He is as talented as any man who has ever stepped on a football field, but there is so much more to Jerry Rice than natural ability. In Rice, the legendary receiver, along with Sports Illustrated senior writer Michael Silver, gives the reader an intimate account of his inspiring ascent to greatness. Rice includes exclusive comments from some of football's biggest names, including 49ers passing legend Joe Montana and his All-Pro successor, Steve Young; some of Rice's most revered rivals, beginning with star cornerback Deion Sanders; and the coaches, friends, and family members who have observed Rice on a daily basis. From his backwoods upbringing in rural Mississippi, to the long hours he spent catching bricks in the relentless southern sun, to his years as a small-college phenom, to his majestic hookups with Montana and Young, to the post-football life he envisions as a family man and professional golfer, Rice discusses this extraordinary journey in all its splendor.
Jerry Rice is an American former professional football player who was a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL), primarily with the San Francisco 49ers. He is widely regarded as the greatest wide receiver in NFL history.
Great book! It's a fancy extended version of a Sports Illustrated issue solely based on Jerry Rice. This gives all the insights you'll desire into Rice's life growing up and through about 3/4 of his career and is accompanied with beautiful photography of the icon. It will sit easily on an upscale coffee table or a die hard fans man cave. The downside is that this was written while he was still playing and obviously can't speak to the major things that have happened since. There is no biography that's been written on the full life of Jerry Rice, even though there's bound to be, this suffices for now.
I was doing some spring cleaning and found this. I loved Jerry rice when I was a kid. Loved this book too. Even has powder residue on the cover from when I was in high school. Ahhh, such great memories. Great book!
A good book on Jerry Rice, informative for its size about his career up till the end of the 1995 season. Unfortunately still waiting on a complete biography/autobiography on his full career.
Firstly, this was a great book to read especially for people out there that play sports because it shows great dedication. How hard you have to work to achieve a goal in life. And also this story taught me that life is too short to waste it. The big i dea of this story is that if you have a dream or a goal in life then you should do everything and anything that it takes to achieve that goal. Jerry Rice was able to earn alot of respect on and off the field. His attitude was the key.
This book talked alot about dedication. It didnt phrase it alot in the story but the texture that was used made you think about dedication alot. Jerry Rice wasn't always the biggest player, but he had the biggest heart and there was nobody on the field that wanted to win more than him. Jerry showed me that you gotta take what you want in life because there is nobody in this world that is going to give it to you. Rice's teammates said that "he might not be the most talented kid, but he would huff and puff, and run extra laps, and do anything he could to help the team win." That means he woks harder than everybody on his team and earned their respect.
This book also talked about how hard you work when you want to achieve your goal in life. You have to be able to sacrafice for the greater goods that come later on in life. Hard work can get you through alot of things in life. Being lazy with life and you wont be feeling good about yourself. Jerry Rice was the one that sacraficed alot for the greater good which was the NFL. Depending on how bad you want it then you will do it.
Jerry Rice also taught me that life is too short for you too waste it. The way that he goes about his buisness and the way that he works showed me that you should take advantage of your life. Leave no regrets in your life. Thats what Jerry Rice did early on in his life. He made sure that he worked hard enough that he can look back and say "wow i had fun with my life."
Jerry Rice's book about his life on and off the field was amazing because he was inspirational. He showed dedication on the field and with his work ethic. Showed me how to be a leader. He earned respect from current and upcoming players and has become role models for alot of people. He left it all out on the field and made sure that he took advantage of all his oppurtunities. Jerry Rice was a constant professional in the NFL and he set the bar hiugh for alot of players trying to be just like him.
I loved how jerry rice talked about how he became a hard working football player. talked abut his dad being a brick layer and how jerry and his brother use to catch bricks that's how his hands got so strong. He also talked about haw he came from a small school Missasippy valley state a and was drafted in the 3rd round
Good read. This book gives a good overview of Jerry Rice's career. However if you have read his autobiography Rice it is very similar. Sports fans will like this.
