So we have come to the second part of this gloriously dark romance that is a modern twist on the Beauty and the Beast. Please do read Book One (Defaced) before attempting to read this book in the trilogy as you will take so much more away with you when you do.
The beautiful Lily wakes up back home in her LA apartment far away from her captor and lover Monster. Why has he sent her back? It quickly becomes apparent that danger has followed Lily home as she decides to investigate further the sex traffickers who took her initially. Will Monster protect his "flower" or has she now fulfilled her purpose now she has treated his birthmark.
This is a shaping up to be a great trilogy and this second book really cranks up the tension now that the scene has been set. Yes, it is a very dark romance that contains some very steamy sex scenes and yes, the story is concerned with sex trafficking but there is a love story at its centre- two people finding what they didn't even know they were looking for in a very unexpected situation! Denied is much more action packed than Defaced and there isn't so much about Monsters past now that we know why his personality developed the way it did. I still found it to be a great follow on and enjoyed watching how the relationship adjusted itself to its new surroundings.
I love the way Marissa writes, her passion for her characters really shines through and she can certainly write a darn good raunchy sex scene! Just be warned that again this ends of a bit of a cliffhanger and you will want to get your hands on the final book in the trilogy asap!! Thankfully it is in the pipeline for a release in May and can already be preordered!
Many thanks to the author for providing a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
If you haven't read Defaced, please do so before reading Denied.
The very first chapter of Denied had me upset with Monster right from the start. Even though him and Lily have come to terms with everything and realized they need each other, he is once again pushing people away. But as we read more, you can see that Monster was only trying to do this to protect Lily even if it did seem somewhat harsh. After what happend at the end of Defaced, it's clear that he has made even worse enemies. Monster and Lily share a love that has shattered them both by having to be apart but evil (yes even more evil than Monster) lurks in dark waiting for them and it has let Monster know that it will take anything from him that he might care about. Lily is out for revenge on the one's that took her and plan to help the innocents that have fallen into the trafficking circle. I love how strong she is and even after all that she went through, she still has the nerves to take actions into her own hands when it seems no one else will help her.
The story is very well written, flows great and you don't miss a beat transitioning from book one to this one. Only complaint(joking) is the ending came to soon and now I need more!!!!
This book is better than the first a lot of action and accept love.
Lily aka Flower is back in U.E. But she cannot believe that her lover would want that. And Lily is so much strong she not try to get back at him instead she wants take down her captors of course a crazy idea. Merrick aka Monster is trying but he's still aching for her and now that there's a man in the picture and that she's putting herself in danger. He fly to U.E. and try to make her some sense.
Sparks flow and bang they bang!! kkkk. Their love is so cute and beautiful, Lily show her feelings true and Monster just want her safe. I totally agree with him but they should do together. Fight. Bury the past and make a new life.
A lot happen. And kinda expected 'couse they were facing the enemy. Can't wait for the next one.
I really enjoyed Denied, which is part two in the Monster Trilogy.
This is a dark and erotic romance filled with crime and danger, and continues the story we encounter in part one, Defaced, which had a strong Beauty and the Beast feel to it.
Although Denied does fill you in on some of the things that took place in Defaced, I strongly recommend you read these in order, as I feel you will get the most out of them that way, as we mostly get to know about the main characters, Lily and Monster in part one.
Denied carries on where Defaced left off, and we are taken on another tense and action packed ride that is likely to have you loving and hating Monster in equal measure.
Oh my, that ending! I need more now!
I would like to thank the author for a copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely loved reading this book! I waited so long to see what would happen between Monster and Lily. After everything Monster and Lily went through in the first book Defaced the only way Monster knows to keep his flower safe is to send her back home were she will be safe away from his dark dangerous world...or so he thinks! Lily wakes up at home alone and feels angry, hurt and betrayed she decides she's going to get her life back and go after the people who hurt her before they come for her. When she enlists the help of another male, will Monster finally come out of the darkness to claim what is his?? The storyline is great!! Very exciting and keeps you on edge the whole time!!! I finished reading in 4 hours it was that good!!
Monster has sent Lily back to her life in America to protect her. It's for her own safety he tells himself. That is not how Lily sees it. This second book in the series is just as good and interesting as the first. There is a lot of action and steamy romance. You will want to read the first book Defaced first and then start this one. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Action packed fast paced read. Heart broken after being unceremoniously dumped back in her apartment Lily has to figure out how to go on with her life. Your heart will race as Lily takes on the men who abducted her all those weeks ago. Will she get the justice she seeks? Will she ever see Monster again? I highly recommend you read and find out.
Denied can only be described as action, action, action. I had to put my tablet down to relieve the tension created by the plot. If you guessed that Monster sent Lily home in this second installment of the Monster trilogy, you'd be correct. Though the story is so much more than how she adapts to the change in circumstances. Let's just say, she doesn't go quietly into the night. Now she's on a mission. Being let go actually angers her, but not necessarily for the reasons you might think.
I have to report that Denied is better than Defaced, which is a difficult task to pull off for a writer. Marissa Farrar takes the readers left, right and sideways like the Whirl-a-Gig l used to ride at the fairgrounds. There is no way you will be able to predict what will happen next. Hang on and try not to squish your friend on the side.
This is the second book in the trilogy and it's definitely exciting!
After everything Monster went through to get Lily to him, he now feels she will be safer away from him. So he returns her to her former life without consulting her about it first. Things with Monster's rivals are hearing up and they are not happy with certain events that transpired. They're out to hurt Monster any way they can and if that means getting to Lily, that's what they'll do. This book is action packed and suspenseful, with some twists thrown in as well. I'm looking forward to reading the third and final book.
There's tons of action in this book. Monster sent Lily away to keep her safe from his enemies, but she manages to cause heaps of trouble on her own so he has to go get her and make her see reason. The story went by really fast for me and I finished it in one sitting.
This book has A HUGE cliffhanger and makes me want to start book 3 immediately.
I kind of want to smack Monster sometimes, but I kind of want to hug him too. He's frustratingly trying to keep Lily safe the only way he knows how. Love the story and hoping for an HEA in book 3!
Could not put this down! I am very glad I have the whole trilogy because it is another cliffhanger which I hate.
Wow...the suspense throughout was palpable. Can’t believe the lengths Monster goes to so Lily will hate him and start a new life. He decides to help her track down the traffickers that have caused her and many other women such pain. But things do not turn out in their favor when the man wanting to kill Monster finds him first.
Ohmygoodness! Great read! This is book 2 in The Monster trilogy. It is most definitely a Psychological thriller with twists & turns, making it a page turner! I am so deep into the storyline I hated to stop, but wanted to leave review before starting on next book. Excellent storyline with tons of suspence, thrills, & loads of steamy sex...need to rush back to book three!! Highly recommend this series!
I found it boring to be honest and quickly flipped through. The good thing was i had gotten the full series as a bundle on KU, so i ended up just quickly skimming through all of the books so i could hopefully find some of the darkness that was meant to be it. P.S I found barely any - yes to being kidnapped in this book, it follows through actually for the others, a bit of kidnap her and a bit there and a bit everywhere, before being rescued by Monster/Merrick as he renames himself.
It's a very good trilogy. I read the first one, and I was speechless. I enjoy the twisted tale of Beauty and the Beast. It was a flawless writing style, and her characters are in depth. It is a twisty, dark romantic thriller. This author gave me my first experience of this type of genre. And honestly, I can't get enough. I definitely will read book 3 now. It's an excellent trilogy. I was flipping through the pages to see the ending.
It first I would have given it a 4 stars but like the first book something drew me into loving this book like the first book. Monster took her into America to be safe but instead she went into the traffickers and was not safe. and now there is a nother villain.
Monster returns Lily but she can’t let it go. She hates him for returning her and now with no one to believe her, she sets her sights on tracking down those who kidnapped her in the first place. She puts herself and her neighbour in trouble so will monster come back to help her?
Monster was determined to fight to keep Lily and him safe even though she caused the extra danger. Once Monster realized the way he was raised was not love he was able to believe in respecting others. Lot of suspense.
3.5 STARS! Great second book to this series. When Monster realizes he's made a mistake by implementing Lily's return to the states he can't get her back fast enough but his enemy has a different plan in mind.
My only issue was that the author couldn't keep her timeline straight. In book 1 it was clear that 2-3 months had passed but in book 2 it was stated that only 3-4 weeks had gone by. Other than that it was a decent book.
They are both doing stupid things and it all ends in a great big mess that seems to mean horrible things for Lily. I'm frustrated with the direction and all the angst this is causing. I'm not looking forward to what comes next...it doesn't seem like it'll be happy.
This series was one that I thought I would love. It was dark, had a sacred MC and a shy but strong FC. BUT i really needed more. I wanted more of everything. Maybe I am just being picky but i felt like we were missing more.
Denied is book 2 of the Monster trilogy a dark and erotic romance with some crime and danger thrown in. Carrying on from book 1:
Monster is concerned for Lily’s safety and decides he must do what is best for her, to keep her safe he must send her away, somewhere no one will find her even though it will break his heart. The problem is though, will Lily agree with his decision.
Lily wakes up and finds herself back in her old apartment, looking around and taking in her surroundings she is angry that Monster has yet again taken her against her will she didn’t want to leave him, didn’t want to go back to her old life, but he gave her no choice. Heartbroken and alone Lily planes her revenge on the traffickers that kidnapped her, and with the help of her neighbour she sets out to track them down.
Denied is a great continuation of this story, lots of action to keep you on the edge of your seat. Now onto book 3 Delivered, can’t wait to see what happens next. 5*
I received this as an arc from Marissa herself in exchange for an honest review. After Monster makes an impossible choice that throws her world into chaos, Lily finds herself back in America. Unable to allow what happened to her to go unpunished, and riddled with survivors guilt, Lily decides she needs to track down the traffickers who took her. Wow. Another fantastic read from Marissa. I loved the story and the characters. Lily is still my favourite character. I wanted to. like Monster but part of me didn't like him for what he did to Lily. And wow didn't see that coming. And wow what an ending. Can't wait for next part. This is a must read and I would highly recommend this book. Definitely worth more than 5 *.
Part two carries straight on from the end of book one - so please read Defaced first.
Doing what he believes is best for Lily, Monster has broken his heart but he cannot keep her close due to the high threat of his enemies.
Lily is not pleased at being 'dumped' back in her apartment. A meddling neighbour does not make her life easy and thanks to his intervention the police don't believe her trafficking claims. There is only one choice, Lily must take care of matters herself....
Good job Monster is having her tailed .....
What a thrilling follow up to Defaced. Glad book three is available as I would have been left with a massive book hanger over after that cliffhanger!
