This is another favorite adventure book! It's very interesting as it takes you through the journey of a physicist going to the Amazon and learning the customs and rituals of shamans, including taking ayahuasca and going through that type of spiritual experience. Great read for someone interested in the shamanic culture!
Physics professor has mystical experiences and tries to connect it with physics. I found the writting was too academic to have any 'spiritual' value, and the science part was not deep enough to gain true insight. Might be interesting for other physics professors looking to broaden their world views - otherwise I don't recommend this book for learning about shamanic practices, as it is too boring.
A quantum physicist takes a quantum leap into the Peruvian Jungle and participates in ancient shamanic rituals. It is hard for him to make that leap, to leave the certainty of Newtonian physics behind, but he gets deeper and deeper, finding more and more of the shadows of occult myths and mysteries that are in tune with the ideas of quantum physics. It is a very interesting book and explains complex ideas in terms a layman can understand, but I remain unconvinced. I am not ready to go down the rabbit hole just yet. I did, however, enjoy this peek!
Great book that looks at the links between shamanism an quantum physics. I found it has just the right amount of technical detail to but become too bogged down. It is told through the eyes of the author as he journeys through South America in search of answers, and weaves an interesting narrative through scientific findings and hypothesis.
If you are interested in the paranormal then this a great book that brings another dimension to that area.
What happens when an overblown ego streams from a shrunken intellect? You get a "physicist" searching "the truth" in mysticism. An equivalent would be to ask the stable hand to spellcheck your philosophic essay written in French. In France you might have a slim chance. In Japan that would be called a miracle.
Tons of great nuggets and theories and revelations. Structure gets repetitive and sometimes almost eye-rolling... but it still gets the job done. Fred Alan Wolf is still out there making content! Woohoo!
I'm about 10 years late in reading this book which has been on my bookself all that time. But I think Wolf has pretty well nailed the physics behind shamanic experience.
