SUMMARY: Check out all of the mind-bending, wacky, and wild facts about ancient history.
REVIEW: Small interesting book that shares crazy trivia facts about ancient history with one fact per page along with a picture. OK book, quick read, a few interesting, all wacky, and a few gross.
Did you know that ancient Egyptians used a paste made from mice to cure toothaches? Or that in ancient China spies set sail on giant kites? Quick gross, gruesome, and interesting facts peppered with academic language makes this a great read for reluctant middle grade readers. This is a super quick read with large font and illustrations. Most of the facts center on ancient Greece, ancient Rome, ancient China, and ancient Egypt.
There was a lot of really interesting (and wacky) information in here, but there wasn't much explanation, if any. I wish there was a bit more story to each of the facts or some notes on where to find more information so that my students could use this book as a jumping off point for research.
Drones, highly manouverable unmanned aircraft, are in the news, in toy stores, and are also used by newscasters and armed forces alike. Readers will discover how pilots remotely operate aircraft from the surface. They will also learn how drones can be used to visit places other aircraft cannot reach, why drones are important to modern military operations, and why these unmanned aircraft are so controversial.
Well-researched, packed with facts, and enlivened with many colorful photographs, “Drones,” will be the go-to book for student researchers and technology fans alike.
