John and Papa Midnight are Neron's prisoners in Hell. But John is just the guy with friends in low places that might just be able to help him escape.
There are some interesting story points in this chapter. I kinda dig Neron's big plan to sell magical power to mortals in exchange for souls. Kind of the ultimate drug dealer! And the soul trade is a big part of the City of Dis where this chapter takes place. Doyle and Tynion create a cool location here and their background on the City is very cool. I enjoyed that part quite a bit!
There's also some fun dialogue between John and Midnight that comes in bursts throughout the issue. There's a sort of "buddy movie" feel to their banter and some truly funny lines. The way they work, and bicker, together is very fun.
The overall plot is pretty basic - an on the lam chapter - that wraps up pretty much exactly the way I thought it would. While there are individual elements I enjoy, the whole thing doesn't really hold together for me. It just seems like this series is kind of a collected set of bits that kind of build to a story. Also not really a big fan of the artwork. Just seems sketchy and disordered.
There are things to like here, but it's not blowing me away.
