More than four hundred "over 40" women share their views on the joys and challenges of life after 40, including some outrageous 40th birthday stories and Liz Curtis Higgs' own hilarious observations of life on the other side of 40. It's all original and mostly true! Not to mention, very funny.
Former Bad Girl, grateful for the grace God offers. Happy wife of Bill, one of the Good Guys. Proud mom of two grown-up kids with tender hearts. Lame housekeeper. Marginal cook. Pitiful gardener. Stuff I love? Encouraging my sisters in Christ—across the page, from the platform, online, in person. Unpacking Scripture. Traveling wherever God leads. Listening to His heart. Leaning into His embrace.
Very odd. This book was printed in 1997 when I was 52. I remarried for the third time when I turned 40. As I reread this book, I have a feeling of disconnect. I do not remember 40 being like it is described in this book. In fact, all of the points in this book actually applied to me at 60 (which I look back on fondly) Okay, realistically, maybe it did start at 50. A lot of fun bits and a stroll down memory lane for fashions etc. This is a book for women and boomer women at that so all the historical references are familiar to me.
I am not going to give this book a rating because I did not finish it. It really wasn't for me and I couldn't find the humor in it. I am the target audience, but not for me.
This one was fun! As someone who is in her early 40’s (which seems crazy!) this one appealed. It was written 25ish years ago so some of it’s a bit dated but it’s still accurate and good for laughs!
A funny look at why forty and over is more fun. Humorous anecdotes from women over 40 mixed in with hilarious stories from Liz's own life. One of my favorites: Reason 28 - Your mother visits you every day... in your mirror. aaahhh! A quick easy read.
