Bear Actually: BBW Shape Shifter Paranormal Romance Truli Thorne

Reviewed by SFF Dragon

A good plot, great characters, funny moments, a little steam and a HEA. I absolutely loved this terrific paranormal romance.

I love Truli Thorne's books and 'Bear Actually', the third in her Shifters in Seattle series is a terrific way to while away a couple of hours. I was hooked from the first sentence and really didn't want to put it down. I absolutely loved it and can't wait for the next one in this wonderful series.

Cleo Jones loves her job as a Cultural Affairs Assistant to hot and hunky Mayor of Seattle, Peter Conrad, and enjoys their daily session of flirty banter before their professional personas make an appearance. She gets on well with him and their relationship is strictly professional but she can't help drooling every time she watches him walk away. Wowser!. Her best friends Amy and Steph are both blissfully happy being mated to werebears, and Cleo wants that kind of happiness for herself. But she has a problem and finds out the two years she thought she had left to have children is suddenly cut to two days. She needs a plan of action, and she needs it now...

Werebear Peter Conrad knows that Cleo is his true mate, and it's killing him. He really wants to finish the remaining two years of his current term in office before telling anyone he's a shifter, and despite knowing she has friends in the shifter community, that includes Cleo. Then she suddenly accepts his regular Friday invitation to dinner. Stunned by her abrupt change of heart, he's also over the moon and his bear is happily doing backflips, but he can't let the cat, or rather the bear, out of the bag yet, then Cleo is kidnapped...

I don't want to give spoilers but there's a lot going on in this story, with great characters and funny moments, along with a good plot, a steamy bit or two and the happily ever after we all expect. The bad guy, despite his apparent intelligence, is seriously stupid and more than a little deranged. I saw it immediately and was left sputtering in disbelief that he'd blithely overlooked the obvious danger in his plan and thought he could actually get away with it. Did I mention he was deranged? For a guy with such a high IQ, he'd have a really tough time beating a salad bar in competition if a brain was needed. Colour me happy and bring on the next one. I can't wait.

I was given a copy of 'Bear Actually' by the author in exchange for an honest review, and I absolutely loved it. I'm very picky about the books I read and only give 5 stars to the ones I'd rescue if the house was burning down. This is very definitely one of those books.

Complete Shifters in Seattle Series
1. You've Got Bear
2. Bear With Benefits
3. Bear Actually
4. It Happened One Bear
5. About a Bear

They also come in a one volume set titled "Shifters in Seattle"

I came across this series while looking for one about wolf shifters I had read years ago and could not resist. Now I am glad I didn't.

Finally Cleo the final room mate gets her story. Funny sexy and vivacious Cloe would love to get to know her boss, his Honor the Mayor, better, but he's a player and she's holding out for a shifter, Unlike her friends she wants a wolf, not a bear. Now all that has changed, due to a congenital disease this is her last chance to get pregnant and she has her eye on Peter Conrad, to be the father, not that he'll ever know. She wants him for one night, than he can go on his way, none the wiser.

Peter has two more years left on his final term then he will claim his mate until it is okay to flirt and look, but not to touch his beautiful assistant Cleo. When Cleo suddenly starts to flirt back and takes him up on his offer for dinner Peter is not one to question Fate. Maybe he won't have to wait to claim his mate. Then his life is thrown into turmoil. A crazy man is threatening to expose Peter and the shifter community to the world. Placing them all in danger. When he kidnaps Cloe, Peter is ready to show the man exactly what a shifter will do to protect his mate.

So much more than a paranormal romance, you will chuckle and hold your breath over the suspense. This is a story for lovers of the paranormal, shifters and intrigue with a little humor thrown in. Witty dialog and bold personalities. I may move to Seattle myself.

My rating of "Bear Actually- Shifters in Seattle Book 3 - BBW Bear Shifter Paranormal Romance" is 4.75 out of 5 stars.

This was a great story and I really enjoyed seeing Cleo and Peter get their HEA. The book description does give a pretty good explanation of the story and I don't want to get into spoilers so I'll keep this short. Cleo is a fun heroine without being an over-the-top party girl that gets annoying...I found I did like her. I liked the banter between Cleo and Peter and understood why they both held off from something together for a while (until things came to a head).

There is a side plot that actually is very good and helps make the story more interesting and engaging. Peter had a lot on his plate between Cleo and the side issue but he dealt with everything very well. Cleo had some issues with assumptions and misunderstandings but she didn't go overboard with her reaction and I liked that. Overall, I really liked both Cleo and Peter and really enjoyed their story so I'd definitely recommend this story. :)

Title: Bear Actually
Series: Shifters in Seattle
Note: Book 3 in the series but it is a standalone with a happy ending
Author: Truli Thorne

This is my review of Bear Actually, the third book in the Shifters in Seattle Series. I got this third book in the series free in exchange for an honest review. This is the continuation of a great world and it can be read as a standalone with no cliffhanger ending, it is the whole story. Be warned though you will not want to stop with just this one book and you will want to know the whole series. The characters mentioned show up in the previous books. The book moves at a good pace and keeps you interested. Do keep in mind that things will be mentioned from the first and second book in this review.

This book is about the last amigo, or last roommate standing, Cleo. Cleo is Amy and Steph's roommate. She is feeling a bit left out since both her friends have found their fated mates. She has great friends and a great job working for the incredibly hot Mayor, Peter, who she can't stop thinking about. Cleo is happy with her life and it all changes in the blink of the eye when she gets important medical information from her doctor about her one fear coming to life. She has limited time to get pregnant and have the child she wants before she will become infertile. Thanks to the fact she is not in a stable relationship she decides to try to trick her boss, Peter, into becoming an unwilling sperm donor for her child. One problem with this scenario... Peter knows that Cleo is his fated mate and as a result he can tell something is now bothering her when she suddenly agrees to go on a date with him. With her biological clock literally on its last legs her plan gets thrown out of wack by a psycho who wants to use her to get to Peter. Will Cleo survive and get her baby in time? Only you can answer that by reading the book. :) I felt sad for poor Cleo and then a little annoyed that she was going to try to trick someone into getting her pregnant but you can understand why she is doing it.

for months she has worked for the mayor and for exact the same amount of time did she thwart his advances, no matter how much she enjoyed their weekly banter when he tries to ask her out.
but when cleo goes to her doctor appointment and is given not so good news she knows time isn't on her side if she wants to be a mother! she's not looking for a relationship but she does want a good natural donor for her baby, her clock is ticking! for her there is only one prime candidate and that's her direct boss, the mayor. for months she avoided him and now she's done doing that. much to his surprise, when she tells him she changed her mind about the date. the smile appearing on his face shows that his interest in her was probably more then the fun weekly banter and really wanted to go out with her.
peter doesn't know where to go with his happiness when cleo finally accepts his invitation for dinner. for months his bear has been pining away for her, the one his bear said was their mate. he agreed 100% but he had to be careful, nobody but a select few knew he was a bear. shifters weren't "out" and him being mayor didn't make it easy on him to pursue his mate or not. that she worked for him was the only thing that kept his bear in check all the time.
but then some hot shot lawyer steps in and threatens to ruin it all!
oblivious to cleo a lot is happening all around her and when details start trickling in there is more then just her own clock ticking for time!

blackmail and danger, friendships tested, love blooming, secrets shared. all ingredients for a good book. lovely addition to this series, a few familiar faces that ties the books nicely together, love it!
if you read the books prior to this one, then you just have to get this one too.

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.

In this book we get Cleo's story as well as we are introduced to Peter. When this book opens we have Cleo and Peter doing there typical flirt/banter back and forth. Cleo reminds Peter that she has a doctor appointment and will be taking a long lunch. Steph and Amy are there though to make sure she isn't going at it alone. The minute the nurse calls her name she knows what the results will be she only has till the age of 30 to get pregnant. Being 28 she knows her time is limited so she needs to look for a candidate to fill that position ASAP. So far the best man she can think of is Peter but can she get him to get her pregnant and walk away.

Peter knows he has found his mate. He even knows that she knows about shifters so she won't freak out on him when he tells her what he is and what she is to him. However being the mayor he needs to keep the secret for a bit longer. He is hoping when this term is done he can finally claim his mate and have the family he really wants. That however is still 2 years off and there is something happening with his mate and he is afraid he is losing her before he has even had her. Though there is more trouble then what might be happening with his mate he knows he has to figure out everything and quick or more people than himself have something to loose.

This is an amazing book about finding love and fighting for the chance at a HEA. I am a fan of this series and each of the books can be read as a stand alone. I would highly recommend this book and all of the books in this series.

Cleo has climbed the ranks in the Mayors office. He is a fair employer and let's face it easy on the eyes!! Her friends have all recently found love and Cleo is slowly being led into the shifter world hiding in Seattle. She doesn't care that her friends lovers turn into animals - as long as they love her girls she's happy. If she could find a shifter of her own she'd be even happier.

When Cleo gets devastating news she finally gives into the weekly dinner requests by her boss, Peter Conrad, and proceeds to get royally hammered!!! Peter realises that there is something eating away at Cleo and takes her home with him to look after. But he's got problems of his own. Some scummy lawyer is trying to blackmail him into getting rid of another shifter - unaware the Peter is one too!!!

Peter knows Cleo is his mate but wanted to keep a low profile while in office, but when things take a turn for the scary and Cleo is put in harms way, look out world there is an pee'd off bear on the prowl!!!

Great, fast paced read. Cleo is adorable when she tries to be detached in her quest for a baby daddy! She's really not cut out for unemotional hook ups. Peter is a great mayor but if he keeps putting the city first he might just lose his mate!!! I loved the ending - talk about going out with a bang!!

Fabulous!

Amazing Ms. Thorne has done a phenomenal job writing this story. It is so easy to read and review her books when each sentence flows smoothly from each page to the end. And you want to see what's coming next you can't put the book down.
Cleo likes her job working for the mayor, they joke around and mayor asks her to dinner and of course she said no this happens every Friday. But today is different Cleo has a secret and in order to provide for that secret she needs the mayor's help. What if the mayor won't help her?
Mayor Peter Conrad loved Seattle and as Mayor let him work with people to help clean up his city. Peter had a secret, you see he is a bear shifter but no human knows because his political career would be over, he has two more years left. But sometimes having a secret is hard to hide. I was gifted this ARC for an honest and truthful review.

Truli Thorne is truly gifted.. I read this book then went back and read the other again in order to see the bigger picture. Yes everyone of the books as thier own story but the girls in each book area cube st friends so it make it so much closer to the heart. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review... And as I said the book is truly captivating. The story is about Cleo and Peter, plus how the news of him being a shifter came to light. Cleo is a cultural affairs assistant to the mayors office. And Peter is the mayor, plus a bear shifter. Cleo just found out some bad news and needs Peter to make it better. But will he? Or is there some one else? Peter has known Cleo is the one for him but has not made a move because he is the mayor and has other things and people who depend on him. It's not that she isn't important but he believes he is saving her from a heartache. Now there is some one out to hurt him and his kind..Will he wake up and smell the coffee before it's too late? What is wrong with Cleo? Who is out to hurt him?

Mayor Peter Conrad knows that his receptionist Cleo is his mate, but he's hiding a secret ! Which he hopes to reveal to her once his term in office is up in 2 years time when he can tell her she's his mate and they can start a family but what he doesn't know is that Cleo has just found out she has a rare genetic disorder that means if she doesn't have a baby now she'll never be able to have one.
Cleo thinks Peter would be the ideal baby daddy and sets her sights on seducing him intent on getting the baby she desperately wants before it's too late.
When events threaten to expose Peter's secret and put Cleo in danger, both their futures are in jeopardy.
Will they get their happy ending ? You'll have to read it to find out.
This is a short, sweet and fun read with lovable characters all together they are making an enjoyable series.

Another amazing story! Wonderfully written. Very engaging. I didn't want to put it down. Cleo is the mayor, Peter Conrad's assistant. He flirts with her all the time but she never took him seriously. Peter knows she is his mate but wants to be marble and wait till his term is too before he pursues her. Fate has something else in mind and let's it be known when Cleo goes to see the doctor for a special exam. Can she convince him to hazel her or Will she decide to take advantage of him? Will him being a bear shifter cause problems?

I was given this e-book by the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. My conclusions are my own. I was not compensated in any way

Book number 3 does not disappoint. Cleo (human) & Peter (bear shifter) story is just as amazing as the other two. The twists and turns as you draw you further into the book, you become part of the book. The characters come alive & you because invested. A totally worthy book to read. I recommend this series.

Peter Conrad is mayor of Seattle and finds himself being blackmailed and his mate Cleo threatened. Cleo wants a baby but her medical condition makes the want and need of a baby a must in the next few days and her boss is just the man for the job.

I received an advanced copy of this book for an honest review. This is book 3 of the series Shifters in Seattle by the author. Each book is a very good HEA standalone.
