The story is slow throughout the book, and I wondered if the HEA would ever come. Noelle and Cade's backstory only came towards the very end, but the story wasn't drawn out. I did feel a little impatient at the beginning, though, because even their internal dialogues didn't reveal anything except misgivings and anger towards the other. I yelled a few times, "RESOLVE YOUR ISSUES!"
I read the two books before this one (enjoyed #1; #2 was all right) quite awhile ago, and I don't remember much about the parents, whose marriage renewal brings the family back to River's Sigh. I think a little history about them would have helped me understand Cade better since reference is made to how he may be affected by the way they - the father, especially - treat him.
This is a true-to-life reflection of what marriage can sometimes be. There were a number of touching scenes which made me cry, and the storytelling was really good.
