Mars has been a source of fascination since H. G. Wells wrote The War of the Worlds, a sci-fi fantasy of green-eyed Martians invading and overpowering Earth. In 1971, engineers succeeded in placing a spacecraft into Mars's orbit with the idea of finding out what was on Mars: Intelligent life? Water? A place people on Earth could move if need be? Since then, a number of missions to Mars have been launched. Now is your chance to help launch the Mars Exploration Rover. Do you have what it takes to succeed?
I don't generally like "choose your own adventure" style books, because I am a linear thinker, and like to read from page to page, rather than skipping around here and there. Fortunately, it worked to just read this book page to page anyway, without it getting confusing. The book is written in the second person, with "you" being either a scientist or an engineer working on any one of a number of missions to Mars. Several different missions are described, mostly from the 1990s to the present day. Interesting facts about what has been discovered about Mars so far.
Mars is the closest planet to Earth and has always been a source of fascination to those who dwell on this planet. In 1971, engineers succeeded in placing a spacecraft into Mars' orbit with the intent of finding out what was on Mars. Would there be life on Mars? Water? A viable place for humans to settle?
In this choose-your-own-ending book, the reader's choices may propel the project to success or failure. It is an engaging method to spark readers' interest in past and future space exploration and projects. Readers are bound to return to the story several times to adjust their responses and tailor the outcomes.
