Lena was a young, beautiful, Naturalista living single in a city that never slept. With a stable job and a blossoming career in blogging, she decided that she’d had enough of the dating scene and was taking some time to get to know herself. But as it often does, love appeared without being sought after, and Lena could no longer avoid it. It had been an entire year since she started her dating fast when out of nowhere, she bumped into a handsome stranger by the name of Braxton. She didn’t expect to be swept off her feet so quickly but sometimes, if you’re lucky, that’s exactly how love works. Unfortunately, after dating for a short time, Lena and Braxton discovered that there was something standing in the way of their happily ever after; something so major that neither of them were willing to compromise, even if it meant the end of their relationship. If you’ve ever been in love, I’m sure you’ll understand that it can make you do things you said you’d never do. “Lena” takes us on a humorous, romantic, heart wrenching journey of love and its ability to evoke change.
Sabrina B. Scales is a national best-selling author of vibrant and passionate romance whose unique style of writing highlights real stories about real people falling in real love, and can be attributed to her humble upbringing in a small town in Southeast Texas, where happy endings were usually the result of hard work.
Each chapter ended on an exclamation point - that was very annoying and I felt like I was always excited. The writing was ok, but still needs some work to get the amount of depth necessary to be a good book. Braxton was one dimensional and I don't think you got the best read on him. Lena...she was very meh.
Now, the end...***Spoilers***... There is no way in this world, no reason, no excuse, that someone should take someone back just like that, because he lost his family. The dude was so unavailable, he would've stayed unattached. One look at his new daughter, one break down with talking about his past and bam he is all in. Seriously - that doesn't even make sense. They were together over 4 years and she didn't know about his past? That's exactly why she did it all alone.
This was a good refreshing love story. No dope boy, no killers, no crazy hood mess......just pure love, a scared and hurt man, and a woman who wouldn't give up on him.
This story played out like a neo-love song, slathered in Shea Butter and Coconut Oil!! I enjoyed it, but that damn Braxton....whew! I've never come across a character I've hated as much as I hate Mr. from The Color Purple!!!
From the beginning I knew it had to be super deep for a man to love a woman so much, that they were basically one, for him to leave so abruptly once she got pregnant. Braxton seemed to really love Lena so I knew there was more to the story than him just not wanting a baby for him to leave.
As the story progressed, I was actually glad that his mom stepped up in his place.
Losing people the way that Braxton did crippled him and I wished he'd gotten some grief counseling.
The ending was pretty abrupt, yet I'm glad Brandon was able to finally tell Lena his truth.
This started off so good, but then I started to hate it as it went on. How were they together for 4 years and this pertinent information was NEVER shared between them? And regardless of that information, it was no excuse for Braxton to do what he did and to take as much time as he did to come around. Then for Lena to be so easy about this severe infraction he committed during an important time... I was too aggravated with both of them. This is not a love story I can get behind. It shouldn't take 4 years for someone to share something that would have such drastic consequences. Like WTH did they talk about if they didn't talk about his past too? Ugh.
*Spoilers* I feel as if this book was missing the love story. Lena dated Braxton for four years and knows nothing about his past relationships. She knew he didn’t want kids but got off birth control and didn’t tell him. Gets pregnant and wait weeks to tell him. Then he leaves her for the duration of her pregnancy and she adamant that he has his reasons. Although he never once tells her anything except that he doesn’t want kids.
The grandma steals her baby and Braxton finally looks at his daughter and tells about his painful past. And given his hesitation to have kids one would think he would also be hesitant in dating again. But I digress. From there it’s all I love you and happily ever after. Like what? No. Lena simply forgives him after he abandons her because he lost his wife and kids. Maybe if this happened when she was a few months pregnant and they worked through his issues it’ll be more believable. But as it is I couldn’t get into it.
Lena is a quiet warrior! Her story is one to stick with even when you want to throw the tablet or book across the room. Lena could be a sister, friend or anyone loving when others would stopped long ago. Her journey thru love is a different path with a few surprises.
Lena was a little timid. But I guess she just wanted to be loved & to love. I knew something was going on with Braxton but I couldn't figure out what. When he finally told it, I was a little shocked. I definitely kept feeling like his mother was up to something but she really wasn't until she ran off. The story was pretty good for a first.
This is my first book by Sabrina and I loved it. I really wanted to beat Braxton almost the entire book, but the surprise at the end somewhat saved him. I am going to go see what else Ms Sabrina has to offer.
Nice story, I didn’t expect that ending and I don’t know if I would have been so forgiving. I understand that what Braxton went through was tragic but he had another chance at happiness, I’m glad they got it.
I liked the story. However I feel that the lead male character was an asshole tube way he left her like that. I get the gist that it's just a story... I rolled my eyes towards the end... No need for him to be an asshole. BTW I Love Sabrina Scales. Very good author
Lena is a G! Like, she's the definition of ride or die. I'm not waiting...but what do I know? Nothing. Braxton got on my last nerve with the shenanigans! However, I understand. I didn't see the end coming like that.
Swoon worthy love story. Lena and Braxton had such a sweet love story. Even with Braxton's absence during Lena's pregnancy the love they had for each other was so strong and genuine. Really enjoyed this book.
Lena and Braxton were the ideal couple in many ways. They shared many of the same interest, and had a connection that bordered on spiritual. Braxton, however did not want children. Four years into the relationship Lena found out she was pregnant with Braxton's baby. A baby he did not want. Would the baby change his mind, or will the baby drive him away? The answer to that question and the conclusion was Dumfounding...
I couldn't put the book down. I wanted to know would Braxton come back, why was he acting the way that he was, & what secrets he was holding in to. Overall I enjoyed this book. I will be telling others about it.
