Spin Apocalypse is a humorous science fiction novella that follows public relations specialist Patrick Buckley through his deadly ordeal of representing Dr. Apocalypse, a super villain intent on taking over the world through political manipulation, marketing, and advertising.
Newly single and threatened with the loss of his job, Patrick Buckley reluctantly “volunteers” to become the new PR agent for the international known genius and homicidal maniac, Dr. Apocalypse. Buckley travels to the doctor’s flying city of Apocrypha, a place of unparalleled technical advancements and biological oddities. Most of these advancements could change the world for the better but are being held hostage by their creator. There Patrick is given the task of sanitizing the doctor’s reputation so that he may begin securing the rest of the world through, mostly, legal means. Despite his initial reluctance Patrick discovers that not only is he good at this job but perhaps enjoys it more then he should.
Accompanying Patrick in his moral struggle is Morgan, Dr. Apocalypse’s daughter, who has her own agenda, and Nesmith, an enigmatic personal assistant. Blending science fiction and social satire, Spin Apocalypse explores the ideas of the misuse of genius, the unsettling ease of gaining political power, the necessity of purpose, the potential evils of advertising when combined with an ignorant populace, and how cool it would be to have a genetically altered miniaturized dinosaur.
