When Claire found out a devastating secret about her family, the famous Woodley clan, she ran straight into the arms of a criminal and disappeared for years. But now she’s desperate to escape his clutches and get back what he’s stolen from her: her child. She turns to longtime family horse master Warrick Blackwood, knowing his secrets can get her close to her target.
War doesn’t want to return to the dangerous life he left behind, even to help Claire, but he has no choice. Not only does she know the truth about his past, but he’s never been able to resist her. Her frantic attempt to save her daughter will bring them close, revealing both War’s dominant nature and his heart, but it may also destroy any hope at the future both secretly long for.

I'm not even gonna pretend that my lady parts aren't still tingling from the sexy that is War. That man is just so damn delicious. Ok, I'm calm now. But seriously... he and Claire burn it up in a mighty interesting way. He can have my trust any day he wants it lol The story is great because of the flaws in the heroes. These are not your shy wallflower and secretly proper rogue. These are people who make mistakes and who deal with the consequences as best they can. Claire is estranged from a family who loves her and is hesitant to re-enter their lives as she made many mistakes in their time apart. War works for her family and is the one person who could help her break free of the world she ran to. Their quest brings them together in a way they had longed for but never acted on before. And let me tell you, folks. Hot is an understatement. Lol This was an interesting read with great characters and excellent pacing. Looking forward to Jack's story :-p
I keep waiting to be impressed with this series, but time and time again I’m either disappointed or underwhelmed; Ruined fell within the latter category. It did feel good to FINALLY resolve the drama plot surrounding Claire. And I really liked War as a hero.
The best part of the book was the introduction of Jack Blackwood aka Captain Jack and War’s older brother. His story is next and will be the final book of the Wicked Woodleys. I’m actually looking forward to reading it because, underworld crime lord romancing a wealthy widow? Catnip alert! Hopefully Jess Michaels saved the best for last.
I received an eARC, from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review. This is book four in the "The Wicked Woodleys" series. Jess Michaels book are always good I think. They have passion, feeling and just great stories. This book is the long awaited book on Claire who has been missing from the family for a few years. This can be a standalone book but I would really read the series since they are so good and to enjoy this book better. Claire has found out some things about her family that was used against her is a way and a man has taken her child away. Now Claire is trying to get away from the criminal that has kept her away from her family and get her child back. She goes to Warrick Blackwood who has been a horse master and tries to get his help with solving her issue. War is reluctant to get back in to dangerous situations but seems to have no choice with Claire.
So this is book 4 and we finally meet Claire who has underlined every other book. I did not like her in the least. I had guessed part of the story, and just got angry at her for not asking anyone anything before she ran off. She got a happy ending.
“Since she’s been gone, Claire had obviously developed the ability to hide her emotions. In the kind of world where she had been living, she would have had to do so to survive. But in that moment after she shouted out her secret, War saw everything she’d been fighting to hide. Her pain was so clear, it might have been tattooed across her face in words like grief, terror, and anguish.”
FINAL DECISION: A satisfying resolution of the mystery regarding Claire that has dominated the Wicked Woodleys series. I absolutely loved Claire and War who are strong and compelling characters. My new all time favorite by Jess Michaels.
THE STORY: Claire Woodley made a terrible mistake two years ago. The aristocratic daughter ran off to marry a man who turned out to be a liar, a thief and extremely dangerous rogue. Avoiding her family who has been searching for her, Claire has immersed herself in the underworld where her lover lives. Finally, she has emerged and seeks the help of the Woodley horsemaster Warrick Blackwood to retrieve something that her lover stole from her. War has wanted Claire for years, even though he rejected her attempt to seduce him two years ago. Claire’s request for help requires him to confront his own past and perhaps sacrifice his future, but he cannot resist her.
OPINION: I absolutely loved this book. Claire is a woman with a scandalous past, a desperate present, and only a vague future. Throughout the series, readers have been teased with hints of what motivated Claire, what her current situation is and questions as to why she has not returned to her family. I’m pleased to say that this book provides a satisfying resolution while still providing a hot, sexy and suspenseful story. Thankfully, Michaels doesn’t make readers wait long to discover one of her big secrets. Even better, the hot romance between Claire and the man she wanted but who rejected her, War gets off to a fast and torrid start.
War becomes an intriguing hero because he is a good man who has dark secrets. This gives him a complexity that makes him interesting and worth reading about. I especially like how he orchestrates the reunion of the Woodleys. He truly cares for the family and he is a good man who is willing to risk much to help Claire. War rejected Claire for her own good once and that ended up in Claire’s running off with a con man. Now that Claire is not so innocent, War is determined not to let the possibility of being with Claire slip by him again. War is sexy, earthy and complicated.
War and Claire together are combative, emotional and a perfect pair. The two work together to solve Claire’s problem and end up discovering that their pasts have ended up making them an ideal match for one another in a way that wouldn’t have been possible before Claire’s downfall.
One of my favorite parts of the Wicked Woodleys series has been the cross-social class romances. For those who like more historically accurate romances, this may not be the story for you. This series tends more toward erotic sexual encounters and the morals of the characters feel more modern. For me, however, I love this type of historical book where the time and setting provide texture and substance to the story but where the actual execution of the story has more of a romanticized fairy tale feel to it. If I want pure historical accuracy, I read historical fiction not romance.
I enjoyed the plot of the book which was suspenseful and worked to provide an opportunity for the relationship between War and Claire to develop and deepen as te two depend upon one another and discover all the secrets each are hiding. I read through this book in record time and immediately went back to reread passages. For me, that is the primary indicator of a book that I will reread again and again in the years ahead. A book that exceeded my expectations!
WORTH MENTIONING: Oh, I can’t wait until Jack’s book. That’s how an author builds a great series by having compelling characters that demand their own stories be told.
CONNECTED BOOKS: RUINED is the fourth book in the Wicked Woodleys series. This book can be read as a standalone, but is so much more fulfilling after reading the stories of Claire’s siblings.
STAR RATING: I give this book 5 stars.
NOTE: I received an ARC of this book via Netgalley in order to provide a review. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions contained herein are my own.
Ruined #4 in "The Wicked Woodleys", but can be read as a stand alone. Finally, Claire's story! I have long awaited to learn more of the secrets she holds, and why she keeps running from her family, and I was not disappointed! Fast paced, with all passion and seduction set aside, Claire's story is devastating, secretive, powerful and compelling. Claire' discovery of her family was not only devastating but took her on a destructive path. Written with Ms. Michael's usual aplomb and seductive powers of storytelling. The characters are well developed, engaging, and intriguing. The storyline, powerful, compelling and emotional. The mystery helps build the suspense, while, learning the intricate sides of Claire and the blossoming love between herself and Warrick Blackwood aka "War", her families' horse trainer, who has secrets of his own. Together they embark on finding their HEA, reunite Claire with her family and find her truest treasure. A hot, sensual Historical Romance. Another wickedly, seductive "Woodleys" story. A must read and another keeper!! I would suggest reading "Tempted"," Deceived", and "Forbidden", they are all awesome reads as well. "Ruined" was my favorite and most anticipated of this series! Adored this story!

I was so excited to find out why Claire abandoned her family and her secret was an explosive one. Jess Michaels did a lovely job as a writer feeding her readers small tidbits of Claire's story throughout the Woodley family books. Ruined starts off with a bang. Claire shows up and asks War for his help in finding her daughter. Seems her criminal lover has left her and stolen their child as well. Claire and War have loved each other from afar for years. Claire believes War will help her and believes that he will keep her secrets. War agrees of course, but he wants her to reconnect with her family. They have been so worried about her and only wanted her to come home. There is very palpable chemistry between Claire and War, it is like they have been starving for each other for years. The passion between them is red hot and this book doesn't hold back. It seems War likes a little bit of control during sex and he wants to show Claire that she can let go for him. I don't want to give too much away, but Claire's story lived up to the hype the author has been building. I have loved reading about this family and look forward to more.

If you've been following the Wicked Woodleys series, this is the book you're waiting for! Claire's story is just as dramatic, suspenseful, and sexy as I'd hoped. I love bad girl heroines with all of their complexity and refreshing honesty. She is someone who must face the consequences of her actions. Although I predicted the secret that drove her from her family, I still felt for her sense of betrayal and loss.
War is the perfect foil to Claire's intentions to stay away from her family. He, too must face his dark past but he does it out of his abiding love for her. And in the bedroom, he has quite the imagination to unlock her passion and her trust.
My only complaint about the story is that is ended too soon! Jess left me wanting more and I was very happy to see the preview of the next Wicked Woodley novel.
Ok. So just before I begin.. these 3.5 stars are for WAR. Holly hotness hold me down before I launch and consume him!! I’m soo weak for tall big guys! Im sorry gorgeous man that I can’t give you 5 but you can’t carry the book on your big shoulders alone.
And as usual for this series , now that I’m reading it all again I have remembered why the heroines really let this series down. Such potential in most of the hero’s and story lines but the star of the show I guess you could call Claire.. ?! Well she was THE worst. What a dumb bimbo. The idiocy of leaving, disappearing , getting yourself knocked up buy a douche you didn’t even love. Leaving war , knowing you had feelings for him) coming back like a tramp gutter talking back alley feral..?? NO. Completely ruined it all. Communication with the family like an adult would have been so much more normal. BUT NO.

I love Jess Michaels and I love this series! The Wicked Woodleys series is full of great characters, true love matches, hot wicked sex and nail biting suspense. Claire Woodleys has been lost to the family for several years now ashamed and guilt ridden for the things that she's done she does not want to see her family. Warwick "War" Blackwood has worked for the Woodleys for years as the horse trainer. War has wanted Claire since he first laid eyes on her but knew he was far beneath her. Claire desperately needs War's help and is willing to do anything to get it. Claire demands War's help but War has his own demands but it may be more then Claire can give. I love War and Claire together. They both have a past that controls their actions and secrets they will do anything to protect.
This should have been the last book on this series, but I'm happy it's not. I likes Clare and War's story even if it was really stretched thin, but still enjoyable, specially because I got to see all the Woodleys together again and they are one of my favorite family.
Improbable and unwanted is trumped by love and family
Unwelcome sexual themes for me. Improbable character motivations. A modern approach In dialog. But In the end, love wins and family matters
In this series, the steaminess occurs mostly in the first act. With this book, it was not my cup of tea, so to speak. I was also not enamored with the blindness of the characters for themselves.
Fortunately, the characters and plot picked up and by the end of the book, I upgraded my overall rating of the book. I think my favorite thing is that the Woodley family feels friendly.
I was kind of disappointed by the two prior books in the series so I put off reading this one, even though it is Claire’s book. But I’m happy to say that I very much enjoyed Ruined. I like how Claire and War’s relationship is the backbone of the story all the way through rather than just a few moments at the end. You could read the prior books in the series in order to fully appreciate Claire’s story, but I also think you could read this as a stand-alone.
And what a story…. I’ve read the entire series and decided to write the review for this book as it was my favorite.. throughout the first 3 books reading about Claire and the search for her… we finally know the background story. The development of the plot was excellent and the relationship between Claire and Warwick was beautifully spun out .. I would very highly recommend this entire series of books …. There are a lot of people out there who could use a Warwick in their life..
Jess Michaels is always entertaining, and I was pleased to fill in this volume of the “Wicked Woodleys”, and to find out what Claire was hiding, and why she abandoned her family. War is a delicious hero, and his brother Jack an entertaining and curiosity evoking side character. I was glad to reach the end and see that his story is next.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Another great story with Claire finally coming home. Claire will do anything to save her daughter even blackmail the man she has loved for 10 yrs. War Blackwood. War agrees to help Claire but he gives her an ultimatum that she must see her family that she abandoned over 2 years ago. A wonderful read with a great ending.
Wow! Ruined is a finnominal, book, All of the Woodley secrets we're revealed, alot of heartache, alot of pain, and strong family ties.,That's all I,m going to say, your have to read Claire,s story to find out what made her run away.I enjoyed reading this book very much. Thank you!❤️
Finally, we meet Claire and learn her story: why she ran, why she kept away and hidden, why Jonathan Aston had such a hold on her. We also learn a lot more about War, the stable master, and why Claire seeks him out over all others for help. I did not like the sex in this book; too much bondage and domination, even if done as erotica. The characters were interesting but not compelling, but the plot was driving. While it can be read as a stand alone, it is easier t\if you start with Book 1.
Oh this has to be the best to date. The characters and plot was brilliant. And how they got through their family's feeling again their own. Absolutely fabulous.. Hugs Jess xx
2.5 Claire's story, hopefully, in the next two the author moves on from her. LOL I found her youthful decisions odd and her avoiding a family that clearly loved her odd during those decision. Even the reveal of why she did those things did not make sense to me.

Claire ran away rom her family with a very bad man, because of a secret she found in her father's study after his death. Her family couldn't understand why she left. So read and see what happens next.
Claire's problem would have been solved if she outright asked her family in the beginning lol. But then again, this book and the entire series wouldn't have been made because plot 😅
