This is a novella of about 35,000 words that comes between books 2 and 3 in the Brides of Belles Montagnes series.

Tony Browning has worked for the Ravenzarian royal family since he was fifteen. The day after he took over as head of security, the king's sabotaged vehicle went over a guard rail, killing all inside. Or so everyone has always believed. Tony has discovered the prince, now grown, and his nanny may have survived. He uses decades old data to try and track them down - and make up for the tragedy that has haunted him all these years..

Michaela Engel has spent eighteen years keeping Prince Nicklaus’s identity secret - and keeping him safe from the threats that haunt their every step. It's nearly time to tell her charge who he really is and return him to their homeland.

Before they can leave, Michaela and Nicklaus find themselves on the run once again. This time they find a new friend, one with a background in security, who's willing to help them stay safe. Michaela finds herself falling for Anthony, but can she trust him with her heart when they're done Protecting the Prince?

This is the same novella that was offered free to newsletter subscribers in December 2015 and January 2016.

She prefers watching NCIS to just about anything, except maybe watching Castle. She believes peanut butter M&Ms are the perfect food and Dr. Pepper should come in an IV. This is an enjoyable read and although a novella, it is tight and focused without feeling sterile and lifeless. What a happy surprise. I often avoid novellas because they seem to struggle with the innate parameters of this type of writing. Moncado could have presented a “real snooze of a book,” but with the clever way she discloses plot points and her effective sprinkling in of backstory facts previously unknown made for an interesting and fun read as well as showcasing inspiring themes.

Reflections & Snippets:
Michaela Engel and Tony (Anthony) Browning are the stars of this book. Neither are royals, but with astonishing and commendable dedication, they serve the monarchy. Although Michaela did not divulge to Nicklaus his complete history or destiny, she dedicates her life to preparing him for his future royal responsibilities.

Tony also took his royal obligations seriously, even to choosing to remain single until he definitively determined who, what, where, when, and why concerning Michaela and Nicklaus. Both of these characters do not trust in their human abilities to complete their responsibilities, but they look to God, seek His guidance, both ultimately and daily.

[Slight Spoiler] Toward the end of the book, Michaela tells how after the accident, it wasn’t her prowess that allowed them to survive, nor the plans put in place by the King. She details the heroic escape from the car and river. Apparently, she reached a point of exhaustion and felt they would die, but God provided the ability and energy to survive and make it to the safe house. Michaela stressed it was God who enabled, when strength was gone. Again and again God guided and provided. Tony frequently looked to God for direction as he sought to find out about Michaela and Nicklaus. At the end of the story, we can see these heroes are on their way to an HEA.

Although this is a short work of fiction IMO it shined above other books labeled Christian fiction, because it models for the reader a consistent and repeated picture of faith and practice. For me, this is always an attractive quality in Christian fiction.

Loved it

It was nice finding out about Nicklaus and the nanny's survival. The best part for me was Tony and his infatuation with Michelle/Michaela the nanny. Tony became real, not just a security guy. Nice change having someone other than a royal falling in love.

Protecting the Prince is the novella that comes between Winning the Queen’s Heart and Prince from Her Past, it is 2.5 in the Brides of Belles Montagnes series. In this book we get to see what really happened to Nicklaus the lost prince. We also get to learn more about Tony Browning the head of security and the nursemaid who “died” along with Prince Nicklaus
Michaela Engel has been on the run and she is tired but she knows that if she wants to protect her charge she needs to be aware and ready for anything. Michaela has been caring for Nicklaus ever since she ran away with him. However, Nicklaus is getting older and she knows that soon she will have to tell him the truth of his past and the real reason she is running.
Michaela was so amazing she worked as a single mother and left everything behind to care for Nicklaus. I was really amazed by her determination to raise him well and to protect him in everything. She was a great mother to Nicklaus even though she knew that she would have to give him up.
Tony Browning has worked for the Ravenzarian royal family since he was a young man. However, he is going to face one of his hardest missions yet, he needs to bring back the lost prince alive. I really liked Tony. He was a faithful hard worker, he understood what was important. But he was also kind and he wanted to be able to do his job well, while also living his life.
Tony and Micheale were two people who had devoted their whole lives to serve the royal family of Ravenzarian, so they don’t think twice when they were called to protect Nicklaus. But what will they do when they are no longer on the run, will they too get their happy ending.
Protecting the Prince was a great little novella! It really added to the story and helped to set up for the next book. I was really happy to see that Tony finally got his happy ending!

Protecting the Prince

I have loved every book in all the Prince and princess series. Trusting people is something that is easy from some, but when trust has been broken and the life of those you love are effected, trusting is difficult. I can't imagine being responsible for hiding someone for years to keep them alive. I've been waiting to find out if Prince Nichlaus had survived the accident years ago, since I started these series. Trusting God, faith, family, love, all grows stronger through the trails they go through in this book. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this series! Can't wait for the next book!

Protecting the Prince is yet another great read from Carol Moncado and a great addition to the Brides of Belles Montagnes Series. My favorite character created in this book by Ms. Moncado is Michaela. She is such a devoted, caring, giving, loving person! She was willing to give up everything for her charge…thinking nothing of what she had to give up of herself, but always thinking of others. This is a heartwarming story that gets you all excited for the next story in this series Prince from her Past. I can’t wait to hear the story of Prince Nicklaus and Princess Yvette. I was gifted this book and in exchange give my honest review of this book.

When I read the first book in this series, I knew there had to be more to the story and I was right.

What evil lurks in the hearts of men

Micheala had been running for the last eighteen years. She and her young charge, Nicklaus never stayed anywhere for very long for fear that those who wanted to end their lives would catch up with them. But it was time to stop running and face those who would harm them and reveal who the the three year old boy now grown into a young man really was.

This is a novella, short and sweet. It falls in between the full length novels and fills in a bit of the blank regarding the missing prince. I'm really looking forward to the next full length novel. :) This is one of my favorite series to read. Sweet, clean romance. Light Christian fiction.

In the name of love

What some people won't do others will! Sometimes you have to remove the mountain other times just go through it, like others before them. Recommended!
