I had been assigned to read portions of this book, and I did so begrudgingly. I did not read what I was reading, but let my eyes scan to tell the Program Director I had done my duty. However, after encouragement from a thorn in my side, I decided I would take it seriously.

Praise the Lord for thorns in the side.

I cannot praise this book enough. It changed my view, answered my questions, clarified my vision, and drew me closer to Christ. But I’ll talk about what book reviews are supposed to talk about.

I was surprised at the simplicity of Froom’s voice, considering he was delving into such theology. I found it quick and easy to read, though I had to force myself to put the book down to think. To soak it up. When I was just about to lose his train of thought, he would throw in a story or metaphor of some sort and all would become clear. As soon as I was starting to get uncomfortable with where he was going he would make an appeal. Spot on timing.

I tend to avoid the kind of books that promise a lot, because they rarely come through (in my limited experience). However, I dare say that every single aspect of the Holy Spirit was addressed (albeit, the larger spectrum, for anything of the Bible is inexhaustible), and every single one of my questions was answered, the theological and the practical. Want to know what all the symbols of the Spirit mean? Want to know if the Spirit is “it” or “He” or “She”? Want to know how to be filled? Want to know why you should know how to be filled? Want to know His (oops, no more surprise) purpose? His power? HIS IMPORTANCE? -hyperventilates-

The book is organized so as to be a good resource, and it is saturated with Scripture so as to be rather accurate. Froom’s extensive knowledge of Scripture and the writings of Ellen White, combined with his excellent exegesis, makes this book a must read for anyone wishing to study the Holy Spirit.

There are two or three points where what he says cannot be proven (such as Paul being the twelfth disciple), but it is never about the Holy Spirit Himself. Also, there were maybe two parts where he could have cut a chapter short by a page or two. This is me racking my brain for negative things to say.

I could give an outline of the book, telling all the answers to the questions you have (or should have) about the Holy Spirit. After all, I kinda freaked out when I got to my favorite part. But I’ll let you take the time to read it. Do it. Really.

Basically, the book is life-changing because of the truths that it holds, bringing attention to portions of Scripture much neglected. It is a must read for any serious Christian, irrelevant of your church of choice. I’m going to read it at least another three times, going slower.

Read and be ye changed!

I was quite surprised to find what I had come to know about the Holy Spirit in the nine years since my conversion was right here in this rather short read.

The Holy Spirit was an essential part of my conversion. It led me but was illusive and mysterious at times. for those who want to know more, read the book. I found it well worth the read. Had I done it sooner, it may have helped me realize things more quickly than I did.

Leroy's son gave me a copy of his fathers library of work in 1980 as a gift. this was the very first book I chose to read of that library. I found the author to be a kindred spirit, though he a much better wordsmith.

I have been blessed to have been influenced by others this author has blessed. perhaps this is why I so readily identified with his work.

Though i have changed my views on somethings through the years, my understanding of the Holy Spirit's work so well outlined in this book has not.

LE Froom provides a great glimpse into early Adventist theology on the Holy Spirit. While many of his anecdotal illustrations lack punch, his theological observations and analogies are very valuable. He also explores many of Ellen White's writings and her theology as well. Interestingly I found positive allusions within the language to ML Andreasen's theology--an opponent of Froom's during the QOD controversy of the 1950s.

Froom is generous but extremely cautious--and eve contradictory in places--when referring to the emotional/supernatural aspects of the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the power of Pentecost. His writing highlights the eternal struggle of Adventists understand their desperate need of the Holy Spirit but their extreme--occasionally even irrational--fear of becoming fanatics.

A book well worth the read.

This is a great tool for learning about the Holy Spirit. This book, along with the bible, changed my life for the better after reading, and re-reading along side the bible. Great find I made in Lawrence, Michigan's old basement library back in 1996. I believe this to be a great educational resource on the Holy Spirit and His unique role in our lives. Peace is in Christ....
