A Right to Remain

Rate this book
He had a right to remain suffocated by his pain.
She had a right to remain silent about hers.

For better or for worse.
Those were the vows that I had taken with my wife six years ago. We had lived through the better and were barely getting through the worse. I tried to face our loss together, while she chose to have an affair instead.
Time apart was what we both needed.
What I didn’t expect in that time was her.
The beauty she possessed on the outside was a far cry from the scars she was harboring on the inside. She wasn’t looking for love and neither was I. She just needed someone to help her deal with the pain she had been carrying around for the past two years, and I was happy to oblige.
I wasn’t supposed to fall in love with her, but suddenly I was seeing a future that I never dreamed of right in front of my eyes….only to find that the past had other things in mind for us.
***
I always believed that we only got one true love in life, and mine was gone and never coming back.
Through the tear-filled nights and never ending days, I was slowly and tortuously coming to terms with the pain that was my reality.
And then he entered my life.
Tall, handsome, genuine and caring, he was a friend when I needed one most. Together, we were a temporary fix to our own permanent pain. Just two people helping each other to get through a very dark period in life.
But when the light begins to shine ever so slightly with each passing day, and his face is all I can see at the end of that tunnel…..do I run back into the darkness or move into the light with him?

Ever since I can remember, I've always had a passion for Creative Writing. There's something special about being able to travel to a different place or become a different person with just the stroke of a pen--or in today's world a touch of the keyboard. Maybe it all started with the soap opera-level drama I used to script for my Barbie dolls. Plot twists, emotional arcs, surprise twins—it was basically a writer’s room before I even knew what one was. Whatever the spark, storytelling quickly became my favorite way to explore, create, and shake up reality just a little. I love stories that keep me on my toes. The kind that push me outside my comfort zone and introduce me to characters I either want to be friends with... or dramatically argue with in a fictional diner.

I love traveling to scout out new and exciting settings for my books—but nothing beats a peaceful walk in the woods or a seat by the ocean close to home. Turns out, plot twists and inspiration show up just fine with a sea breeze and squirrels.

My Thoughts - Story
I shouldn’t be surprised when I start to read a book by Ms. Rinyu that it will end up being a 5 Star and a book that holds me captive.

She has gifted me with stories of suspense, heartbreak, tough issues, humor and light romance and each time she nails the genre right on the head. I love each and every one of her books and find myself completely emerging with the characters and the journey they take.

This is definitely one of those times that her characters really shined. Quinn and Lacey are so complex and developed perfectly with many twists to their personalities that Ms. Rinyu had me anxious to see what would happen next.

A Right to Remain by Beth Rinyu
4 stars!!

“I realize now that my heart is big enough to hold love for more than one person. You gave me my happily, and he will give me my every after.”

A Right to Remain is a book that brings together a few of my favourite tropes all wrapped up into a highly addictive story that will keep you page turning from first to last page. First and foremost, this is a love story, a story of two characters that have their own heap of hurt to contend with and a new love is the furthest thing from their mind. Then you have that air of mystery and suspense that Beth Rinyu cleverly wove throughout culminating in a suspense filled ending that will have you wringing your hands in anticipation and hope.

“Sometimes we need to stop wasting time trying to mend the things in life that are beyond repair. Instead, we need to allow them to fall completely apart so we can start rebuilding them with a stronger foundation, and Lacey showed me how to do just that. She reconstructed the pieces of my heart, day by day, little by little, piece by piece, until it was finally whole once again.”

Quinn Lavery was a character that you cannot help but fall in love with. This man had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. He was a police officer and he was married but at the start of this book his marriage is failing and he and his wife are in counselling. Having experienced a tragic loss, Quinn’s wife did the unspeakable, rather than seek solace and comfort in the arms of her husband she chose to seek it in the arms of another, the ultimate betrayal. Quinn had never been enough for her, she had always been career and money oriented and honestly, their ideals and aspirations had just drifted apart. It is through counselling that Quinn realises his marriage is over.

Lacey Sullivan had lost her husband in tragic circumstances and the scars from that event two years ago still haunt her to this day. Lacey decides a clean break in a new town is what she needs to try and heal and so she ups sticks and with her trusty companion they embark on a new life. They move miles and miles away, they rent a cabin and Lacey gets a job as a teacher. The cabin was quiet, on the edge of the woods and the setting was truly tranquil, the perfect environment to regroup and take stock of her life.

Lacey meets her landlord sooner than she anticipates as he is living in the cabin above her. Following the breakdown of his marriage Quinn is living in one of his cabins and once introductions are made and initial insecurities and wariness are overcome a beautiful friendship soon follows. Lacey and Quinn have a lot in common. They have both loved hard and both lost. Both are grieving and coming to terms with the hand that they have been dealt and both of them soon seek solace in the words of the other. Their conversations bring wisdom, experience and clarity in muddy situations and both are a stepping stone to healing for the other. The growth of their friendship was beautiful to watch. Whereas Quinn once sought his answers at the bottom of the bottle, he now has Lacey to steer him right and whereas Lacey once internalised everything and kept everything bottled, she now has Quinn and therapy to open up and begin to mend those scars. Spending so much time together though blurs the lines of the friendship, but are these two ready to embark on love once again or will their pasts hold them back?

“If I had one thing to be thankful for this year, it would be for the girl who moved in downstairs from me a few months ago, the same one who with each passing day was moving slowly into my heart.”

The past always has a habit of infiltrating our present and for Lacey her past consists of painful memories and a lot of emotional scarring. It seems someone does not want to leave her past dead and buried and herein lies the mystery and suspense element of this story that keeps you on your toes while reading.

Beth Rinyu cleverly weaves a story that will have you second guessing throughout. With secrets getting unearthed, revelations aplenty and a friend or foe mentality you never know who to trust. But the crux of this story remains the blossoming relationship between Quinn and Lacey and it was truly heart-warming. To see two people, mend their scars and take a second chance on love with one another was memorable and you couldn’t help but champion these two along. They have a lot of mountains to climb and it seems that the world is against them but these two have longevity stamped all over them, they just need to believe in one and other.

“You make me feel alive when I’m with you, and that’s something I never dreamed would be possible again.”

I will say, there was one revelation that I didn’t feel was necessary and when I came across it I kind of deflated and it was this one thing that really took the shine off of what was up until that point a five-star book. Sometimes less is more and for me this plot twist wasn’t warranted and just made me feel a bit yuck inside, I can’t really explain it, but once you read it, you may or may not feel the same. However, it didn’t detract from a fabulous read that I thoroughly enjoyed and for all you romantic suspense readers I am sure you will love this one too.

This was a great story to lose myself in because it morphed from a friendship to a love story then there was a mystery to be solved and eventually a lot of suspense. So it pretty much crossed a few genres which was quite refreshing for me because it kept me guessing.

Quinn is have time out from his marriage after his wife cheated on him. They had recently been through something very sad and painful and instead of turning inwards to her husband for support and comfort, she sought it outside of her marriage. Quinn loves his wife and takes his marriage vows very seriously, however he is beginning to realise that this separation could become permanent.

'Sometimes we need to stop wasting time trying to mend the things in life that are beyond repair. Instead, we need to allow them to fall completely apart so we can start rebuilding them with a stronger foundation.'

Lacey has just arrived in town to rent a Lake House, with her dog in tow. She was widowed after her husband was tragically killed and she needed to get away from everything in her town that were constant reminders of the life she had. She wasn't expecting to meet her new landlord Quinn and was equally surprised to discover he would be living above her in his own quarters.

Thus begins a really sweet friendship between two people who have both had loss in their life and have both deeply loved someone else. It is really like fate that these two meet each other, as the months pass they individually can feel themselves healing and opening up. I really loved how Quinn brought Lacey out of her shell, often pushing her boundaries.

'She reconstructed the pieces of my heart, day by day, little by little, piece by piece, until it was finally whole once again'

There is more to come though, I just wanted these two to fall in love and live HEA but there are people determined to intervene. Some people from the past have been lurking in the background some who pose a threat to the life that Lacey has created for herself.

There are a lot of secrets and revelations in this story that I did not see coming and I just couldn't read fast enough to keep up with everything. Needless to say I was very drawn into this book. There was one revelation near the end that I was a bit 'really?' about but that was just because I felt the story was already wrapped up and it was like another added thing that I didn't think was necessary, however it did not take away from my enjoyment of this story.

Review by Jen Skewes

A Right to Remain is a bit different from Beth’s other work. And that is not a bad thing at all. In fact I loved this book for all the reasons as to why it was different. This one is a second chance love story for both characters so it is a beautiful love story that is also weaved in with mystery and suspense. There is also a bit more angst than I am used to from Ms. Rinyu.

Lacey was married to Aaron who was the love of her life. He was this beautiful and amazing man who loved her and treasured her and was the perfect man. He was her happily ever after that she always dreamed about. Until one day it was all taken away from her and she no longer had the love of her life. Aaron was gone and he was never coming back and Lacey was left trying to put the pieces of her heart back together and trying to get past the pain of losing him. She had her happily but never got her ever after. When she moved to a new state to take a new job in hopes of being able to move on she met Quinn. And he was hurting just as much as she was.

Quinn is going through a really rough time right now. When their marriage was tested in a very bad way, it started to crumble. His wife whom he loved very much was having an affair. She wanted to work it out but how can you work out a marriage when one spouse cannot or maybe does not want to let go of the other man in her life. And the other spouse no longer trusts you. Quinn needed space and moved out of their house. He lives upstairs from his grandfather’s house that he now owns. And his new tenant has just moved in. He meets Lacey and at first he is not sure what to make of her and her stand-offish personality, until he gets to know her and learns of her heartbreaking story.

Lacey and Quinn are both broken in their own way. But together they learn to slowly heal and move on from the hurt. To move on from their past and start to live again. They never planned on falling for each other, but they did. Lacey still has a tremendous amount of guilt that she is carrying for more than one reason. Quinn just wants to love and protect Lacey. But there seem to be so many obstacles in their way that you wonder how they will make it work? When things get bad the both seem to run and aside from that driving me completely crazy, it also in a way made me sad for them. They both had issues with trust and I totally understand why. They both had fears that they needed to get through in order to move on. They weren't looking for love and instead formed a beautiful friendship that unexpectedly turned into so much more. They came into each other's life at the right time and were just perfect together.

Beth Rinyu has once again created characters that I fell in love with. I loved watching their friendship slowly build into something more. I felt for both Quinn and Lacey and all that they both had gone through. They had so many obstacles to overcome to get to their happily ever after. Their past came back to cause trouble causing drama and suspense. Which is what I loved. this book was a little different than most of Ms. Rinyu's books because of the mystery and suspense but she did an amazing job with it. She kept you on the edge of your seat wondering what would happen next. And the twists and turns in this book will completely surprise you. I never saw it coming. I loved the emotion that this book brought out and felt the connection with these two characters. Another amazing job by Beth Rinyu.

A Right To Remain was a beautiful book written about taking second chances. Quinn Lavery is on the brink of getting a divorce from his obnoxious and heartless wife. At the time of a most harrowing moment, she does the unspeakable and he just can’t get passed it. She’s just one of those types of people who look down on others and is just so consumed with herself. And, here’s Lacey Sullivan who suffered through one of the most horrific traumas of her young life. She doesn’t know if she will ever be able to claim her life back after something so violently was taken from her. She takes a chance on changing her life, though, and moves to another town trying to start over. When she meets Quinn, her new landlord, their relationship starts off on a friendly note. The longer they know each other, however, she knows without a doubt that Quinn is starting to mean more to her than just a cordial interest. There’s most assuredly chemistry between the couple. But, Lacey considers herself to be the other woman and guilt eats at her. Quinn, though, couldn’t be more sweet and caring as he tries to prove to Lacey that his marriage is over, and his heart belongs to only her. Will they be able to get through all the roadblocks that seem to hinder them from getting further along in their relationship?

Boy, this one will knock your socks off! There were a few occasions that I was totally floored with the secrets that were revealed. I just didn’t see the unexpected coming, and I was shocked beyond belief. Wow! I can’t tell you how much I love a good mystery and this one totally hit it out of the ballpark with suspense. Complete surprise was definitely a continuous factor as I gasped out loud! My kids were like “what are you reading? We’ve never heard you talking so loud like that when you’re reading a book. It must be really good.” OMG, was it ever! This one will keep you on the edge of your seat! Not much else I can say without giving away spoilers, but this was one of the best books of this year that I’ve read. The romance also is there in its beauty and reverie. It was so intriguing how these two wounded individuals found each other. It really was an amazing story! Ms. Rinyu really outdid herself with this one! Another great read that had me so engrossed within its pages...

And, as you read this book, and come upon this quote, it will absolutely make you tear up as Lacey realizes how strong she is to now accept the past and move ahead with the future.

“I realize now that my heart is big enough to hold love for more than one person. You gave me my happily, and he will give me my ever after.” ~ Lacey (Chap. 42)

4.5 stars!

I haven't read any of this author's books, but I do have a few of them on my Kindle! I was then offered a review copy of this book from the author and the synopsis sound intriguing, so I said yes and read this book once I had finished a series I was reading! After reading, I can say that I enjoyed this book! The plot focused on two broken characters that helped each other heal and I felt like the author did a brilliant job with it! The plot also only took me a few sittings to read and I wanted to read on and find out what was going to happen next! There was a bit of an action and suspense element to the plot and it added a lot to it! It allowed for quite a few secrets to be revealed as well and there were a few that I really didn't see coming! There was also plenty of romance in the plot and I loved the way it developed and that it allowed for a few seriously steamy scenes! The characters were also amazing and made this book even better! Lacey was the main female character, and it was easy to see that she was hiding something in this book! I instantly wanted to wrap Lacey in a massive hug when I found out her story because she had been through a lot and lost someone who meant everything to her! Lacey had come a long way though and she was stronger! I also loved the way Lacey helped her love interest and she gave him good advice and was there for him! Quinn was the main male character and love interest of Lacey! I felt for Quinn in this book because he had really tried to make things work with his wife and he gave her several chances, but she kept messing it up! Quinn had also been through a devastating loss and this had a big impact on him! I felt like Quinn did what was best for him in this book! I also loved that Quinn supported Lacey and that he was determined to find the person responsible for what she had been through! I loved that this book was written from both Lacey and Quinn's point of views! I was expecting it to be written from dual point of view after I read the synopsis, so I'm really happy that it was! It helped me connect more with Lacey and Quinn and understand how they were both dealing with everything in their past and dealing with their current situation! It allowed for more things to happen in the plot as well, which helped at the characters did spent time apart! I can also completely understand why this book is a standalone! The plot answered all the questions and wrapped everything up! The ending was also left at the perfect place for the characters and summed up their story beautifully! I now can't wait to check out more of this author's books! I have a trilogy of hers on my Kindle that sounds amazing and also a few standalone books, so I can't wait to check them out! The cover for this book also suits it perfectly! I love it a lot and I can see how well it suits the story now I've read it! The cover image also suite the relationship between Lacey and Quinn and it would draw me to the book!

A Right to Remain is my first book by Beth Rinyu and certainly not my last. I was very impressed with it's Nicolas Sparks feel.... It had all the emotion, mystery and intrigue needed to make a great book. The subject matter is grievously sad and constructed in such a realistic manner, that it evokes empathy from it's reader. Lacey is suffering from a devastating tragedy, while Quinn is dealing with an ultimate betrayal. It's an inspirational story about healing, letting go and sequentially learning to live again. A right to remain is filled with convoluted twists, turns and surprises that you will not see coming. In between it all, Beth interweaved a beautiful second chance love story. Full of butterflies and feels.....

Quinn has suffered a life changing loss, followed by a betrayal from his wife. Confused and hurting, he moves into his cabin on the lake. Deciding to rent out the top half to a young teacher who moving to the area. Little did they know this would change the course of their lives forever. Lacey has been through a catastrophic event that would leave anyone emotionally and mentally crippled. She is lost, hollow and barely living. Two damaged people find each other and begin the process of healing. I love how their relationship blossomed right along with them. These characters are not only lovable, but they are memorable. As they grow closer, we feel a sense of danger lurking.... We discover something new around every corner. Mystery and suspense swirling! I loved all the ah ha moments that left me gasping. Quinn & Lacey's road is filled with roadblocks. Guilt, insecurities and outside forces that are against them. Neither one believing in happily ever after... Can they overcome their pasts? Will their pasts come back to haunt them??

Beth did such a wonderful job integrating romance with a thriller! I hope she continues to explore this mixed genre.

Whoa this book was amazing. It had so many beautiful yet heartbreaking moments. Lacey lived through a nightmare I believe every person fears and Quinn suffered through loss of child as well as his marriage. Through their heartbreak they able to support and love each other, which allowed to open themselves to something new. While Lacey was trying so hard to love on, her past was not done with, but is Quinn the right man to help her though it? Or is her husband's best friend the key to her healing?

Great book!

"He provided my happily, just not the ever after"

This pretty much sums up Lacey and Aaron's life. He was the love of her life and he was gone too soon. Quinn too, thought he had found his HEA, only to discover it wasn't. This is a second chance romance that neither saw coming. There are definite struggles and obstacles for this couple to over come from their collective pasts. There is suspense in this story too... and a couple of surprise twists that I didn't see coming.

I loved these characters and the epilogue :)

Josie's Review

A Right to Remain is a beautiful and uplifting romance story with a touch of suspense and mystery. The author gives readers a little bit of everything an eager reader would crave in a good story. The subject matter of loss and betrayal were so well written that the words that poured out of the pages touched me. The choice of wording and descriptions delivered a riveting and emotional read. There were so many times as I was reading that I had tears in my eyes. The touching journey the two main characters endured will stay with me for a long time.

I fell for Quinn’s character right away. Any man that takes his vows and marriage the way Quinn did is a man I want by my side. Despite the ultimate and ugly betrayal of his wife, Quinn still tries to stick by his vows and tries to save his marriage. I felt for him and his wife. They both suffered a very painful loss but instead of seeking comfort in each other, Quinn was the one left alone without the solace, sympathy and support of his wife. We witness this man bare his soul and admit how he failed in his marriage only to be met with constant blame from his wife. While still trying to figure out the next step Quinn starts to see the beauty of his new neighbor, Lacey and no longer envisions a life with his wife.

After tragically losing her husband Lacey and her dog start over and moved into a Lake house. Lacey was a shadow of herself and was never able to really get over her loss. How do you move on when the only man you loved is gone in a blink of an eye? Lacey never expected to meet Quinn. The more time she spends with Quinn the more she finds herself excited to see him again.

Quinn and Lacey are two people that are both suffering from loss. This author really shows how Quinn and Lacey were meant to for each other. The more time they spend together the more they begin to heal and open up to the possibility of more. What was so special to me about them was their relationship started as friends and slowly they form a loving, deep and caring relationship.

The love story between Quinn and Lacey is not the only thing that drew me to this book, it was the way the author added in some mystery that slowly develops throughout the story. I for one was left shocked by all the twists and turns that emerged in this book. I could not help rooting for this couple and just when I thought things were going well the past pops up determined to tear them apart. Just when Quinn find a love he has never known, someone from her past threatens to take it all away. I cannot begin to tell you how much I connected with both Quinn and Lacey, though each loss was different, that painful feeling was still there at every page. A Right to Remain was a remarkable read, one that is worth picking up.

I was given this book for an honest review

5 stars

As I was reading this author's acknowledgements, I stumbled by something that shocked me. She said that this is the first time that she wrote a romantic/mystery book and all I can say is wow. I look forward to reading new authors, to me and seeing if I can find someone else that I can put on my tbr. I love going into work and telling my friends hey I found an author that you need to read. This is one of those authors. It had everything that I look for in a book. It had a beginning that drew you into the main male lead. It had angst in it that brought us to the female lead. It had the timely mystery that you think you know something that would figure it out, but you had that twist that pulls you another way. It has that romance that is so fresh for these two characters, that it takes time to grow and you see how people learn to heal and move on, and seeing it not done overnight is one of the best feelings I have for a book. The author tied together everything in this book, that made me not stop reading. You have your strong and capable main characters, but you also have these secondary characters that you don't even think that way as you start reading the book. Every character in this book makes you feel as they are all the main characters because they all have a story to tell. There is some mature subject matter in this book, so I do caution on that. It is not completely in plain view but it is talked about in certain areas of the book. This book for me was a little different than a lot of my reads and I am so glad I picked it up. It told a brilliant story of two people trying to learn again after loss and tragedy. For anyone that has gone through that, this book lets you see how to work through some of that. I can't tell you enough how much I enjoyed this author and how I can't wait to read another book from her, but I have to say this a must read for anyone that likes romantic/mystery.

I don't want to break this story down for you because that is what the blurb is for, but I have to say you will invest you time in Lacey and Quinn. They show you so much from a book that you read for your leisure. I love the growth in this book. The ups and downs, and also the investigation that happens. Even when you think that you have it figured out more comes into play and that is what a great author does.

Loved the storyline. Loved the author. Cant wait to read more from this author.

It was partly heart breaking and partly sweet. It could be a little bit deeper but otherwise the author wrote the gradual process of healing and falling in love very well.

This book I can honestly say left me with such a mixed bag of emotions that I had to sleep on it before writing this review. Not that it was bad story, no it was a great storyline from the beginning but the topics covered in the story pulled me in so many different ways.
Quinn found dealing with his pain at the end of a bottle was the way to go some nights. The loss he suffered crippled him emotionally. Lacey found dealing with her pain the best way was leaving her past behind, literally. Renting Quinn’s downstairs apartment for Lacey can only be described as kismet. Two lost souls seeking comfort. Yet, uncovered secrets loomed to unravel Quinn and Lacey even further.
The story has a great plot line. Slow in the beginning, the story picks up as the characters are introduced and you find out what the next twist in story would be. Twists upon twists, some I saw coming and others totally... yeah blind sided is not the word. With the twists came the beauty in the story, the characters. All of the major characters had depth, strength, major flaws and just that little something that stays with the reader after the last page has been turned. Both Quinn and Lacey’s life story before they met is nothing other than gut wrenching, yet inspirational. I won’t give any spoilers but I will say the author wrote a compelling yet appropriately harsh reality.
So where does the confusion come in? While the author handled one major topic gracefully, there was one I just did not agree with in the least. I truly wished she had written that part of the story differently. Other things that I did not care for with the story was the length of the story... at 75% and at Chapter 35, I was not expecting any more shockers but yeah there were more. I know the complaint of length of story is that it's usually too short. This story was not short. Which brings me to my other concern with the story, the back and forth on whether Quinn and Lacey would be together just took too many iterations for me. I just wanted them together!!! And yeah, I wanted throw my iPad a couple times because I couldn’t help the thought of why did she do that?!
Would I recommend this book? Yes. Will I read more from this author? Most certainly. While the length of the story might have been an issue, I can not deny the story was worth it in the end, especially the epilogue! This was a 4 star read for me.

Beth Rinyu really writes a great story with A Right to Remain. She includes a little bit of everything you look for in a good book- a heartfelt love story, a touch of mystery and eventually even suspense. This book crosses over so many different genres that it’s easy to get your fix for whatever trope gets you going and truly enjoy reading a great story along the way.

Rinyu gives you two characters both lost and broken after losing love. Each in different forms, these two form an unbreakable bond in grief and eventually develop into something more. Quinn and Lacey’s friendship to lovers storyline was sweet, simple, heartfelt and cultivated perfectly for readers to fall in love with. Rinyu doesn’t stop there, but also gives you a hauntingly great mystery that keeps unraveling as you read drawing you in once again to the pain and suffering our leading lady, Lacey has endured.

While this book was a great read, it didn’t really surprise me. I am not sure if it was because I was so deeply invested in Lacey and Quinn’s story that I could guess how the story was about to unravel or if the author left too many details up for grabs, but many times throughout this story I could see exactly what was going to unravel next. Although there was one specific twist that Rinyu gets the “gotcha” button, the rest I could see coming. With that being said, I didn’t enjoy this story any less. I was still completely captivated by how it was going to play out in hopes of two people getting their happily ever after.

I can and will recommend this book to other readers. It had everything you could want in a great story and kept me interested until the very end. Rinyu delivers a great book that is well worth your read. I can’t wait to check out more by this author!

Beth Rinyu
A Right To Remain

Wow! My favorite Beth Rinyu yet!

A Right to Remain has it all. Mystery, angst, romance and spicy sexy time.

Lacey suffered a devastating loss, packed up and moved to a sleepy cottage in a small town. She is vulnerable and afraid but so strong in her resolve.

Quinn gave everything he had to his marriage but it still failed. He and his estranged wife suffered a loss that they could not recover from. He is heart broken and he is angry.

Rinyu weaves a great mystery inside of a beautiful romance. I was constantly surprised. The slow burn of Lacey and Quinn's relationship was a beautiful thing to read. When Lacey rents the cottage from Quinn and he lives in the upstairs apartment they become a source of comfort for each other. To me, this is her best work to date. The hero and heroine are both relatable lovable characters. Of course, Quinn is a hottie and grouchy on the outside and all softy on the inside. Lacey puts up a great front of being fine, but struggles with her losses. Her strength is her resilience.

The mystery is expertly woven in Lacey and Quinn's story and puts this book over the top for me.

The Right to Remain is an intriguing journey which I thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend to anyone.

I was provided an ARC for an honest review.

I really enjoyed reading this story. It has it all, friendship, love and a mystery who done it. So when you add all those together you have a story that you can forget yourself in and the world around you while you get involved with the characters story.
Quinn is going through a rough time. When Quinn and his wife went through a tragedy she sought comfort with someone else. She cheated on Quinn and he married for life. He took his vows seriously. Now with being separated so he can clear his head, he's wondering if maybe he should move on. It's hard to look toward the future when you are still living in the past.

Lacey had a horrible thing happen to her and she left the town where she grew up because she needed a fresh start and to start to try to heal. Renting a lake house will give her the peace and time she needs. Until she meets Quinn. Quinn just happens to be her landlord and lives right above her in his own apartment. Lacey is determined to keep him as just a landlord and then she has nothing else to do with him.
Watching the story unfold between these two was so sweet. They weren't looking for anything or anyone and a friendship formed and then it just start blossoming day to day. Loss can bring people together and I believe someone above was watching over them because, without a little fate, they may have never found what they both were looking for. I was surprised when a twist would form in the story because I thought I had it all figured out and something else would pop up. I love when a story keeps me guessing.

This is my first time reading anything by Beth Rinyu and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this great story. Beth Rinyu has given us a story that will suck you in from start to finish and then will leave you wanting more from the author. This story has everything in it from suspense, drama, love, angst, passion, heartache ,friendship.mystery , loss, and some great passion. The characters are well developed and this story isn't like any I've ever read before. This is Quinn and Lacey's touching story. Quinn is a broken man and he hurts because of the loss of his child and his marriage and specially when his wife turns to another. So Quinn decides he needs time away from his wife to just think thing over and to figure out what he needs to do next. Then there's beautiful Lacey and she is fighting her own demons of loss and some battles to figure out ,just as she's moving into Quinn's rental unit .These two people form a beautiful relationship ,and as it turns into a specially between these two 'I really liked Quinn and Lacey alot but as for Quinn's ex wife I totally disliked her so much that I wanted to punch her out a couple of times. There is so many twists in this touching story that it will have you screaming for more The emotions in this story will have you feeling like your on a roller coast ride to hell waiting to see what's going to happen to this wonderful couple. I could go on and tell you more about this touching story ,but that would spoil it for you. i highly recommend that you read this touching story ,because you won't be disappointed.

Beth Rinyu is one of my favorite authors. I have all of her book and they are all spectacular. I knew this one wouldn't be any different. I loved this book SOOO much. It was a story of tragedy, but by the end it was a story of hope and love.
Lacey had everything she could have ever wanted. She had a wonderful husband that she loved with all of her heart. Lacey had no idea that her perfect world was about to be shattered. Her husband was murdered right in front of her and instead of putting her out of her misery she was spared. Lacey was broken and had given up on life. She was terrified of everyone and everything until she met her landlord Quinn.
Quinn was a detective and knew tragedy all too well. He and his wife were trying to fix their broken marriage after the loss of their son. Quinn turned to drinking and had no hope on things getting better until the day Lacey moved in. On that day Quinn and Lacey both realized they shared more in common than they thought.
I absolutely loved this story and shed a few tears. It was beautifully written and I was so happy with how the book ended. I don't know how Beth Rinyu does it, but she knows how to draw the reader in from the very first page. I could not put this down and stayed up all night to finish it. I didn't think Beth's books could get any better, but she proves me wrong every time. This book was reviewed for HeadTripping Books by Leandra

I am a fan of Beth Rinyu, but this book was different to anything that I have read of hers previously. This book is not only a beautiful heartwarming romance, but its also has elements of suspense and mystery. At several points in this story I had tears in my eyes, its such a heart breaking and heartwarming journey.
Quinn and Lacey have both suffered heartbreak. Lacey is renting the lower level of Quinn's house with her dog Gus, they strike an unlikely friendship. They have both lost those they loved in difficult circumstances. As they heal, their friendship that started with a sharing of grief, deepens and they both must learn to trust in love again.
There are so many twists and turns in this book, secrets and revelations that threaten the happiness that Lacey and Quinn have found with each other.
The characters are likable and relate-able. Anyone who has lost someone they love, can relate to the loss that both Quinn and Lacey have suffered. The story line was extremely heartfelt and well written. I was completely drawn into this book right from the start its an engaging and enthralling read.
This book was an amazing read, it didn't disappoint, I would not hesitate in recommending it.

I have been highly anticipating this book & it did NOT disappoint me! Mrs. Rinyu has created a book full of suspense, drama, love, angst & passion! These characters are very well developed & the story is like no other I've read.

Quinn is broken & outraged over the loss of his child & marriage! After his wife turns to another, Quinn decides to spend time away from her to figure things out. Lacey is fighting through her own loss & battles when she moved into Quinn's rental. They build a beautiful friendship that starts to develop into more. I love them so much! I dislike Quinn's ex very very much! I could've jumped in the book several times & slapped her silly!

There were so many twists in the story that it leaves you guessing & on the edge for a lot of the book! I love that about a good suspense! There were a lot of tender moments as well!

Can Lacey escape her past or will it come back to ruin her future? Is Quinn destined to work out his marriage or is Lacey his new destiny? I highly recommend this book! You won't be disappointed!

What a beautiful story of such intense emotions. Grief is a hard emotion to write for anyone, but Beth blew this out of the ballpark. Lacey and Quinn are grieving for their own losses, but the process is what helps heal both characters. Their loneliness is palpable and their friendship blooms into a world of starting over. The path is not easy for these two, but with their renewed strength, they have gained, from being friends, grows stronger after being too scared to move on. Their love for one another is enduring and written with absolute care as not to tarnish their love for their lost loves.

This isn't all hearts and flowers, there's also some twists and turns that create trouble for Lacey and Quinn. They cry with each other and over each other. The banter between these two will make you laugh and smile. And danger does come along the way and each must save the other.

I loved, loved this book. It exceeded my expectations and completely hooked me into Quinn and Lacey's story. It was an emotional and physical roller coaster of a ride as this is a clear demonstration that life doesn't always go to plan can be messy.

Both Quinn and Lacey have experienced tragic and heart wrenching loss that has left them trying to find their way back. Lacey's husband was murdered in front of her, leaving her vulnerable and anxious as she hides from the world to cope with her grief. Quinn's baby son died too young, leaving Quinn and his wife, Sara to deal in different ways, with Sara choosing an affair as her coping mechanism, leaving Quinn devastated on all sides.

Whilst the suspense elements kept me on the edge of my seat, it was the emotion and the way it was portrayed that captured my attention and kept me hooked. Brilliantly written in a way that was both exciting and sensitive.

A right to remain by Beth Rinyu

This story has so many hidden meanings that I suppose each reader can take as they see fit. It is a story of survival, instincts and absolute true love. I read this story at the right time in my life and this helped me to overcome certain things that are going on my life right now.
The story is very well written and is clearly written from the heart and sole of this author and she deserves a lot of credit for the words written down in this book. There are some fabulous twists and turns that you don't see coming but makes the story even more beautiful than it already is!
The characters are well written and clearly thought out with a great understanding of each of them both in the present and what they have gone through.
I will absolutley be on the look out for more work from this author.

Outstanding romantic suspense story. Lacey and Quinn captured my heart right from the start. With completely different heartaches they were two souls trying to overcome their immense losses. Incredible character development.
Loved how the plot twists and turns as the suspense builds, yet underneath it all is a "fall in Love romance." Absolutely hooked - Could not stop reading.
And What an ending!!!!!

ERIN'S REVIEW
4 STARS

This story was full of emotional upheaval, loss, and pain. At the same time, it has a powerful tone of hope and forgiveness. Both characters have suffered through devastation and betrayal. Past experiences have made them both more aware of what is worth fighting for. Lacey and Quinn develop an amazing connection. Their chemistry starts slow and sensual and ends in a raging inferno. I loved the storyline. It flowed effortlessly. I loved how the characters interacted and helped each other to believe in themselves and in love again.

I enjoyed the story and the characters a lot in A Right to Remain. I loved Quinn & Lacey's friendship turned relationship and totally understood how the two connected. Most of the book I couldn't put down. Towards the end the mystery and suspense really picked up. It had nothing to do with the author. I adore all of Beth Rinyu's work but I am just not a fan of the mystery/crime/suspense novels. I started to just want to finish and see how the characters end. Beth's writing is on point as usual. I loved her characters but this one just wasn't for me.

I give A Right to Remain 3 stars.
