Animal Planet Chapter Books: Dinosaurs! by Animal Planet & Lori Stein is such an awesome book for people of all ages! I can't say enough about this book. Each page has wonderful and colorful, dramatic pictures that will blow you away! There is trivia scattered throughout and the book is fun. The book doesn't talk down to the reader, just gives the facts in a fun and interesting way that keeps the reader hooked. I learned some things myself. The book explains what makes a dinosaur a dinosaur, discusses the eras, the various sizes of dinos, the smartest, the pack hunters, the oddities, the armor and weapons built in, and more. Did you know some dinos have built in shades, there is a Pinocchio Rex, T.Rex bites 3 times stronger than the great white shark, and T Rex is really smart? The book discusses the emergence of feathers and flight, the Gentle Giants, the study of the dino poop, yes I said poop, the food they ate and their teeth, eggs to hatching to the herd, and so much more all with those awesome pictures. This is a very wonderful book for any kid or adult that likes dinosaurs or science! Thanks NetGalley for suggesting this book!

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

I was really squealing and flailing when I saw I was accepted for this one. I love anything to do with dinosaurs and so I was delighted that I had a chance to read and review this one.

But I do have to say that after reading this I am a bit disappointed. I expected more illustrations/art (dinosaurs/other critters from that era) or photographs (from skeletons/dig sites), but instead it was mostly a wall of text. Then there was the fact that some stuff got rehashed (for instance on one page you would have a small image with a subtext under it, and that would get rehashed in the wall of text that followed 1 or more pages later.

Luckily there are some illustrations/photographs, so there was a bit of a break in all the text. I definitely liked how those things were styled, it looked really nice.

I also love the colourful border around the text (with in the corner a lizard and plants).

I still have to laugh about the fact that quite a few of the dinosaurs these days look like freaking chickens. I kind of miss the old dinosaurs without all the feathers and wings stuff.

The text is easily read, with quite a few explanations here and there for some of the words.

I loved how it began with the beginning and then ended with the destruction of the dinosaurs.

I do have to say it was a shame there was no mention of international museums.

But all in all, I enjoyed this book a lot, and I would recommend it.

The Age of Dinosaurs lasted about 186 million years. Those millions of years produced creatures whose names: Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops, and Stegosaurus are familiar to book and movie audiences.

Animal Planet’s new chapter book, DINOSAURS! opens with an overview that introduces some of the more familiar names, explains the basics of fossilization, details how dinosaur are placed in orders and groups, and describes the characteristics that dinosaurs share.
Included in the eleven chapters are a wide range of topics: the bi-pedal theropods, T-Rex, dinosaur parents, feathered dinosaurs, the gigantic sauropods, anatomy, and carnivores vs. herbivores.

An abundance of photographs enrich the text and provide visual interest. Inserts titled IN YOUR NEWS FEED supply thumbnail discussions ranging from growth rates in dinosaur hatchlings, to the Pinocchio Rex named for its long nose. FACT FILES, highlight extraordinary details such as the discovery of the most complete T-Rex skeleton, Sue -- the remarkable mummification of dinosaur skin brought to light by a 16-year-old amateur paleontologist – as well as discussions of dinosaur eggs, and the ways in which Stegosaurus and Ankylosaurus utilized their armored tails in battle. Colored text boxes define terms, and offer extra details.

A fun and informative resource for young dinosaur fans.

I got an ARC of this book, so mine wasn't the finished copy but I am now determined to purchase the entire series for both my libraries. Dinosaurs are always a hot topic, and this chapter book introduces young readers to a wide variety of dinosaurs, organized by type. Readers learn about size, diet, teeth, senses, life cycle and more. The way the information was organized was particularly fascinating. I liked the chapter focuses on different types of dinosaurs, what made them unique, and how they changed through time. the writing is crisp and engaging, and the topic is, of course, highly popular. This was a really interesting books. Kids are going to love it.

Animal Planet’s Dinosaurs! by Lori Stein is a great way to teach kids all about dinosaurs, not that you really need too. Kids often know more about the titanic dragons of yester-millenia better than adults. Sadly, a love for dinosaurs seems to lose its lustre as we grow older. Not me, thankfully, and I've passed that on to my cublings. Like the Animal Planet: Unusual, etc Animals, we read this as a family. Afterwards, I pulled out my own fossil and artefact collection and we discussed the fossils. Half of the young ones were horrified by the coprolites. The others were fascinated. Now they want to go fossil hunting...

This book is stuffed with all kinds of great information, and plenty of illustrations. There's a glossary/pronunciation guide in the back to help with the Latin oriented names. I love that this book prompted intellectual interest and discussion. The older cublings even took some of our more 'adult’ books on dinosaurs to read. Our extended family has a very large library, with a fairly extensive natural history section.

I would have liked to have seen greater expansion in each of the sections. I believe a bit more detail would not be amiss. Overall, though, this was a good first look book, and a great addition to any kid’s library.

This is a great book that anyone who has an interest in dinosaurs will love. It is geared for junior grade (9 and up) students as younger ones will not be able to read it. There are a huge number of facts given in this book, but it is organized in a way that is easy to follow. The illustrations are great. They use images of fossils and museum displays as well as illustrations. Within the ten chapters were sections entitled Dino Details, Facts Files, and In Your Newsfeed that give the reader some fun, informative facts. This is not a book that a child could consume in one sitting, there is so much information, they would need to take their time to take it all in.

There is a pronunciation key at the end of the book which would be very helpful for anyone not familiar with all the types of dinosaurs. The resources listed, other books and websites, would be great for the reader or teacher. If a family is looking to visit a museum with dinosaurs, they even list several of them at the back of the book. This would be a great book to have in public, school, class and even family libraries.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

'Animal Planet Chapter Books: Dinosaurs!' by Animal Planet deserves the exclamation point in it's title. As well as featuring lots of facts about dinosaurs, it features some great digital art of dinosaurs (like the one on the cover).

The T. Rex gets its own chapter, but the rest are grouped based on head plating, or diet, or size comparison. Fossils are discussed and shown. Even dinosaur poop is discussed, and shown! There are quizzes and insets. The best are the dinosaur illustrations. They are in full color and full dinosaur glory. There are sharp carnivore teeth, and a cool front shot of a T. Rex with a dinosaur in its jaws.

It's an easy read, except for the dinosaur names, but the back of the book has a pronunciation guide. There is also a list of resources including museums, books, and websites to check out. It's the perfect book for your younger dinosaur fan.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Time Inc. Books., Animal Planet, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

I will admit to not being in the Grades 1 – 5 age group anymore. It’s been a few years since I read anything about dinosaurs. So when I got this gem of a book I read it straight through and learned some things, Within the 110 pages are a lot of interesting facts.

The pictures and drawings were well done. There was a pronunciation key at the end of the book which would be very helpful for anyone not familiar with all the types of dinosaurs. The resources listed would be great for the reader or teacher. Also, there were some websites listed.

Within most of the ten chapters were sections titled Dino Details, Facts Files, In Your Newsfeed that give the reader some fun, informative facts.

I received a free copy of the book from NetGalley in exchanged for my honest review. I also received a free copy as a Goodreads giveaway. Thank you.

Great transition book for moving grade level readers to more text and less illustration type fact books that I mostly see with books on dinosaurs. This book (and series of books) is great to motivate more imaginative reading of chapter books with more interesting/engaging content than strict text only chapter books or novels. One disappointment for me was the presenting of the millions of years scientific hypothesis as actual fact, which can't be confirmed or concluded by the scientific process or recorded history (or is even contradictory to recorded history). Another dissappointment was that their seemed to be an inconsistent quality to the page designs and illustrations, some were great and some a bit sub-par. Overall if I had a reader that liked dinosaurs and needed reading practice I would recommend this book.

I've seen quite a few of these nonfiction chapter books coming out recently. My kids have several of them and for the most part, they're pretty good.

This book is about dinosaurs (obviously). As a chapter book, it has more text and fewer pictures than some of Animal Planet's other books. It's full of information about dinosaurs, the different periods, and the lifestyles of these amazing animals.

My only complaint with this book is the vocabulary. It was difficult for me to read, and nearly impossible for my kids. There is no pronunciation guide to help you say those difficult dinosaur names. In my opinion, pronunciation guides are a must when you're reading a kids dinosaur book.

Other than the vocabulary being so advanced, I liked the book. I read it with my kids and they liked learning about the different groups of dinosaurs and the periods in which they lived.

I think my dino-crazy kids who are ready for more dense information will enjoy this book. The first few chapters are very text heavy, but then the authors begin to break up the text with a number of text boxes, side bars, and a lot of illustrations. The pronunciation guide and index are helpful, but the bolded words within the book are a little confusing. It appears the names of dinosaurs are in bold the first time they are introduced, but that usually indicates inclusion in a glossary. There is not a glossary in this book. All in all, an interesting read for dinosaur lovers.

My son loves this book. He loves dinosaurs and non-fiction, so this is perfect for him. It's one of his first chapter books and this one (along with the Sharks! book in this series) has him asking for more chapter books.

I received this book as an ARC from Time Inc. books, though my son is too young to understand ARCs and it definitely does not influence his love of the book.
