The gift was Emily Smith’s curse, and she’d have killed herself long ago if her mother hadn’t died giving birth to her autistic sister. The baby needed her, and that was enough to keep Emily in the world. She’d never known peace in her life; the curse kept them isolated and on the move as they sought to flee the spirits of the dead.
In the middle of the night, a flash of light and loud explosion awakened her from sleep, and Emily stepped out onto her porch to the most handsome man she’d ever seen walking towards her. The only problem was that he was so close to death his soul had come to her for final release.
Caught between the worlds of life and death, Koda finds his spirit wandering in a shadow world, driven towards the one light he can see in the darkness. He never expected to find the beautiful and compassionate woman who met him in the light, and he vowed to fight with everything left in his being for the one woman who could make him fight through the agony and darkness, to live.
As Emily struggles to find and save the body that goes with Koda’s spirit, she’s caught in a race against time that could cost them all their lives, or she could end up with the greatest gift of all—a mate and family of her own.
...or I would have been up all night reading straight through. I just couldn't stop hitting page turn in order to find out what happened next. I also cried and cheered in places. Definitely had to have some tissues handy.
Love the main characters and the intensity of their story. Emily wasn't afraid to tell Koda to stop feeling sorry for himself, helping him grow into a character the equal of his brothers. Emily, independent and self-sufficient, has a talent that has resulted in her living a hard life without tarnishing her spirit too much.
The secondary characters as always stand out, bringing delighted surprise at who they are and their happy for nows.
The story is so focused on Emily, Koda and some new characters that not having read the previous stories in the series should NOT be a concern. That said, it's exciting to see the overall plot develop, expand, twist and turn since Cari's story.
I highly recommend this book as well as others in the series and can't wait for the next one myself.
I couldn't really connect to the story or the characters. I dunno, even tho Koda want through so much, I always felt removed from the scene. Mainly because it wasn't as descriptive as it could have been.
I am a 70yr old pensioner and I love this series it's so full of everything and I thank the author for using unlimited as I can read everyone as it comes out can't wait for the next one .
Emily is a selfless but very determined woman. She's doing everything she can to take care of her baby sister. Koda is gravely injured but he's very lucky that Emily and Joey are willing to do anything to keep him alive. The secondary characters in this book are really likeable. This one isn't as action packed as the others but it has more scenes that require an inner strength to accomplish. There are a couple of twist too.
A woman who can commune with ghosts and the dead. A pilot who is dying after his escape pod is blown to pieces. Their lives are tied together by a gifted child and are kept alive by two ghosts and Gibly, a sibiox. Meantime They are being searched for high and low. This is a more spiritual story which looks into PTSD as well as other issues.
Now I will be on pins and needles until the next book is ready. I love all the First Wave Book by this author. I know the next book will lead them closer to the dark prime.
This was Emily and Koda's book and if you (like me) are into your alien love story every once in a while then this is a MUST read !! Out of all of the First Wave series, I liked this book the best......real true love !!!
Another great addition to the series. Can hardly wait until April for the next one. All the stories have been fresh, no replays of the same story with different names .
I have always lobbed this series, every installment that comes out add on to the story that was previously read. I love the flow And complexity. Great writing!!!
