Great Source Education Group. (2006). Sciencesaurus: A student handbook. Boston, MA: Houghton-Mifflin Publishing.
Reviewed By: Allison Lupton
Reference Type: Handbook
Reading Level: 5th-8th
Call Number: 500
Cost: $23.96
Description: This handbook may look like a textbook, but proves otherwise. The best part about it besides the many pictures, is the way the illustrations help to explain the concepts presented.
Relevance/Relationship: While there are plenty of science reference books in the collection, this one presents information in way that students would want to read, and could read, due to the reading level.
Purpose: The purpose of this handbook would be to help all students understand science- especially those that may be intimidated by a classic textbook.
Validity: This book was recommended by the National Science Teachers Association.
Format: Print
Arrangement/Presentation: This handbook has nine chapters as well as an almanac, science timeline, biographies, and glossary.
Diversity: This handbook does not necessarily address diversity as the others I have reviewed did, however, I still believe that it would be a great resource for all students. The reading level is one that I believe even some of our lower level readers could feel comfortable with.
