Cupcake favorites and dessert classics from the pastry chef and creator of Sprinkles Cupcakes and judge on Food Network's Cupcake Wars .
When Candace Nelson started Sprinkles, America's first cupcakes-only bakery, in 2005, people thought she was crazy. "What else do you sell?" they'd ask. But Sprinkles sold out on opening day . . . and hasn't slowed down since!
But Candace doesn't stop there. She shares the recipes for her all-time favorite cakes, pies, quick breads, cookies, bars, and other treats, plus delicious guest recipes from Sprinkles friends like Reese Witherspoon, Julia Roberts, and Michael Strahan. The Sprinkles Baking Book is filled with all-American classics that will appeal to everyone in your family and on your dinner party guest list. So, don't hold back. Treat yourself to this sweet cookbook and share in the fun!
I received this book in a giveaway, here is my honest review of this book:
First, the name of the book, "Sprinkles", I am already happy. If you knew me, you would know I always want a dessert with Sprinkles! It just makes you happier, so I am already liking this book.
Second, the introduction by the author, Candace Nelson, transports you back to your childhood or the childhood you always wanted. Memories of baking with your mother, helping her level out the sugar in measuring cups or your first time whipping an egg white. It gives you a real sense to how good the recipes/book is going to be.
Third, I like to go through a book and see how many recipes, I actually want to make or can make. I started keeping track of the recipes I wanted to make, when I noticed that it was EVERY page that I had gone through. That is a rare occasion in a cookbook, when I actually want to make everything in it. But the recipes are displayed simple with easy to follow instructions, and ingredients that you will have on hand. My first recipe that I am going to try of this book, 'Chocolate Chip Cookie Cupcakes', how delicious does that sound? For the crust, you first have to make, 'Chocolate Chip Cookie Monsters', you only use half of the recipe, so in reality, I will have 2 desserts for the day (I can't wait for tomorrow)! Or maybe I will make 'Black and White Cupcakes' or 'Peanut Butter Chip Cupcakes' or forget I can't decided!
Fourth, I feel like I am a picture snob, I want pictures in color in ALL cookbooks, or in this instance, baking book. There is a multitude of beautiful pictures and how each recipe is to look like, done. Now I could keep going on about what I LOVE about this book or you could just get it for yourself and find out. Do it! Go buy it! I know you want to, you will not regret it.
As a fan of Sprinkles cupcake, I was excited when I found this book at the library. As soon as I was home, I drooled over the recipes and the beautiful photos of these sweet temptations (which almost made me lick the cookbook). I was definitely not surprised when the recipe for the popular red velvet cupcakes appears first. (I have tried other red velvet cupcakes, and Sprinkles red velvet cupcakes are hands down the best!) I appreciate the tips here and there so I could learn how to be a better baker. The backstories of each of the recipes are fascinating. I felt like making all of the recipes, and as of now, I have made only the quadruple (actually triple because I didn't have any cacao nibs on hand) chocolate chip cookies. I am looking forward to making more desserts in the future and see how my red velvet cupcakes turn out.
This is a must for cupcake fans. There are a lot of really creative, not-as-hard-as you might think, recipes in here. I also thought the quick bread and cookie recipes were good, though the cakes are kind of labor intensive (as are some of the special occasion cupcakes).
The thing that irritated me is that the book is sprinkled with random glamor shots of the author. Her in a long dress, wandering in a garden. Or curled up with a book and a kid in a section featuring fall cupcakes. While I don't mind the glamorous shots of her baking (or the cupcake ATM story - that was cute), after a while it got gratuitous.
If you enjoy baking, you've got to check this out for some ideas and fresh recipes.
I decided to try three recipes for Thanksgiving Weekend. SUCCESS. I got great feedback from all my relatives and they all enjoyed the cupcakes. I did red velvet because that one is my favorite and I loved it. I like all the recipes that where included in this book and super happy that there is a cupcake for everyone. RECOMMENDED.
I can't wait to try some of the recipes in this book. I love to bake and I love Sprinkles cupcakes, but Candace has so many offering in this book, I don't know where to start! I love the history behind the company and I love Candace's story. I highly recommend.
I received this cookbook as a Christmas present, and I have made several things from it. The recipes are easy to follow, and the results are rich and satisfying. A good baking book, but will definitely need to be used in moderation for those who tend to gain weight ; )
This is a great cookbook because all of the recipes come out great and delicious the cupcake batter is especially moist and fluffy. The only problem I have is the recipes have extra steps but other than that. I love to use these recipes all the time.
YES. Everything about this book is just YES. How is it possible for all the recipes to be simple, inspiring and dare I say showstopping all at the same time? I'm not exactly sure how she did it but Candace Nelson made one epic baking book. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be making myself a batch of PB & J Blondies...for the third time...this month. Just get the book, people. It's great.
The stars here were not the cupcake recipes that I intended but a few of the other unexpected ones I found; Gingersnap Crust, Nutella Rice Krispy Treats and Coffee Toffee Shortbread Cookies.
Great story of a woman's idea and passion for food and business success story.
Wishing it wasn't hard cover and lighter to carry.
