The general information in this book seemed like a condensed version of the information in Floor Exercise, like preparation for a competition, wardrobe, and men's vs women's events.

There were a few new aspects in this book compared to the other two I've read so far, Vaulting and Floor Exercise: there was more specific mention in this book of the other gymnastics disciplines (rhythmic, trampoline, and acrobatics), and the competition section in this book included specifics about what to do in the time leading up to the competition and how long to practice your routine and moves ahead of the big day.

Balance Beam also talks about a few mounts, walks, and specific moves. I was surprised it did not mention anything about turns that are done on the beam. There was however a set of detailed instructions for a warm-up hurdler's stretch which I know is useful but seemed out of place.

They also used a few photos from college gymnastics, but none of the books so far have mentioned college gymnastics as an option. (The Floor Exercise book did mention the Amateur Athletic Union and the Vaulting book the less competitive Xcel program, instead of focusing only on USA Gymnastics and Junior Olympic training. I know most people dream of the Olympics, but it only happens for a few people and there are other options for less stress, time, and money.)
