A great story about dealing with everyday issues like divorce and jealousy with a nice magical slant. I felt like it dealt with real life in a way similar to Smile and other comics for older elementary and middle grades but in a way that was more accessible for younger elementary kids. Excited to get the series and read the first one too, it was a little hard coming in on book 2, they didn't re-explain very well how her powers work.

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Great for kids!

This is certainly for younger readers as everything is spelled out, but there is some heart here that makes it stand out. I think the story had a great message: When you're acting ugly towards others, you are the true ugly one, and don't judge people from appearance alone. You never know what someone's going through or who may become a great friend one day.

2.5

I hadn't read the first book, but I picked up the story quickly.

The second book in this series. Cici and her sister Sophia are becoming more used to the routine of weekends with Dad, weekdays with Mom, but that doesn’t make it easier. A new girl, whose father is dating Cici’s mom, comes to school, and because she is jealous, Cici puts her fairy powers to work to make mischief.

Again, we all liked this one. Cici learns a good lesson at the end.

⭐️⭐️⭐️/ 5 Stars (from a 9-year-old’s perspective)

My daughter liked the illustrations but wasn’t into the story. She said the storyline was just “meh” and overall the book felt average to her. Not one of her favorites, but the artwork was a highlight.

Enjoyable family/school story of a young latina with growing magical powers. She has learned how to change how people look, but for her eyes only. It makes her feel slightly better to turn the three popular girls into chickens and her divorced father into a grumpy bear but it doesn't improve her life. Her abuela encourages her to use her powers in a more positive way...

This is a cute graphic novel about Cici, a young girl who also happens to be a fairy. One fairy power that she has is that she sees people differently. She sees them the way she feels about them, her mother is an octopus and sometimes a witch, her father is a bear, the popular girls at school are chickens and so on. When she uses her powers and destroys the doll belonging to a girl at school who she thinks is a princess, as well as making her ugly, her Abuela explains to her about making good choices and not being mean or evil. Cici learns from her mistake and makes a new friend in the process. The graphics are fun, colourful and easy to see detail, perfect for younger readers.

This is a great book for early readers (gr. 2 - 4), especially girls. I received a copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Cici is getting use to being a fairy and she really wants to start using her powers. After seeing how things seem to come easily to the popular girls, she uses her powers to play a trick on one of them. Is her perception of these girls reality or is there more to them than meets the eye? Young readers will relate to Cici's dilemma and cheer her on as discovers appearances aren't always what they seem.

Cici struggles with her new powers as well as constant change at her house. Her parents have recently divorced and her mom is dating the dad of the most popular girl in school! Meanwhile, her grandmother coaches her on using her powers wisely and for good.
Super positive messages here without feeling like it's preachy. Perfect for the rainbow fairies crowd as a readalike.

I really like how she learned more about her powers and that how she perceives people will keep changing.
