Drawing Lori Wick's story of 1870s California to its captivating conclusion, the novels of The One Forever Promise follow the fortunes of the last two members of the Patrick Donovan family. In Sean Donovan, Patrick's only son abandons all he has loved - home, family, and God - in a desperate flight that nearly ends at the gallows. Rescued by a marriage of convenience, Sean's repentant heart just might change his new bride's mind when it comes to loving him. In Donovan's Daughter, Sean's younger sister Marcail is also determined to escape Santa Rosa. But when the young woman is thrust into a small-town scandal that threatens her brand new teaching career, she must choose whether to hold on to her dreams or choose an unexpected path. Historically accurate and uplifting, here are two masterful tales of love, faith, and courage in early California.
FROM THE PUBLISHER: Lori Wick is known as one of the most versatile Christian fiction writers on the market today. From pioneer fiction to a series set in Victorian England to a contemporary novel, Lori's books (over 5 million in print) continue to delight readers and top the Christian bestselling fiction list. Lori and her husband, Bob, live in Wisconsin with "the three coolest kids in the world."
Sean and Charlie's story was ok. Still tacky and far-fetched. The "law" that saved Sean's life seemed more like a "Oh no! I've gotten myself into a really tight situation, how can I get out of it!?!" than a realistic plot twist. I did rather enjoy their half of the novel, seeing as this was my first Lori Wick book and all. Unfortunately, things went from bad to worse. Marcail was so sickeningly good and pretty that I almost died on the spot. Bedsides, what is the reality of two children in the same family being forced to marry, by obscure situations, a person they hardly know and do not love? Rather contrived.
