would loved for him to be in a few more stories. Maybe he will be. Quite a few twists but this book seemed different to me. There are some characters that seem to have changed personalites Joe for instance was not the same. I don't think Ian, Lily & max were in the story enough. But it's a very good story despite this.

This was another. I love this Authors. They write wonderful book and different series. Their Mysteries are great. They have a great imagination and wonderful storylines in every book. The characters are great so are ghosts. Diana Romano
I tired to get into this series. I just cant. too much going on and seeing as Walt can magically come back . meh just lost me. Too bad i think if more time was spent strengthen Dani character and more ghost storying I could vibe but this remind me of ghost whisper with Riverdale high and the world turn all mixed into one.
I definitely like solving the older mysteries more than the modern ones, and this was a great example of an older mystery. Some things worked out a little too neat, and I'm not a fan of incredibly annoying characters that seem to be caricatures of real people, but overall I think the series is getting better.
I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title. (Audible Membership)
A ghost moves a ship to the sands across from House. When the police investigate, they find remains of long dead people, plus other items they can not totally explain. Walt has an old story to tell, but even her doesn't know the truth about what happened to the yatch and its occupants.
