This 128 pagechapter book, focusing on Dr. Strange will feature full-color interactiveillustrations throughout. And just in time for his new film!
Well, this is a children's book so I'm obviously not the target audience. But I was surprised by how captivating this story is. There is action, awesome illustrations, all your favourite heroes (like Captain Marvel, Thor and Iron Man) and a valuable lesson for Stephen Strange (and everybody else) to learn. Spoiler Alert: You can't do everything alone, sometimes you need to ask for help - even if you are the Sorcerer Supreme. Thumbs up for this little book!
Although I am 25 and this book is written for a much younger age I thoroughly enjoyed this chapter book. Fun fonts and illustrations reminded me of when I wrote and designed my own stories in middle school. And I loved how the big personalities of the heroes were not diminished by the reading level or size of the book.
Doctor Strange needs help from the avengers and other superheroes to battle evil from other dimensions. Will he accept the help or face it alone? Great little book for Marvel fans all of ages. 4.0 Bookworms
Obviously, this is for children. Too many explanations + extremely simplified language really irked me but overall, not a bad one. 4 stars because I'm a trash for superheroes teaming up. That's my Jam.
Another fun story from this series. Doctor Strange is stretched by different events before learning the value of teamwork.
I didn't like the formatting as much in this, with everyones dialogue looking much more normal. There was a big splash double page that managed to get all of the characters in the middle of the spine so you couldnt really see.
Doctor Strange is in trouble! Doctor Strange is the powerful Sorcerer Supreme. There is no one who can match him or his knowledge of the mystic arts in his dimension, but the Doctor does have a few downfalls. He does now get along well with others and refuses help from anyone, including the Avengers! Now, magical beasts from other dimensions are attacking New York City and Doctor Strange has no idea who is behind the assaults. After receiving wise advise from The Ancient One, Doctor Strange needs the help of his friends to save the day and stop this mysterious evil force to save New York.
Discussion Questions: 1. Why do you think that Doctor Strange doesn't like to ask anyone for help? 2. Think about what you do when you have a problem. Do you ask for help or do you try and figure it out by yourself? 3. Do you think Doctor Strange regrets not asking his friends for help sooner? 4. Do you believe some of the chaos could have been prevented if he had asked his friends for help earlier? 5. What are some areas in your life that you struggle to ask help in?
Brandon T., S. (2016). Doctor Strange: Mystery of Dark Magic: A Might Marvel Chapter Book. New York: Marvel Press.
Totally a fun book for everyone to enjoy. Doctor Strange is a fascinating character. He loves to be on his own and doesn't like to seek help from others who don't know anything about magic. The world was turning upside down with magical creatures attacking humans. He had to seek advice from Marvel characters in order to help human kind. I loved the illustrations very colorful. Brandon did a lovely job of writing a story that brings a super hero to the rescue.
While this book overall was true to what I know of the Marvel universe, the writing and story seemed to fall flat. The writing style seemed jagged towards the beginning of the book but later evens out. Doctor Strange learns that he can't do everything alone and accepts the counsel of others, a good message for everyone.
Doctor Strange has always been my favorite comic hero, so I had to give this a read. Quick bit of fun with the Scarlet Witch as a happy bonus. And who doesn’t dig Brother Voodoo?
