I love this series. And so do my boys. As we started this the author mentions that Titian was born in 1488 and one of my sons asked, "Is that the same time as Michelangelo? During the Renaissance?" It does a mom's heart good to hear them make connections like that.
This series is great because the art shown is edited for children. Titian painted a lot of nudes and the author acknowledges that and says basically that 'the artist painted a lot of pictures that are for grown ups only so we'll just look at the PG ones'.
We learn a bit about the artist, about the paintings and the artists around them. There are several examples of their work and sometimes that of other artists. It's just the right amount of information for the elementary set.
There are silly cartoons on some of the pages. Some parents may be bugged by that, but I don't mind at all. My kids enjoy them and pick up these books to read on their own. Yippee for cartoons, I say.
This is a series (and the composers one too) that I try to buy whenever I can. Well worth owning.
