Adria Burke is an air traffic controller. She is involved in an accident that causes a collision. She is sure that she did her best that all involved came out alive. There was a mysterious third air plane that has disappeared from computer records. Without evidence of the third plane Adria’s career will be over.
Dane Calbourne is an investigator for the FAA. He is also part of a life long group of friends that call themselves the Three Musketeers. He is called into investigate the near-catastrophic midair collision. When the controller claims her innocence with extreme sternness, he quickly realizes that there is more to this story and the spit fire air traffic controller.
Sparks fly, chemistry ignites, a dangerous mystery and anonymous threats take the story up an intensity notch. Dane and Adria’s jobs have been a huge focus in their lives, now will they take a chance, put trust in each other and risk their jobs, safety and any furthering their careers?
I really loved this book. It was an easy, enjoyable, enchanting, fun read! The mystery was intriguing and the romantic chemistry electrifying! Donna Kauffman was highly descriptive and her research in the world of air traffic controllers was evident. This was a great romance to whisk you away into the lives of Dane and Adria’s. 5 Stars!
This copy of The Three Musketeers: Midnight Heat was given to me by Netgalley and Random House Publishing Group in exchange for an honest review.
My Review: This has been a great series and I have been really pleasantly surprised by just how much I have enjoyed all three books. The three books are tied together by three best friends who go by the Three Musketeers, but that is the only thing that ties these books. All three story lines are completely different. Although these guys stay in touch and lend a helping hand, they lead very different lives and are in completely different lines of work. As a result, while consistently good reads, each of these books reads very differently. They definitely don't follow a set story outline like so many series books do...and I liked that! You absolutely could read any of these books as a stand alone novel and never miss the other two, although I do recommend all three of them. They were good!
This book is about Dane, twin to Dara, the heroine in book #2 and of course one of the three musketeers. Dane is an airline accident investigator with a reputation for being ruthless and unfeeling about getting to the truth of what happened. (He has to be that way to get through these investigations which usually involve a lot of death and carnage.) Adria is thankful that he's on the case because she is an Air Traffic Controller and it was under her watch that two planes had an in-air collision. It was only because of amazing flying by the pilots that kept them from crashing and killing hundreds of people. BUT Adria wasn't at fault. There was a third airplane there which she swears was the plane that actually caused the accident, but now there is no evidence to support her claims. Something is wrong and it's up to Dane to figure out who is telling the truth.
The romance in this book was great. These are two people who absolutely CANNOT get involved while this investigation is going on, but they are tired, stressed, and at their limit and just can't help themselves. But they gave it a valiant effort...hehe. I liked these two characters. They have a lot in common in that they live for their jobs and both their jobs are on the line with this investigation, but as they get to know each other, they begin to realize just what exactly is important.
Then there is the whole suspense story line which I simply couldn't figure out. It was good and definitely kept me guessing up until the very end.
I've enjoyed all three of these books. I'm happy that I picked them up to read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
Good story, this is the first book in the series that I read & I am looking forward to reading the rest. These men seem captivating. This story in particular had well written characters, it's also apparently picking up where Born to Be Wild left off, which is great if you have read the other story (which I haven't done so yet).
Donna writes in a way that draws you in and allows you to fall in love with her characters. they are so well written & rounded that you feel like you know them. In this book she smoothly brings back the other characters without them taking over the book, but enhancing this story at the same time. I enjoyed how Adria & Dane met, especially because they both had to hold back their natural inclinations: to be a smart ass in Adria's case and rampant curiosity & attraction in Dane's care. Right away you could tell they were going to be a fun couple to read & they didn't disappoint.
Adria's & Dane's love & passion for flying planes & being around planes provided them with great common ground & so did their past, both having had tough times with deep loss. I loved that they were drawn to each other & decided to explore it. Despite everything going on around them they still made the decision to be together.
Adria has a few issues she needed to deal with and when it seems like Dane has gone against everything she thought they had, she decided to take matters in her own hands. That final confrontation between then was both sad and endearing because here were two people trying to decide if they were in it together or if they should stand behind their pride.
Poor Adria, her whole career in the balance, being threatened, a co-worker who allowed her to take the rap for him, considering their job, she actually was being foolish there, but I get helping out your friends. The only thing good out of this situtation had to be meeting Dane, and the family he brought along with him. A very good, quick read, I highly recommend this one as well as the rest of the series.
This is perhaps out of the two I read that is most dated, they talked of beepers, and payphones, while talking about cellphones, but I get it, some places still have payphones (not DC where they are but some still do)
Midnight Heat is book 3 in the Three Musketeers series by Donna. It was oringally printed in 1996 in Loveswept books. Now as a ebook. It is nice to look back at books that I had read long ago are now easy to read and store. Thier are love scenes in this novel that I skimmed over. Adria Burke is a air traffic controller. She is waiting in a room after a collision in the air with airplanes that she was in charge of. She was waiting for the Predator The National Transportation Safety Board invesestigator Dane Colbourne. Dane came into the room dressed in a tuxedo from his twins wedding. Dane looks very fine and serious. Looking over at the reports that he is thinking she looks to be at fault. Dane notice that she had a excellent record except for last few months got 2 reports and she did not fight back. Dane was surprised when adria is still is insisting that thier was a third plane in the air that was at fault. The plane came out of nowhere and than was gone again. The tapes do not back up Adria testimony. But Dane tells her that he won't give up till he finds the truth. Then someone talked to the newspaper and leaked that thier was more to the story. Dane thinks Adria is the one talking to a reporter. Adria then starts getting threatening phone calls in the middle of the night. Letting on that someone is watching her. Dane is getting pressure to close the case. He believe Adria beleves that thier is a third plane involved. Some drama and mystery. I like Dane and Adria character. Shows in thier background what made them who they are today. Dane has two good friends from childhood. They called themselves the Three Musketeers. They still are good friends and when Dane needs some more information and help they are thier. I was given this ebook to read in exchange for honest review from Netgalley. 10/08/2012 PUB Random House Publishing Group
Thanks to the publisher, Random House Publishing Group, and NetGalley for the chance to read this!
I loved the dynamics and banter between these characters. Oh boy this book had some moments in it, the chemistry between these two was off the charts. A very enticing read that will satisfy your need for romance – the suspense was lacking. It wrapped the series up perfectly - including seeing the HEA of the other 2 Musketeers.
This is the third & final book in the romantic suspense series, The Three Musketeers, by Donna Kauffman: – Midnight Heat is a re-issue of a Loveswept Classic Romance #776 originally published 02/96.
