Second Chances

Rate this book
For as long as he could remember, Sebastian had been cursed.

It began with the tragic death of his parents when he inherited the modern art gallery. It continued every day when he looked in the mirror and saw a monster where a man should be. He’d tried everything without success. Then he happened upon her, his cure, the one who could give him a second chance at life, love and happiness.

After years of repairing what her father destroyed during his drunken rampages, opening a shop for repurposed and redesigned furniture seemed a natural progression for Marisa. When Sebastian hired her, she finally had a chance to get paid to do what she’d done for years for free. It seemed like a win, until he proposed.

The moment they met, Sebastian was drawn to her. Of course, losing everything in thirty days if he didn’t marry was a huge incentive. So he asked and she refused. An experienced negotiator, he never gave up when he had his heart set on something. For Marisa, marriage wasn’t on the table and love wasn’t negotiable. Still, always quick to see the best in others, she looked at him and saw a project, her ultimate redesign. Maybe even Sebastian deserved a second chance.

What made her decide to be an erotica author?

Simple.

How else was she going to parlay her two favorite past times into a career?

Emma is single and loving it. Like her first character, Alysin, Sin for short, she doesn't believe in settling or in settling down. She loves to indulge in her passions whenever the mood strikes and enjoys keeping all of life's cliche moments spicy.

Known for her sense of humor, Emma surrounds herself with friends whose antics often become the source of book fodder. Her ideal situation would be to explore the Caribbean while writing. She pursues that dream daily.

In Emma Nichols “Second Chances”, the reader will find so many clichés that at first you will think this is not really original or new – but after a few chapters you will notice that the author did a small miracle with all those clichés and managed to create a really sweet and deep story.

I really liked her writing even if there were a few flaws in there that catch my eye … like a business card that is never given away but suddenly is in the hands of the other person – or a person waving with her hands during talking while waiting to get an x-ray because of a possible broken arm.

And maybe the biggest flaw of all that the reader never really gets a more detailed explanation on what it is that makes Sebastian think he is a monster (other than the fact that his uncle is to blame)

But honestly? Even if that might sound bad on any other book with a more flat storyline but in this book there is so much depth that it survives those flaws easily. There is so much from Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella in this book that it almost hurts (in a good way) …

Such a shame I did not read the first book so far

Please enjoy this fairytale in modern design

“Before I could respond his lips were on mine, not simply kissing, but possessing me. When I opened my mouth to his tongue, I could almost taste his fear, and feel his pain. Then, at the end, there was something else, some spark. Hope.”

4 cursed stars!!!

Sebastian hasn’t had the best life growing up and he’s convinced he’s cursed. He swore he saw a monster when he looked at his reflection. And then he meets Marisa and he believes she’s his cure. He knows with her he can find true happiness again. But there’s more to his story, he has to marry someone in 30 days or he’ll lose everything. So like the crazy person he is, he proposes to Marisa, she refuses of course because she’s never wanted to get married. But the more she’s with Sebastian the more she realizes maybe she can “fix” him.

This was definitely a quick and cute book. I loved Sebastian and all his darkness, I mean I’m a sucker for a man with a dark past. And I love Marisa and her need to fix things, including Sebastian. I really love this series…...it needs to keep going!!

Review:

This is the second book in the Dreams Come True series. It is a stand alone book as was the first book. I must say that I enjoyed the second book so much more. We met Sebastian in the first book and he was a complete jerk. After reading the second book we know why he was a jerk, and I am pretty sure that you will fall head over heals in love with this beautiful man. The plot of this story is that Sebastian is approaching his 25th birthday. According to the will of his deceased parents, he must marry by his 25th birthday or lose everything but a substantial inheritance to an uncle that has been estranged from the family since forever. The estranged uncle showed up around the time of Sebastian’s parents plane crash when Sebastian was just 14 years old. Growing up with his verbally abusive uncle, Sebastian has grown up with total self loathing. He sees himself as the monster that his uncle often called him. Once Marisa enters his life he sees himself as someone that may be able to love. Now he has to convince Marisa to marry him. Not for the money, but because she feels so right. The chemistry is filled with sparks and a fun quick banter. The pacing is pretty quick. There is much going on including an attempt on Marisa’s life. Love the ending. Now I want to read the next book. The character development showed us what made both Marisa and Sebastian the people that they are, and how they bring out the best in each other.

Oh boy did Sebastian surprise me! If you read First Position, Sebastian comes off as a total jerk, always demeaning his friends for finding/wanting love. Getting to peel back Sebastian’s layers to find the pain that he hides which drives this behavior was surprising. Having lost his parents as a young boy, the uncle he ends up living with is a cruel man that emotionally batters a once happy boy. At the same time, his parents stipulated he had to be married by 25 to keep the family fortune which frustrates him essentially sending him running from love and marriage. As the countdown nears zero, he realizes he has little hope of marrying and keeping the family gallery and mansion until one night, a crazy artist vandalizes his gallery putting Marisa in his path. Marisa has been cleaning up her father’s messes ever since her mother died forcing a young girl to grow up fast. When he vandalizes an art gallery, she finds herself at Sebastian’s mercy to fix his latest mess. She never expects a marriage proposal and a job to restore the furniture her father damaged. As she works at the gallery to repair the damage, Sebastian takes a new approach and works to date Marisa. They are both broken souls having lost the parent(s) that loved them at a young age and then forced into situations that required them to grow up quickly, they are kindred spirits. Neither has had a real relationship but they find themselves comfortable around each other. I loved their spirited conversations and banter. You sense that they see the same hurt and longing in each other to find love. The challenge they have is trust after being hurt so deeply. Marisa is more content with her life so it’s a joy to watch Sebastian find ways to connect with Marisa and essentially humanize himself after holding so much back for all these years. I enjoyed every crazy, heart stopping and swoon worthy moment of their journey. I was given a copy for an honest review.

This book is second in the Dreams come true series. The first one is First a dream (if you haven't read it yet go do that first). This book changes paced compared to the first one. This one doesn't have that same obvious prince charming feel to it. This one is more about both characters working on fixing their messed up lives. You get to see them both grown and change.

Sebastian has been busying himself with running the modern art gallery since his parents died. Its all he knows and he doesn't have time to bother with much else. One night someone breaks in to the gallery and destroys the place. While the cops have the drunk intruder in handcuffs he keeps saying that his daughter will be so mad at him for wrecking the gallery. Intrigued as to why this guy cares so much about what his daughter thinks Sebastian decides to call her down to the gallery. And that's when Sebastian realizes that maybe there is hope for him after all.

Marisa had to learn how to be the adult since her father keeps getting drunk and messing everything up. The same hands that can create such beauty can also create chaos and despair. When he gets drunk he starts damaging everything in site. She has started making beautiful pieces out of the wreckage. Taking something damaged and broken and breathing new life into it. Some pieces just speak to her inner artist. She believes all of the pieces deserve a second chance. Her exception is people because she has been let down over and over again by her father. Can Sebastian be the one that speaks to her soul? Can he get her to give him a second chance and breathe life into him like she does her art? He could be her most challenging transformation yet.

Read this as part of the on-going project to help a friend develop a booklist for her group, Adult Children of Parents with PTSD. This book is an insult to people with PTSD.

Marisa's mom died when Marisa was 12. Her father, already an alcoholic, dove into the bottle and also went on these rampant rages and he smashed stuff. He is also a sculptor who over the years sold a lot of stuff at Sebastian's gallery. Dad would go out drinking at night and would shut Marisa into the trunk of the car so she would be safe. Then presumably he drove home, drunk. Marisa developed skills at repairing the stuff her father smashed and turned the bits and pieces into art.

When Sebastian was 14, his parents died. The book opens with the lawyer explaining the will. If Sebastian marries by age 25, he gets everything but his uncle whom he had never met is named as his guardian. The uncle is quite abusive. Somehow Sebastian at 14 is running an art gallery.

This book takes place in Montreal and I wonder if the author has ever been there because the setting is just a generic town.

For some reason, Sebastian thinks he is hideous, a monster, a beast. No idea how he came to think this. His parents were loving and praised him a lot so one would think by 14, hed feel good about himself. But I guess the uncle's abuse got to him. Sebastian also had a problem with anger and smashed a lot of furniture.

I would assume Canada has some form of child protection services and I have to wonder how it is these two children weren't protected from these unfit people. Anyway they meet, it's instant love and they fly off to Las Vegas on his 25th birthday to marry but somehow the date on the certificate is the next day and they think the uncle is going to get it all only it turns out he is not Sebastian's uncle but someone who stole the uncle's identity and may have murdered Sebastian's parents but that is never resolved within the story.

Of course Marisa's love for Sebastian cures his PTSD and of course his love for her cures hers. He also cures the dad of alcoholism. It's quite ridiculous.

Second Chances

Second Chances is a great continuation in the dreams come true series. In the first book I couldn't stand Sebastian, after reading Second Chances that just goes to show you definitely shouldn't judge a book by its cover. His life story as it's told throughout the book brings his character into a whole new light along with Marisa.
I also loved the plot twist, definitely didn't see that coming!

At first I thought that it was going to be another Beaty and the Beast spin off, and for the first quarter of the book, it kind of was, but then it became its own book and I really liked the story of Sebastian and Marisa. Sebastian was "a Beast", with bad character and many issues, but Marisa freshness and humor got him out of his shell. It wasn't what I was expecting from Sebastian's story, because in the previous book in the series, he is painted as a jerk, but with Marissa he is sweet and damaged. I liked the humor between the two of them, and I liked Marisa's strong personality, even if she is a little naive and shy. This was a very good book, and I liked the characters.

Second Chances by Emma Nichols was a great 5 star read.
Romance, Humor, Suspense, Hot Alpha, Strong Female

She always cleans up after me. She fixes what’s broken, but...she could never fix me.

I loved it. Just the right amount of suspense, humor and romance.

We meet Sebastian and Marisa in this great read. Told in alternating POV.

Marisa is forever cleaning up her alcoholic father's messes until one night he goes too far. He has destroyed Sebastian’s gallery and there is no way she can repay him for the damage done, she has had enough and decides to turn her back and walk away.

Sebastian is intrigued by Marisa and decides to help her father and hire her to rebuild the furniture that was destroyed in his gallery. He does have an ulterior motive, he needs to be married by his 25th birthday to avoid losing his inheritance. Marisa agrees to rebuild the furniture, this is something she loves and is excited to get a chance to make some money.

As she works on the furniture Sebastian and Marisa start to grow closer. And of course he drops his proposal for marriage every chance he gets. There is something about Sebastian that draws Marisa to him and as she gets to know him and his secrets she wants to help him get a “Second chance”.

For the First time, I wanted everything. Sharing my secrets with him wasn’t enough. Now I wanted to share my body, give myself to him, heart and soul.

The humor was great, I loved Marisa’s strength and sassiness. The secondary characters added a great element to the story. Sebastian gave as good as he got when it came to Marisa. Loved it!

This peace and happiness was only possible because my beauty had tamed my beast.

Second Chances can be read as a standalone and we get to see a HEA. There are a few twists that I didn’t see coming that held some surprises and answered some questions. Thank you Emma Nichols for a great read. I can’t wait to read Ben’s story.

ARC received in exchange for an honest review

When I first started reading the prologue I was pretty wary I'm not going to lie. I began to wonder if this was going to be a bit predictable or a bit too typical... Sebastian's predicament (which will not be explicitly said so as to not be a spoiler of any sort) was different but I worried about the course of action he was going to take to resolve it.

My interest was peaked when I realized the true demons that Sebastian was facing. His insecurities warped into real fears that were true barriers for his character. In a very unique and touching way it made him more humane. It was a rare glimpse at a tenderly flawed alpha male character that stands out in my mind. It dissolved any preconceived of what his character truly was and allowed me to see him from a much better place.

I loved that place.

The best thing about this story are the characters. I loved both Sebastian and Marisa and the balance and complimentary aspects they brought to each other. Marisa is probably the easiest to relate to throughout the story hands down. While some aspects of the story I saw coming, the one moment that I didn't expect was peeling back the spunky layers of her personality and getting a glimpse of the real pain she had fought to get through... pain that lingered under the surface still.

Sebastian is a broken man and he finds the salvation to his cursed life in a young woman who finds her passion is to take the things others deemed broken and restore them.

Marisa is a fixer...

They completed each other so well in some instances that I didn't have a hard time understanding that they truly did become everything to each other. YET... Marisa's talent and passion for her work holds true from beginning to end, proving she didn't have to lose her own self even as she allowed herself to grow in her relationship with Sebastian.

It was a read that pulled me within the first couple of chapters and didn't let me go until I put the book down. There's a love story, a bunch of chuckles and a surprising bit of thrill that's waiting for you in this one.

I definitely recommend it with a full 4 STARS!

This story of romance, anger, love and a tad bit of intrigue deals will two broken people who find each other and somehow discover that there is someone out there just for them. The theme of anger, emotional abuse and alcoholism is prevalent throughout the story but it is not the main theme. The author does a superb job of intertwining it throughout, in a manner that explains why they are broken and how their characters developed from children to adults.

Marisa though guarded is a strong women and you see how she has learned to cope with her father in a productive manner with some quirks as byproducts of her father. She is resourceful as well as strong headed which is appealing in a leading character.

For me, Sebastian took a while to figure out between what was reality and what was the result of his uncles abuse. Of the two he is the most damaged while giving the appearance of a successful rich man. He comes across as someone I wouldn't care to know but he develops into a very interesting man.

I give this 3-1/2 STARS because a part of me wanted more consistency in how it flowed.

This is a interesting and entertaining book to read and I really enjoyed reading it. The story covers Sebastien who lost his parents at a early age and his uncle who was made a guardian over him, made him feel unloved and often told him that he looked like a monster. According to stipulation of his parents will was, that if he didn't marry by his 25th birthday he would lose the bulk of his parents vast estate and fortune to his uncle and now time is running out. Sebastien phones and meets Marisa, a feisty woman who's drunken father just trashed the art galley, now this is where the fun begins. What you will find in this story is drama, suspense, intrigue, a bit of humor, a unscrupulous greedy uncle, hating his reflection, a unkempt drunk man, a feisty daughter, trashing a art gallery, emotional feelings and erotic scenes. The story-line and plot is well thought out and written in a entertaining way. The characters have strong personalities and overcome adversities. I would recommend this book to people who like to read a well written intriguing romance with a happy ending

What a wonderful book! I had wondered about Sebastian since I read First A Dream. I just knew there was more to his story... and boy, was there ever! Sebastian is such a wonderfully complex character, so mired down in his own sorrow that he's forgotten how to truly live or love. Enter Marisa, a feisty little spitfire determined to show Sebastian the wonderfully caring man behind his beast. Theirs is a truly lovely little romance with plenty of drama and suspense thrown in for good measure. This couple absolutely defines second chances. They are each other's lifelines. They are such individually strong characters, but prove they're even stronger as a unit. Overall, I found this book to be sweet and intriguing and romantic and enchanting and impassioned and so completely compelling. I would highly recommend this book, and can't wait to read Ben's story.

After reading First A Dream, which is the first book in this series. And I enjoyed reading that one as well. But I couldn't wait to read Sebastian's story. Another great job done by Emma. Looking forward to the next.

Sebastian is unsure of himself. He pushes people away because he thinks his a monster. His life changes at the age of 14 and that sets his life up till the age of 25. In order to keep his inheritance and the gallery, he needs to be married by his 25th birthday.

Marisa struggles trying to help her father to stay sober. Instead one night he breaks into a gallery and vandalizies it.

Sebastian has a propersition for Marisa. The question is will she take it and save her father. But there is a mystery with Sebastian's Uncle Luc. You gotta grab a copy and find out what happens. Will Sebastian lose everything?

Second Chances is Emma Nichols' second novel in the Dreams Come True series. I found it funny, romantic, suspenseful, and truly captivating.
In Second Chances we discover why Sebastian is such a brooding a*s. And, it turns out to be for a very twisted reason. This discovery is only possible when Marissa enters his life. She is a young, innocent artist who has focused entirely too much of her life on her alcoholic father and has an unknown connection to Sebastian.
We watch as these two fall in love and risk everything for that love. Of course, there are plenty of humorous moments, sexual frustrations, and mysteries to solve throughout the book to keep us thoroghly entertained throughout.
I hate to admit it but I enjoyed Second Chances even more than the first; now I am off to read Three Wishes!

Sebastian's parents died when he was a teenager. His uncle came to live with him and his life changed. Gone was the loving household. His uncle kept telling him that he was nothing but a monster. Sebastian cannot receive his inheritance until he is 25 and he has to be married by then or his uncle will get the bulk of the estate. He will still have money, but he will lose a large portion of his parents' estate. He had a bad attitude, but despite that he has some good friends. He is jealous of his friend's new found love. Then he meets Marisa. He figured that he could marry her and his problems would be over. But, she just met him and isn't sure she ever wants to marry. How will Sebastian convince Marisa that he really loves her and doesn't want to marry her because of his inheritance?

This is my first Emma Nichols book. I really enjoyed reading Second Chances. It was a fun, light read. It may have even cured of my book funk. Ha!

Anyway, there are a lot of things that I loved about this book, but I'm not gonna gush about everything in here.
1. I'm a big fan of dual POV. I love reading a book from the male and female's POV.
2. You know that overused part where the male lead would be all tongue-tied and floored how attractive the female lead is or vice versa? I hate that crap. It starts to get old when you read it in almost every book. I'm super glad it ain't here.
3. I love the connection between Sebastian and Marisa. They're a fun couple and I felt giddy and excited everytime they interacted.

The list goes on. I don't know if there's anything bad/wrong about the book. If tere was, I didn't notice it. Just shows that I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

Sebastian believes himself to be cursed and usually sees a monster in the mirror instead of his own reflection. The damage inflicted by his uncle runs deep. He meets Marisa after her father breaks into Sebastian's gallery in a drunken rampage to destroy the place.

Despite the comical way they met, the two are drawn to each other immediately. Their romance is both sweet and hot once they finally got together. I really enjoyed the way the story ended and how the uncle twist resolved itself...

This is the second book in the Dreams Come True series, but you don't have to read First a Dream (book 1) first in order to enjoy this one. Although if you do, Sebastian's character is far more intriguing.

Second Chances by Emma Nichols
Marisa Rosemont lives with Mattie. Her father is an artist with a drinking problem, and
when he drinks he can get out of hand. Sebastian Boucher lost his parents at 14 and his
Uncle Luc came to live with him and raise Sebastian. Uncle Luc is an evil man and tries to
make Sebastian think he is cursed and a monster. He owns an art gallery that Marisa's
father wants to have his art shown at but when Sebastian refuses him, he shows up drunk
and breaks in to the gallery. I like the way this book is written and how the story goes.
Both characters have strong personalities but come together perfectly in this beautiful
Love story. I was glad to have this chance to read this book and look forward to reading
more of Emma Nichols work.

This is the second stand alone book in this amazing series. This book is about Sebastian who must marry by the age of 25 or he loses his inheritance including the Art Gallery and he now has 30 days left. Marisa is a young women who opened up her own repurposed and redesigned furniture store who Sebastian has just hired to fix the damage caused by her drunken father in the art gallery. This book is very well written and the storyline flows through perfectly. The character's are very realistic and complex. The story provides intrigue, twist and turns that will keep you captivated. You will find romance which is sweet and sexy, comedy, and drama. You wont want to miss this one as its very intriguing and you want be disappointed. I was given a free copy in exchange for a honest review.

Sebastian is a month away from turning 25. His parents will stipulated he was to inherit their estate on his birthday but only if he is married by then, otherwise it was to pass to his uncle. Marisa is about to open a shop where she sells furniture that she renovates. Marisa's father gets drunk and ends up damaging a lot of the displays in the gallery Sebastian manages. When Marisa comes to collect her father she meet Sebastian and they strike a deal for her to fix what she can. They start a relationship but can Sebastian win her over before the month is up? This was a very enjoyable story and the book is hard to put down.

This is the second book in the Dreams Come True series. Although the characters move in and out of the books in this series, each book is stand alone. Sebastian and Marisa are both broken souls. Sebastian has been put down and told he is a beast for the past 11 years by his Uncle. Marisa and been tortured by her unpredictable drunken father. When Marisa father trashes Sebastian's art gallery Marisa and Sebastian meet and a something happens between them. Enjoy this romance about healing the hurts from the past and making each other whole again. You will not be disappointed with this book or any of Emma's books.

Sometimes we all need a second chance

I really enjoyed this book. It is the second in the series, although each is a standalone. Some people don't think they deserve a second chance, some people have lost too much to believe it can happen. With a man who has been told he is a monster and a beast, it takes is a woman with a cheeky sense of humor to show him that everyone can be different if they find a person who loves them and are willing to open their heart. He learns that not only can love change the beast, it can restore a fortune in many ways.
