New York. A serial killer is releasing snuff films to the media, luring Detective Ron Stanford into a game of cat and mouse while he grapples with Tess Gideon's return from Europe, and the unfinished emotional business between them. As the investigation intensifies they're drawn into a twisted world of sex parties and forbidden depravity so lurid even a seasoned cop like Stanford is shocked. Gritty and unflinching, the saga's breakneck pace accelerates relentlessly to a climax so surprising it is guaranteed to leave even the most jaded aficionado of crime mysteries gasping.
'Fatal Deception' was another great story from a great series that pulled me in and didn't let go. The story line was very creative. There were some twists I didn't see coming. Ron is as great as ever. He is such an intense detective. He sure gets results when he has an inkling of something not finished properly when it comes to his cases. Tess is put through more of an emotional wringer and she becomes stronger for it. I love that her character doesn't just curl up and give up. She fights for what she wants and demands justice. A great add to your tbr list. I look forward to reading more of this series.
Three months after the Fatal Exchange, Tess is back and want to reconnect with Ron. Her cousin is in New York, working with ballet company, talented ballerina. And she was murdered too. Ron is after the snuff film makers and murders. New York underground sex parties. Many possible killers, book moves fast.
I quit after a while. This was too much for me. I loved the first Tess book but this one was too hard to get through. I rarely leave a book… Especially one by Russell Blake. I’m sure some people can handle it but not me. Just a note… I have read so many of Russell Blakes books… but, like gothic horror… this wasn’t for me. And, I don’t want to be offensive at all. It’s just not the genre I enjoy.
Book 2 in the Fatal Book Series is as good and well written as book 1. Once again the characters are great, along with a great plot and storyline makes for another GREAT READ.
I happened on this two book series and truly enjoyed them both. The somewhat exotic female lead provided Something out of the norm that I found captivating. Russell Blake certainly finds new interesting ways to put a little spice in his novels. Thanks!
This is not a thriller, more like a lousy mystery. I really took my time and at times wasn’t interested in what happened, not the kind of book I am looking for, and I have read a lot of Blake’s stuff. I give it a 3.
An excellent, if rather dark read, this author takes on the speedier elements of crime and puts them into fascinating storyline with complex and interesting characters. Excellent!
Read book one which was very good so I am glad I read the second in the series. It was just the way I like them bad guy lise good guys win great story written well
Fatal Deception picks up three months after Fatal Exchange. Tess has returned from Europe looking to reconnect with Ron, and while giving their relationship a go, Ron is trying to catch a serial killer. As Ron searches for the murderer, the reader is immersed in a world of sexual depravity and snuff films, and the people involved are so twisted, it made my skin crawl.
There’s a nice balance throughout the novel. Sometimes you’re terrified spending time inside the mind of a suspect, and sometimes you’re smiling as Tess and Ron’s relationship develops. One thing is for sure, Blake didn’t hold back on depicting the darker aspects of the story, and the book is the better for it.
Outstanding follow up book to Fatal Exchange. There were lots of twists and turns in the story to keep you turning the pages......wonderful for travelling. Bring on the next one Russell.
