What do you do when your flesh is a part of the streets but your heart is in the church?Gavon Cunningham aka Gee has been raised by his grandmother ever since his father Alvin, was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his mother. As much praying as Mama Jean constantly does for Gavon, he never seemed to understand why he was so drawn to the street life. Gavon’s only dream was to get enough money in order to move his grandmother and girl out of the hood.Chardonnay is Gee's money hungry and ghetto fabulous girlfriend. Love and loyalty to her man is non existent when it comes to anyone other than herself. When she finds out that Gavon wasn’t bringing in any real money, she links up with someone else to plan Gavon's demise. What Chardonnay didn’t expect was for the hand of God to still be on his life while he lived this so called street life.Enter Gavon's "ram in the bush" Chasiti. The strong, independent, young woman that loves herself enough to know that she won't settle for just any old man, but a Godly man. But there is something that Chasiti sees in Gavon and it makes her want him even more. Will she be the breath of fresh air that Gavon needs in order to see the real purpose for his life or will Chardonnay's plan succeed? All Alvin wants is a chance to see his only son but even after all of these years Gavon still wants nothing to do with his father. The hate he has is so deep for the man who created him, that it's enough to cause Alvin to want to end life as he knows it. Will the prayers of his loving grandmother be heard and will he forgive his father after all? What do you do when the streets keep sucking you in but someone is steady trying to pray you out? No one can serve two masters, either he will love one and hate the other. Which one will Gavon choose and will it be too late?
These ladies have written a banging read. I loved every word. Mama Jean was my girl. She reminded me so much as my grandmother. She didn't hold her tongue about anything. She always spoke whatever was on her mind. This book definitely has a message. It goes to show you that anyone can change their life around. Prayer does work. Great job Ladies. I look forward to reading more from you in the future.
An amazing story, I love how mama jean was always preaching to her grandson to keep him in the right path! Chardonnay was the ratchet girl but with a little prayer her life turned completely around. Mario and his dad , wow... Hey you reap what you sow!! I'm happy for Chasti and Gavon.
Sometimes we try to ignore the power of pray, this story reminded me just how powerful God's love is. I was actually selfish today and skipped church to read this, but I was so filled after completing it I think God will forgive me. There was just so much join in this story and Mama Jean reminded me so much of my grandmother (rest her soul). There is nothing like a God fearing praying person. He Will definitely show us the way, and stop us if he feels we've gone to far. Thanks for this story it was truly amazing.
I like loved this book and the inspirational messages behind her characters! I was sad when Mama Jean passed away but it revealed that God called her home to change Gavon! He could not prosper and be the man God wanted him to be if someone was always holding his hand. I loved the connection between Gee and Chas and the spiritual relationship they share. I am excited that his father was freed and that everyone else got what they deserved. Denora you did your thing with this book. Great job!!!!
As a suggestion from a friend I decided to change up a little on my reading vibe. Why??? I love me some thug hustler shot em up kinda books but all those books are starting to sound the same and I think I am getting characters mixed up so I stepped back and with this first read by Denora Boone I don't regret it. Mama Jean surely had me laughing. I felt the reality in this read, pain, love and all sorts of emotions but a great read nonetheless. Well lets see whats up next. Thanks for an excellent read Author Boone.
AMAZING! This story had me screaming, shouting, laughing and crying. Mama Jean is the real deal and I loved that she did not sugarcoat anything. Gavon and Chasiti, have become one of my favorite couples and I need to see more of them. Jenica Johnson and Denora Boone, please give us another story with this couple. Excellent story, it made my day a little bit brighter.
This is definitely a must read. I cried so much reading this book. It was very touching. I loved it. I definitely loved the message that came with this book. If I didn't know God before reading this book I would have wanted to. You ladies did an awesome job on this book.
Such a delightful read! Great collaboration ladies! I thought Mama Jean's prayerful nature was such a positive influence to Gavon & Chasity. They were kept on the right track, despite the turmoil they faced. While Chardonnay's evilness had to run its course, I was glad when she finally came to her senses...The storyline & content held me captive & I recommend all to read!
Such a great read, it's nice to come across an urban story with a bigger meaning! Gosh, the urban stories today are so drab and seem to all have the same storyline leading to the same place or a sequel. Looking forward to reading more from the author and similar ones in the "Urban Christian" category. We need more books with meaning, purpose & inspiration.
I absolutely loved this book... The storyline and the characters were developed greatly. It had me half crying, laughing and mad on different parts can't wait to read more
This book was truly a work of art. So many emotions come into play when reading this story. These two amazing authors really brought out some great life lessons in Gavons story line. I really enjoyed reading from beginning to end!! Great collaboration ladies!!!!
A few months ago while going through my free urban kindle books downloading spree I ended up paying for this thinking it was free when it wasn't. I noticed the 99 cents charge on a statement and then looked up what book it was. I'm a bit of a heathen and noticed it was an urban Christian book and smacked my lips thinking it wouldn't be good. I decided to go ahead and read it since the authors got my coins and man it was a great read.
This book had it all. I loved Mama Jean's character. Gavon made me want to smack him early on in the book. I wanted Chardonnnay to go on somewhere and that Chastiti was an angel. There isn't any cussing in this but it does get graphic. There were a few things that had me scratching my head. One being were people writing "lol" in letters twenty years ago? Also I wondered why Gavon went back to Chardonnay's house after he was stabbed, knowing she had something to do with it. Gavon acted really slow at times.
Mama Jean dying was quick and sudden just like death is.
While reading the ending I wanted Gavon to tell Chardonnay to get the hell out of the church. All in all it was an excellent story with a wonderful message. It isn't too late to turn your life around. Forgive people.

I loved this book mainly because of the references to God, forgiveness, scriptures, and being saved all while giving us a taste of the street life. Chasiti and Gavon are adorable and I don't think Chardonnay is sincere at all...I hate we lost Mama Jean and I'm glad Gavon and Alvin made amends. Something is lurking to make a mess in their lives because that's just how the devil operates. There's a part 2 for a reason...EXCELLENT READ!!
This was definitely a different type of read for me. I didn't expect it to go that deep but it was a good read. I loved Mama Jean she told it how it was. Chastiti was Gavon's saving grace.
This book is great! It is Urban Christian fiction with a good storyline. I went into it because the title cracked me up, but it was very interesting and kept me reading to find out what happened to one of the characters.
I truly enjoyed this story. What God did for Gavon was heaven sent. I am so glad that he changed for the better. I am happy for Chardonnay also. You reap what you sow is so true. Excellent story. Keep up the good work
Mama Jean had a special in everyone's heart that knew her. Mario and his father got what they deserved. Gavon and Chas made it after all. Loved this book would like to hear more about the characters especially his Uncles.
