I was sent this book to review. I have a couple of issues with the formatting: section headers are left on one page and the paragraph begins on the next; and some acronyms aren't defined until mid-paragraph. These things I could normally overlook, but when paired with incomplete and inaccurate safety information, I cannot recommend this book.
Throughout the book you'll find the term "pure therapeutic grade essential oil." There is no government agency that regulates essential oils and there is no standard for essential oil purity. "Therapeutic grade" is a marketing term, not a standard.
My next concern about safety is with "culinary preparations" and ingestion. The safety information states "never take more than 1 or 2 drops in water at one time." Water an oil do not mix; therefore, you're not diluting the oil in the water.
When discussing dilution of oils for topical use, the book states to dilute and to "heavily dilute" when using on children, but does not give dilution ratios.
In the section about about GERD, the research cited was about tumeric and ginger essential oils used on rats.
I stopped reading halfway through the DIY Gut Protocol. Once I saw the book was heavily geared toward internal use of essential oils, I couldn't continue.
If you are comfortable with ingesting oils without the guidance of a certified aromatherapist, then you may find this book useful. I am not. I believe a home essential oil user can use essential oils safely topically and aromatically. I do not believe the same for ingestion.
