Hands down one of the best choose your own adventure books that I have read. This series is amazing! I am currently reading these to my library classes and they love them! They are mature, but clean. No goofy endings like in the goosebumps choose your own adventure books. Very Very Impressed.
I think I am not a fan of choose your own adventure stories. I wanted more meat to the story, more explanation of the people and history of Alcatraz, as well as the ghosts. Instead, I was left dissatisfied by the short stories I followed and the brief descriptions of the people who lived and died in Alcatraz. For reluctant readers, I can imagine this is a great format, but it wasn't for me.
Oh man, I read this a couple times making different choices and each one was exciting and nicely creepy. I think the creep-factor is what makes the grade levels so high on this one. I definitely think kids would like this book, and there's so many ways to read it so each time could be different!
Read as a possibility for Summer Reading giveaways.
It's been ages since I've read a choose your own adventure story, but this was fun. I liked that it pulls in a lot of real life history and has some great resources if you want to learn more about Alcatraz.
Very good book,I like you your on an adventure that you choose what will happen, and you’re still learning about Alcatraz and how people tried to escape.
The You Choose books are so fun. We enjoy reading them as a family and see who can live the longest. The photos and history of Alcatraz makes you want to do more research and visit.
I've always loved choose your own adventure books. I enjoyed the setting of Alcatraz. Didn't enjoy that so many of the endings included being murdered by ghosts.
