As a nymph, she’s fashioned for seduction
Melita is married to the centaur, Lord Thereus. Or at least she pretends to be. The ruse has been easy, until the presumed deceased Thereus returns. To save his lands, she committed treason. But that isn’t the worst of her secrets. To protect her heart from the lethally charming Thereus, she’ll have to risk claiming his.

No one has ever tamed him
Thereus was once as wild as the stallion half of his body. And just as stubborn. He never wished for a wife, but the woman he returns to has changed. She’s become… irresistible. Despite his attraction, Thereus doesn’t intend to stay. After he collects his army, he’ll be off to war. Yet as his passion for her burns as deep as her secrets, he’ll have to fight for the one thing he faked his death to escape… and now just might not be able to live without.

The path of truth is wound with hidden desires
Melita’s shadowed past holds a secret that could shatter the centuries-old peace between centaurs and Lapiths. But trusting her heart to Thereus isn’t a risk Melita is willing to take twice, even though he swears he’s now more wicked than wild. As her enemies close in on the truth, Melita and Thereus will have to choose between protecting her race… and saving his.

A centaur unfulfilled was a danger to himself and others. It was more than simple lust. A madness infected them [...] and if they couldn't be cured, [they were] executed.

I usually don't get up in arms about cheating or rape in romance novels. But this is giving the hero a free pass for all manners of terrible behavior. I was considering stopping the book before this passage because of the heavy layer of secrets on top of tragic decisions. It certainly makes for a lot tension and heartbreak, but the main characters sounded more and more dishonorable.

I was provided with an ARC of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

The second book in Rachael Slate’s Halcyon Romance series once again demonstrates her deft hand at creating a story within an ongoing story even as she explains and expands her world within a world.

Just as in her Chinese Zodiac Romance series, each tale is a puzzle piece that offers a beautiful image by itself but when joined with the others, offers a whole masterpiece. Characters already introduced are brought in, albeit in a very minor way, to strengthen the ties between books without detracting from the current characters and their story.

At the same time, it expands the world in which the overall story is set, introducing new characters, settings and races to bring the world to full, rich life. All in a way that feels natural, as if you are visiting and learning about these new lands, meeting and/or learning more about the characters and their lives within the universe they inhabit.

Unlike some series, the story thus far is explained in a way that doesn’t leave you confused over exactly which story you’re currently reading, but let’s you know that there have been major events taking place already that are influencing this story and will continue, combined with the events here, to influence future tales.

Thereus was a ‘secondary’ character I found intriguing in Moon Borne with his strong sense of honor and duty. His devotion to Arsenius and the war his captain has committed to in the name of love is demonstrated as strongly here as in the first book. Why else would he return to the one place—and woman—he’d run away from years earlier to raise an army?

Melita is no less intriguing with her self-doubts brought about by a not-so-kind history and a secret I doubt many would be able to handle with as much dignity as she does. Though she sees herself as weak, even doomed, she demonstrates a strength of character that clearly shows the gods knew what they were doing when they bound her destiny to Thereus’.

This book will leave you cheering for the characters, love and eagerly awaiting future installments to see if love truly can overcome all odds in the lives of humans, gods and other races….

First, I was provided an ecopy of this manuscript from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I am so glad to see Thereus in this book. I totally feel in love with him in Moon Borne. He was such a wonderful addition to Kyme and Arsenius’ story and I was excited when I found out that Earth Borne would be his story.
I was not disappointed the story of Thereus and Melita is one that quickly drew me into their world and kept me reading. I did not want to stop reading before finding out what happened when Thereus found out that his wife was not his wife! Would they work it out and find their happy ever after.
Even though this is the second book in the series it can be read before Moon Borne and not leave you confused about the story line but I would suggest and recommend that you read Moon Borne as well because both books are well worth the time and cost.

4 stars for Earth Borne by Rachel Slate
Categories: Paranormal, Romance, Drama
Audience:Adults
Note: This book was given to me for a Honest Review

Synopsis:
When Centaur Thereus returns home after five years, he is surprised that his wife is still there. Not only is she there, but the castle and surrounding lands are thriving. He also notices that in many ways she has changed. His biggest surprise turns out to be the fact that he has a son.
A long time ago Melita was brought to the castle so act as her half sisters double and servant. Melita suffers as a slave not allowed to show her face unless it is to impersonate her sister. Thereus and Kalista (Melita's sister) fight every day. In the end Thereus leaves for adventure, not knowing that both sisters are pregnant with his child. Melita's child is still born, so when tragedy strikes and Kalista dies in child birth, Melita takes on her child as her own.
Now Thereus is home. How will he react to learning the truth? Can Melita hide the truth from him? Will the new feelings of love he feels for his wife, be enough to save them all? Read and find out.

Conclusion:
This books both made me laugh and cry. It's a sweet drama about two people trying to make the best, of less than perfect situation of their own making. The story is well written and engaging, it's also has many sweet and funny scenes between Thereus, Melita and their son. It's a fun, light read perfect for the summer.

wowzer, Rachael blew me away with this story.
Where to start!!!
Melita! Melita could have a story of her own but her story with Lord Thereus is such an amazing one.
Melita is brought with her sister to Lord Thereus home after their wedding. Melita is hidden so that no one knows that she is there. No one knows true name but Kalliste.
Melita has a secret that could be the end of her but with the quick departure of Lord Thereus, Melita is left to live free in his home. Free until he returns home.
Can Melita do what must be done to save herself, can she fight the love she has for this Centaur, can she be who he wants...
Melita and Thereus have such a strong bond, can they move past the secrets.
This book is quite amazing and a great addition to the Halcyon Series. Such wonderful work from Rachael Slate leaving me wanting more.

This is the second standalone book in the Halcyon series. A story based on Olympian myths with centaurs, nymphs, Amazons and a pantheon of gods and goddesses. As every great myth enjoys a dramatic event, so does this story. Read along as Thereus the centaur returns to his home and discovers his long lost wife. Not all is as simple as it seems and great sacrifices will be demanded of Thereus and his mate. Great love story, steamy sex scenes and fabulous adventures. Enjoy! OMG this is the most powerful romance I believe I have ever read. My emotions went through the wringer with everything that Melita went through loving Thereus so much I was brought to tears many times especially during the latter part of this story. I want to say so much but have to suffice with so little because I fear to spoil this story for others. But know that if you give this romance a try you will be enriched for it.

I was given an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review and by the way this is my first Rachel Slate story and I so want to read more by her.

I really enjoyed this book. It quickly drew me in and kept me reading, I didn't want to put the book down. This is the second book in the series and it can be read as a stand-alone, I haven't read the first book and didn't feel lost or confused. I'm eager to read the first book now and can't wait to read the rest of the series.

4.5 in this read.
I wish it would give me that option for rating. Round it up!
Anyway, Rachael has a talented way of making people feel when reading her writing. Nymph and Centaur combination is captivating. I loved the small child and wish to know more of Eloise (sp). Rachael captivates us by making adventures we never thought to exist and...yeah it is great! I cannot wait for the next in the series!

Such an amazing story. Once again Rachael Slate takes you on an incredible journey to another world. A land filled with centaurs, nymphs, winged ones and mermaydes. A magickal place ruled by the Gods. Rachael is such an incredible author. Her characters just come to life and you can't help but feel as if you are part of this amazing adventure. This is the second book in the Halcyon Romance series and I look forward to many more.

This is a wonderfully well-told tale which readers have come to expect from the pen of Rachael Slate.

The build-up of passion and love between Thereus and Melita is like lighting a slow-burning fuse and watching it steadily gain 'steam train' momentum to a climactic ending.

Duty, treason, jealousy, lust, heartbreaking sorrow, soul-raising joy...and more. Beautiful.

I can't wait for the next book!

I'M VERY UNIMPRESSED WITH THE MMC.
How can I be awed by an irresponsible, flighty male who once fled his marriage because one, he didn't want it, and two, he fucked another female along the same timeline after he fucked his wife? And the other woman happens to be our heroine, while his wife, her half-sister. If that doesn't give you the icks, I don't know what does.

I couldn't enjoy this as thoroughly as I should.

The male lead was uninteresting and irresponsible, suddenly he returns like a prodigal son - who didn't deserve anything.

While I liked the idea of Melita playing "usurper", I didn't like how she played second fiddle to a lot of things, and also labelled 'the other woman' even if she was Thereus's true bond mate.

This is an entertaining and fun read. There is a little angst, violence and a lot of guilt on both sides which helps to make an interesting story. Enjoy I did.

*** I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review, which was originally published on my book blog, Will Read for Feels.

Rachael Slate does it again! Her debut novel, Trancing the Tiger, debuted last year and turned me into an instant fan, and she’s since knocked out a few other books, all of which I devoured. She launched her second series, the Halcyon historical fantasy romance novels, late last year with Moon Borne, and I found myself loving it just as much as (and possibly even more than) her Chinese Zodiac romance series. And her second Halcyon novel, Earth Borne, just helps to underscore this.

It’s kind of a second-chance romance, kind of a forbidden love story, and all kinds of hot and sweet and steamy all at once. I quite enjoyed the characters, even though they were a big change of pace from the ones in Moon Borne.

Melita is a woman pretending to be someone she’s not, and this is a pretense that may carry a death sentence along with it. She’s had a hard upbringing, and her years as an adult haven’t exactly been filled with giggles and rainbows, either, but she remains kind, caring, and honorable, with that warm kind of quality that draws people to her. She knows she is living a lie, but she remains true to herself despite it, and even when it’s part of her heritage and genetic makeup as a half-nymph that has her seemingly destined to be a victim, she chooses love, with courage, over and over again.

Thereus, on the other hand, was a character I got to know in Moon Borne, but his part in that novel is not so vital to this one that it can’t be read as a standalone. He’s a centaur, but before your brain goes there, I’ll point out that in this mythology, centaurs have a human form, which is the form in which they take lovers. Still, he’s as strong, stubborn, and virile as you’d expect a centaur to be, especially one whose father is a king of their people.

He grew up with his fair share of stallion wildness but also an idea of the kind of person he would be, the kind of relationship that would be ideal in life, so when that is shattered, he takes the opportunity to leave his responsibility behind and become a pirate (or, as spelled in this book, a pyrate, and he becomes second to Moon Borne‘s Arsenius). Upon his return five years later, he finds that things are not quite what they were, and his abandonment of his responsibilities have left the burden on Melita’s shoulders, even though he never intended it to. He owns up to his failures, though, and finds his honor; eventually he even makes hard decisions that could cost lives, for the sake of love and what he believes is right.

Melita and Thereus’ story has that mythical quality to it, which I loved, but what intrigued me was the way Slate kept me on my toes while reading. Every time I thought things were wrapped up in a nice little bow, something else would happen, and each obstacle only made the characters fight harder and harder for their happy ending, so that in the end, even though there was a bit of bitter with the sweet, I was definitely a happy camper as far as HEA addiction goes!

However, before you go thinking this is a sweet mythical fantasy love story (even though it is), I should mention that Earth Borne has got some scorching hot scenes for the eyes of mature readers only. I’ve always loved the way Slate turns up the heat between the pages of her books, and this novel is no exception.

So if you’re looking for a solid, steamy romance, and you enjoy stories featuring Greek gods and the humans who might pledge their loyalties to them but will never be their pawns, give Earth Borne a read.

Could a man like him ever be tamed by a woman like her?

CENTAURS & NYMPHS & LIES, OH MY! WOW! What a Heavenly TAIL! I ABSO-MYTH-LUTELY LOVE THIS STORY!! Once again, Rachael has used her Higher Goddess Powers to transport me into her HALCYONTACULAR World full of love, betrayal, truth, lies, Mates, friends, family and oh so much more!! In fact, there is so much more to discover, you need to read it to believe it!! wink There are so many parts & pieces that are woven together to create this EARTHTASTIC story, let alone the MYTHTACULAR series as a whole!! I have ALWAYS been fascinated with mythology, and love to read any & all stories based on the myths themselves, to the stories that incorporate the myths or are loosely based on them. However, out of all of the many stories that I have read over the years, none of them – not a SINGLE one – has ever come even close to comparing to Rachael's Halcyon Romance series! And that is a compliment of the Highest Order!! (Even higher than Zeus himself! But he will NEVER admit that, so you will just have to take my word for it!) This story has any and EVERYTHING that you could ever hope, want or dream of in one story! Inside these pages you will be swept away into a time where myths & legends are real and filled with Gods, Goddesses, Demi-Gods, Centaurs, Warriors, Lapiths, Nymphs, etc. Inside these pages you will be transported into their stories full of romance, friendships, family, adventures, naughty & hot stuff, deception, lies, manipulations and so much more MYTHLICIOUSNESS that combine together to catapult not only the book & series to a higher level, but also Rachael as an author, to a plateau all of her own! Rachael's TAILS are enriched and given this quality of depth that has you seeing, breathing, hearing and LIVING the adventures alongside - and AS - these TREERRIFIC and PAWMAZING characters! As thrilled as I am to get to live Thereus's story with him, I thought the suspense of it all was going to be the death of me! Or make me skip to the ending which is something I almost never do!! But WOW! Was the suspense EVER WORTH IT!!! With the details, intimacy, familiarity, care & love that shines in, around & through her stories, I can only conclude one thing - Rachael is a Goddess! With her astronomical talent and stellar gift, she creates these deliciously rich and beautifully detailed stories that come to life in your mind's eye, enchanting you, drawing you in so deep that you become the characters, living & experiencing their lives too! Rachael's Goddess Powers ... touching you mind, body & soul! All in all - if you love romances that sweep you off your feet and into one magical and precious world that you never want to leave – then THIS is THE story for you! And if that is not enough, then consider that this same story you love is part of a series, meaning that there will be more books to love & read, over & over again ALL by an elite author who will have you mesmerized, captivated, enthralled and in love with every single book she writes, over & over again, forever & ever! That is PRICELESS! This truly is a story & series, worthy of the Gods & Goddesses themselves! Worthy FOR the Gods & Goddesses!! Written by a Goddess!!!

I am a total Greek History and Mythology geek so this hits so many of my buttons! I loved book 1 and have been waiting with bated breath for this baby!

Thereus has finally returned to his homeland. He had had an arranged marriage but his wife was cold towards him and he ran off to sea to become a pirate. But on his return he finds that his wife is strangely welcoming and smells...different. Maybe the separation has messed with his memories of his shrew like wife.

Melita is in a whole lotta trouble. Her gentle subterfuge has come back to roost!!! When she and Thereus met last time he didn't know who she was but now she is pretending to be his late wife, her sister. They look enough alike to pass with servants but with her husband???? Add in the fact that she is hiding another loss from him and she knows she won't come out of this unscathed when he realises what is going on. But she loves his son as much as he now does and she won't go until she knows he has fully committed to being a father.

I loved this little peek into centaur life! The passion, intrigue and subterfuge are all wonderfully layered within a very strong storyline. Wonderfully empathetic characters and a real life feel passion between Thereus and Melita. I loved the whole mistaken identity thread through the book and just loved how willing a certain servant was to help out. Only a former nanny has that kinds gumption LOL.

I'm now craving more Halcyon. I can't wait to see which mythological species is tackled next!

Melita is pretending to be her sister, to give her and her son a home. She's pretending to be royalty which is punishable by death. She has improved the lives of the village, and of the servants in her home. She is nothing like her sister, but no one will know the truth because her sister's husband was one of the few who had actually seen her sister, and he died at sea. But when he returns home can she convince him she is someone else or can she trust him with the truth.

Thereus is a centuar who ran away from his family and all his responsibilities. Now he's back home and ready to reclaim what is his. The wife he remembers doesn't match up with the one he comes home to. Can his past mistakes be forgiven and can he win her heart? Or will he just leave again to wage a war for the gods?

Epic battles, centaurs, nymphs, magic, God's and goddesses, and so much more, this story is overflowing with adventure and romance. Melita is strong, sweet and loyal. Thereus is passionate, courageous, and unbridled. These two are meant for each other. But the writer does not make it an easy journey. They have to overcome so many things before they can come together. The characters are fully developed and hard to resist from Thereus and Melita to the secondary characters. This story takes you on a fantastic ride from unrequited love, through battle to a HEA of a grand love story! For me I couldn't find a flaw in this book, I enjoyed it thoroughly. You will not want to put this one down! From Olympus to Hades and everything in between this is an adventure you won't want to miss!!

This was a great second book in the Chinese Zodiac Romance series. Rachael has out done herself again on a storyline to be amazed about. I love how she takes the story to a work we have never been able to travel to. This is a time that people like myself have always wanted to live in and she gives a great adventure to be on with her characters.

The way that Rachael keep the storyline in a more detailed way is great. There is a lot of information in her stories and she has a great way of making them understood instead of confused. I love that this book continued from the first in a way that all of us have been waiting for. We learned about Thereus in the first book and I have to say he was a person that stood out. I was hoping Rachael would let us know his story and she did. I love that his story was told in a very interesting way. Thereus is the kind of character that I would see as knight in shining armor even with his personality. To pair him with Melita was a great story. Her with her self-doubting personality make for a great read. Her life hasn’t been fun but these two are the perfect set to overcome it.

The twists and turns in this book were to keep us in their story were great. The challenges were fun to see the outcomes. I love how this book can be a standalone if needed. This has its own support so it doesn’t need the first book but we do fall in love with Thereus in the first book, in my opinion anyways.

I cannot wait to see what Rachael Slate has in store for us next!

Melita is living a double life, while she is Melita she pretends to be her sister Kalliste. Which has passed away. She takes care of the people and doesnt have an ice cold heart like her sister had. She gets away with it due to how much the sisters looked alike. Thereus is the Lord of the house, yet 5 years ago he was in a shipwreck and was assumed dead. Now he is back in his Castle, and is there to stay, and willing to do whatever he can to make Melita (Kalliste) see that is he a changed man. With only 5 weeks to show her, or he will step down and let her out of their marriage!

What I enjoyed most about Earth Borne is watching Thereus go from not wanting to be with a Wife, to being away and now doing what he can to show he wants to be there for his Wife and Son. Trying and wanting to be a better man. To do anything for Melita. The Sacrifices he would make for her, to have her in his life forever! Melita will also sacrifice everything for the people she loves most in the world.

This book is Fantastic, I couldnt put it down as I had to know what was going to happen next and how the story would end. This story had its sad and happy moments, and the OMG what is she doing moments as well, and a Man who loves her that would do anything to make sure she stays with him no matter what it took. This is a family story, mixed with a love story, with mystical creatures and not your everyday story which is always a nice change from the normal. If you like stories like this, then Earth Borne is a must!!

Melita is married to centaur, Lord Thereus. WELLL she alludes that she is until the supposed dead Lord comes back--to his "wife". Oh and thats not all. Thereus comes back to a woman , a woman who is his "wife" that doesnt seem like she used to be. She is more raw, more lethal to him. She is hot when before she was cold as ice. She is giving when before she was not; there is alot this wife of his is that she was not before which makes Therues wonder why now? Was it his "death" that made her rethink her actions..? Now he wants to be around his wife when before he didnt.

Melita has so many secrets to hide, to protect and her love for Thereus is one big one. There is a reason why she is doing so many things. She lied but it was with good reason and now her lies are coming back to bite her in the rear. She has nowhere to hide but she can only pray her "husband" will protect her when he finds out. When the secrets start to come out, what will happen? Will Melita get her HEA with Thereus or will he turn his back on her forever...

I loved the Greek Mythology in this story that was woven so very well along with the suspense and action-- the romance was really good. The chemistry between the MC was great. I was rooting from the very beginning for their HEA. When the truth came out, I was shocked, I didnt see the truth coming and I thought I knew it all. The ending was sweet -I cannot wait for book 3 in this series.

My rating: 4.7 stars *****

Melita is living a double life. While she is Melita, she is also pretending to be her sister Kalliste, whom has passed away. The only draw back is that she doesn't have the ice cold heart like her sister had. But she gets away with it due to how much the sisters looked alike.

He is willing to do whatever he can to make Melita (Kalliste) see that is he a changed man, if only he knew! The irony of the story... Yet he only has five weeks to show her he has changed or he'll step down and let her out of their marriage! Crazy, I tell you.

Earth Borne was very entertaining. I loved Thereus go from not wanting to be with his wife, to being away and coming back to do whatever he can to win her over. He is trying so hard to do the best, to be the better man and little does he knows she is not the same person. He makes many sacrifices in which would make you swoon! Melita will also sacrifice everything for the people she loves most in the world.

Earth Borne is a story with sad and happy moments, OMG what is she doing moments, and swoony moments. It's a story of a man who loves a woman and would do anything to make sure she stays with him no matter. First off I want to thank Rachael for this amazing read. She out did herself on this book. I have been waiting for Thereus’s book since book one. I mean a centaurs looking the way he does would make a great story. He not only looked hot but also has the added body of a black horse. Then you have his person be Melita. She is the perfect patch for him. She has the personality that matches him great. Add the nice fact that she is a nymph and the storyline is set for adventure and possibilities.

I like that this book could be a standalone if you didn’t get to the first one. The character Thereus was in the first book and that was where we got hooked on him. Saying that you could still read book two and not miss out on much. Thereus is strong in both books and he has his place and mindset to draw you to him and keep you where he wants you.

The emotions that were had in this book is what made it a must read. The things that Melita has been through made you want to just take her and hug her for the book. She has the right man to help her with all of her emotions and more. Not to mention the emotions I had while reading this book. The bond that is made is one to tells stories about and Rachael did just that. I am glad she took this story the way she did. It makes you not want to put it down until you knew what was going to happen in the end.

I can’t wait to see what Rachael Slate has up her sleeve for us to read next.

Thereus we first met in Moon Borne, and it was hinted about his life before he joined Arsenius as a pyrate after faking his death. When he returns home, Melita his wife, is right where he left her, tending his lands and village. The question is... why is she still there? This is in a way a second chance love story, and yet different than anything you have read before. A love that is different than it was before, but yet familiar all the same. I love how Ms. Slate has the ability to spin a tale that will evoke all of your emotions while reading, but never wanting the story to end. I honestly couldn't put this book down, I craved each word, sentence and chapter with such need, I was saddend when I was done. The attention to detail of not only the H/h in the book, but the secondary characters as well was amazing. This is a story that will stick with me for quite some time, and one I will definitely reread. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would in a heartbeat as it is worth so many more. I look forward to book three in the Halcyon Romance series. 5/5 Cross posting to My Reading Reality

A Review of Earth Borne by Rachael Slate

More mythology - 4.5 stars

As the second book in this series, Rachael continues the tale of the Gods of Olympus and how Thereus plays a part in this one. We first met him in Arsenius and Kyme's book as the quartermaster of Arsenius's ship. At Arsenius's request, he has come home to ask the other centaurs to join the upcoming war. When we first meet Melita, it's a little confusing. She is the half-sister of Kalliste, who is Thereus's wife.

Kalliste died in childbirth, so Melita took her place to save Thereus's lands and to raise his son. However, now that he is back, she faces execution for treason once he finds out. Can she win his heart and keep her life? Or, will the Gods demand more from her than she can afford? There is a lot of mythology in this book, so it required me to go back and re-read certain portions of the first book to stay on track with what is going on. Well worth the time to read it, but you should really read the first book before taking on this one, just so you have a handle on what is going on and be able to understand the deal with the Gods.

Enchanting romp through Greek mythology with a kick!
Fear caused Thereus to fake his death and run away from his estate, responsibilities and new wife. Five years later he is shocked that not only has his wife not left she has brought his estate back from ruin, and that is not all the surprises in store for him. Melita’s secrets could and probably will get her killed and yet she feels drawn to Thereus, finding herself wanting to confess everything, especially her true identity! As secrets slowly reveal themselves and Thereus and Melita try to fully bond war looms and Melita makes the ultimate sacrifice to prevent it. Thereus cannot let her go and vows he will do anything to get her back even curse the Gods until they help him! Even the hefty price Persephone demands, with a very probable risk of failure, in exchange Thereus agrees too hoping Melita can forgive him when he gets her back. A must read if you are a paranormal romance buff, unforgettable characters and a storyline you can’t put down…though it is well worth the book hangover!

If you haven't started reading this series what are you waiting. You're missing out on excellent reads. Earth Borne is the second book in the series. We have Thereus who we've met in Moon Bourne. Thereus is returning home on the suggestion from the Gods. Too bad for Melita because she's living a lie while she has thought Thereus was dead. Now her worst nightmares have come true and her execution is imminent or is it? This story takes you on twists and turns. The biggest one I didn't see coming, but it shows how powerful love is. This book had me from the beginning. I really liked Melita. Everything she took on and the job she has done to keep everything from crumbling down. Melita is also intriguing because she's a nymph. That's one of my favorite mythical creatures. I also liked that Thereus kind had to grovel to try to win the affections of his wife back, but he has no clue who Melita is. While reading you fear the worst for Melita's fate, but you know Rachael isn't going to let you down. The more I read this series the more I love it. The characters are great and engaging. There is more build up for the war that is looming.

After i read the Moon Borne i thought it could never get aany better, how wrong i was!!!
I am so glad the second book was about Thereus as i loved his charachter in the first book. I loved Melita in this book, her whole personality and the kind of person that she is. All you have to do is look at the way the villagers are towards her and how she always helps everyone. I really enjoyed that Lucien was written into this story, showing even more how protective and loving Thereus is as there was a glimpse of this in the first book.
The biggest thread through this book for me is that love conquers all and you would go to the ends of the earth for the one we love. Even when all things seemed hopeless there was still that chance.
This was just such an awesome book, Rachael Slate is definately one of my favourite authors now. Her writing is just so imaginative and welcoming, you feel part of her world which makes you need to turn the page to see what comes next. There has to be another book in this series.......
