Werewolf Sophie Lennox barely survived the Alberich attack that left her wounded emotionally and physically. She’s not sure how she survived the Alberich, a creature thought long-dead, and one of the most savage predators werewolves have ever faced. Trent Clayton is a werewolf whose own run-in with the Alberich a hundred years before took his wife and nearly destroyed him. Now, he must help Sophie work through her traumatized state and reveal to Sophie that she possesses an unusual gift—one that connects her to him. Broken Heart is right in the vicious sights of the Alberich, but the creatures have never faced a whole town of parakind willing to defend their borders, and each other, with fur, fang, magic, swords, guns, and zombies. With two werewolves leading the charge, the citizens of Broken Hear must win the battle against the Alberich. Or die (um, again) trying.

If you’re writing the 13th book in a series, you should know how to set things up, so they come together well. This one and those several before it come off as disjointed, incomplete novellas. They’re riddled with odd mistakes and seem more like the ideas for stories I get just as I’m about to doze off and then have forgotten in the morning! The only good thing I can say about this novella is that it adds to the worldbuilding and helps the overall arc of the story progress. But that’s all. Because besides that, the characters are barely fleshed out. They will do all they can to not work on their issues and quickly fall in love. Not good enough for me!
I ordered this from Amazon, and it appeared to be a self-published edition. The story was typical Bardsley - quite enjoyable with several witty passages and quick to read. But it needed a more thorough editor - there were lots of distracting errors (grammar, spelling, repeated passages); it might have worked better as a short story. The extra materials at the end were fairly interesting, offering different iterations of the story and some deleted or re-worked arcs.
There is a paragraph in the author's note that promotes "Your Lycan or Mine" as a novel about Ren and Meckenzie. But when I ordered that (again, an apparently self published edition) from Amazon, the story was actually a reworked version of the Soul Shifter Ash story from "Broken Heart Tails", with a love story thrown in involving Dante from Damian's story. I generally liked the changes, but was disappointed because I had expected a new story.
Hopefully, these 2 titles will be re-released with some tighter editing. I'm a still a fan!
This wasn't 162 pages. At least not Lycan on the Edge it stopped at around 67% . There was a small story included which was a little novella written a bit ago about Meckenzie and Ren called The Early Girl Get the Blood Wolf. She sorta wrote that little novella into Lycan on the Edge but also included the original story. It's no longer available which is why she intertwined the 2 stories.
I was sorta disappointed with this story a little. I liked Trent a lot. He was a really great guy. A healer and wow thats cool. He takes others pain and that takes a special kind of strength. He's sweet and funny too. I liked Sophie but towards the beginning of the book I didnt like her much because of how she acted for one. She really didnt deal with her issues and pretty much ignored things and didnt acknowledge it and refused his help. I started to like her about 3/4 the way through. She started to own things and gained the strength and courage to face her fear and get the job done. I liked how they were together. They really worked even if she was really stubborn about it. Ok what really ticked me off about the book was that it ended and I thought...wait that's it? I was expecting more. It sorta ended abruptly and although it ended happily it felt off.
This book was cheaper than her others but not by much. This wasn't worth 4.99. I'm sorry it just wasn't. This series has been a hit/miss for me. However, I kept buying them because I was already invested with the story and characters. I feel kind of cheated. The other books were 6.99 and 7.99 on a couple. I know there is a book 14 and honestly I will probably buy it BUT not for awhile. I might even wait to see if it gets put on KU which she sometimes does or goes on sale. I'm contented enough at this point to wait for awhile. Its 2 characters I want to read eventually.
First of all, the Ren and Meckenzie story within the story was way more compelling than the main story, and then it didn't even get an ending! Like what in the serious f$&*?!?! Second of all...no I guess that's it. Why tell a story within a story and then not bother to end it?!? I really liked this series up until whatever ones came after Damien's book, but now the writing is just getting trite AND careless. There are also a lot of poor formatting issues in the last three or four books. This Kindle copy I read had two identical chapter tens one right after the other, so for all I know the author DID end the Ren story and it just got left out because of the crappy formatting. The Ren story gets 4 stars and then I subtracted a star for the main story, another star for the formatting issues, and another star for not giving one of the two stories an ending. This book just sucked.
This book seems to be falling short again. It is still more cohesive than book 11, but the story isn't great, it's really short, and still suffers from lots of typos and errors. Even in the chapter list there is a chapter listed that isn't in the book and all the page numbers are off. Honestly the series has sort of fell on its ear since she went to the new publishing style. I continue to read in hopes it will get back to where the first 10 books were, but I'm really starting to lose hope with this author/series.
Danger, violence, sex, love, what more could a werewolf expect in the magically hidden town of Broken Heart? For Sophie, she is hiding from the world, suffering nightmares from her near death 6 months earlier by the hands of an alberich, a werewolf killing creature made from clay. The evil bitch witch Ren has awoken the last 5 alberich that were created by an angry god who wanted to prevent a prophecy from being fulfilled. Trent is also a survivor of an alberich attack 100 years previous. Together he and Sophie are the pair made to destroy. Sophie can kill the alberich, but Trent must heal her after every swipe. The entire town is depending on them to save all the supernaturals who live there. Maybe Sophie and Trent will get their happy ever after, but only the fates know for sure.
This is a part of the Broken Heart series and it you get to meet Sophie Lennox and Trent Clayton. Wow I just love this series so much. I loved getting to go back into this world and see more of Broken Heart and see more of my favorite characters that you have previously met. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
A large chunk of this story was a short story that I'd already read but just re-worked to fit into the plot of this book. It didn't work for me. It felt separate to what was actually going on and since I'd binge-read this series, I did not enjoy having to read the same story twice on two consecutive days. So this is where I've stopped reading the series.
This series is a must read! Wonderful characters that follow through out and great plot twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend this series.
Seeking revenge is seldom a wise thing. It often bites you in the butt. This is such an entertaining story. I especially liked Sophie's grandmother. Her character is hilarious. Read the story. You'll be glad you did.
I really love this series, this book needed a little bit more or better editing. Ending two chapters left some blank areas that you can find reading the ending of the book she rewrote it from. But it it still a good story and worth reading.
This book was much closer to the fun I remember from the first books, and I would have given it three stars, except for the awful editing. I kept find sections that were duplicates in the book or words left out of sentences. It left me going WTH? It throws you out of a story when you are reading and find yourself reading the same scenes over and over again. Or when you read a sentence and a key word is missing and you have to stop and figure out what the author meant to say. Honestly, I'm done at this point, and won't be getting the next book in the series.
I received Lycan on the Edge as a free copy from the author (via InstaFreebie). The gifting did not determine the review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion. Not a bad short story, but I'm not one of those readers who appreciates the slapstick-esque nature of the relationship with the Nana; too over-the-top for me. The plot was good, but not fully-developed-- an unfortunate side-effect of novellas. The book ended at 70%, then the author offered a different short story which mirrored scenes added to Lycan. A few errors in my copy, but nothing too distracting.
I have enjoyed so many of Ms. Bardsley books, but this one really had some major proofing issues. Normally this wouldn't detract too much from the story, but when a whole segment is repeated that's a problem that should have been caught!
This book could have used some editing; for example there was one chapter that was repeated twice. Other than that, it was a nice little novella. I always enjoy reading about Broken Heart, and hell, sometimes I wish I could move there.
Excellent! I love a good book with humor and mystery. Add in romance and you have an excellent story! Sophie and Trent are two werewolves who have unusual gifts which combined together will save a lot of people. We also have the evil witch and Meckenzie. This story has a twist with more romance which I enjoyed and know you will when you read this captivating story.
