This book provides a nice overview of the various waves of German immigration to the United States. I now have a better understanding of why my German ancestors left the old world, and why they settled where they did in the new.

Although the book was written in the 1970s, it still gives the reader a lot of information in an easily digestible way. It is a good book for the general reader.

This book provides a comprehensive overview of German-Americans throughout the nation’s history. The book is broken up into different parts which focus on the different waves of German emigration to America from before the nation’s founding up until what the book considers the present day (1970s.) There are also sections that cover the arts, sciences, newspapers, and religious beliefs of the emigrants - their culture.
