Tolle, verständliche Übertragung der Bibel.
Top Story. Besonders der Teil mit der Auferstehung der Hauptfigur. Klasse Forshaddowing in der ersten Staffel.

Finde nur leider keine eindeutigen Stellen zu Homosexualität und Sex vor der Ehe. Daher ein Stern Abzug.

Sonst top.

About the Bible, or The Amazon Order That Changed My Life

At the end of my master's I figured I didn't know anything about Christianity born & growing up in Germany and bought an adorable children's bible. I didn't really know what Christmas is, the basic parting into the Old and New Testament,...

In May 2020 I felt ok to go for the adult bible. My order also contained a children's version for the Quran and a book by Buddhist thay Thich Nhat Hanh for children. I actually considered buying a cheaper edition of the HFA bible that was ugly (like this crossroad one) thinking it's just one in the things one maybe should have tried in their life but then I'd discard it.

The bible spoke so much to me.

I was very surprised and amazed by Jesus how direct, honest, and sharp He was! I read the New Testament over that summer and remember finishing the (struggling) revelation book in Munich and then starting the Old Testament on a sunny September noon at Isar. It was further exciting to read the actual passages I've only heard before like genesis or Adam and Eve for the first time!

From the children's bible end of 2019, I got baptized this year and changed my 10y past in business & tech to studying Protestant & Islamic Theology anew. I love the bible, God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit!

In business terms, Jesus is the single source of truth for Christians and the bible the SSOT for Jesus.

The bible is basically a mini library of many books of different genres like poems with the psalms, "fantasy" like the revelation,... The Luther bible contains 66 books, 39 in the Old and 27 in the New Testament.

It's kinda a gift to be Native German in that sense. One in the key points of the reformation was "sola scriptura" by scripture alone and Luther's translation together with bookprint technology made the word of God super accessible than before.

Stuttgart my home is further home to the professional Protestant and Catholic bible societies in Germany (Deutsche Bibelgesellschaft and Bibelwerk). The biblia hebraica stuttgartensia published by the former is the Hebrew base text of the Old Testament for bible scholars worldwide. Though I cannot imagine a Swabian pronouncing :D

Apparently, the bible is translated in 3235 languages (missing around 4000, would have to ask what the definition is).

Choosing the right translation is key, like you wouldn't want to read Harry Potter in a very old language. These are the translations I know so far and can recommend:

German

- Hoffnung für alle (HFA): the pretty softcover version :D, it's very good for a start in a relatively modern language that is published by Biblica (international bible society) and that I got recommended by Daniel!

- Luther (LUT): I look it up online to compare with the HFA that is a bit further translated

- Elberfelder (ELB): one in the closest translations and grateful for the Studienbibel version (with additional information on history, geography, overviews etc.) I got for my baptism, also a very pretty matte black version

- Neue Genfer Übersetzung (NGÜ): also a trusted translation I got recommended, sometimes I also look this up - generally, you can look up any translation and compare with one click

- BasisBibel (BB): my fav pastor really likes this new and plain translation incl. additional info around, looks stylish outside

- Willkommen daheim: is not a bible translation but kinda reads like the New Testament as a novel, got it gifted for my baptism by Holger from Berliner Dom

English:

- New International Version (NIV): I got it recommended by Ethan :-) and somehow found a children's version with illustrations and colorful fonts in a Christian bookstore in Istanbul (that I then gave to my cousin and her British bf :D)

- The Message (MSG): I didn't like it at first because it was very far from any other translation but then the yt algorithm had me stumble upon an interview with Bono and the translator Eugene Peterson, followed further works by Eugene Peterson, and am stunned - it's a very moving translation imo

Vietnamese:

- I got this one gifted by Kien <3 whose family is Catholic Vietnamese in Germany and that is also listed by the German Bible Society, it's cool to improve my Vietnamese and share fav passages with my non-Christian family sometimes

My "reading plan" would be:

- read the sermon of the mount, Jesus' big and "revolutionary" sermon if you only want to read one thing of the Bible

- read the New Testament from page 1 onward

- read parts you're interested in e.g. Christmas, specific parables of Jesus, Noah's ark, Joseph the dreamer, Jona and the whale, genesis, Adam and Eve (a children's bible helps in getting an overview)

- the psalms are also a common go-to place

- Ecclesiastes is kinda philosophical

- I'm currently into the prophets

Even though I read something once doesn't mean I understood anything I think it's lifelong

Okay that was a lot and I could go on... Thank God I get to study theology now and if anyone came so far with my text, God bless you! 🤗🤍
