I loved this story- it's original and engaging. Also well-written and well-edited. The storyline pulled me in where I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. I'm a Kammer fan!
I loved the uniqueness of this book. I know it is not for everybody but this book is quite interesting. I have heard about hysteria back then and I have heard about these kinds of treatments and it was quite interesting to read this author’s take on the subject.
Reviewed on behalf of 2 Girls Who Love Books Blog The pleasure device OK. …… so I really didn't expect to read what I have just read and considering this book was first published in 2013 I was surprised I haven't heard of it before. This story is set in a period era which to be honest was really refreshing from the typical billionaire bad boys that are all the rage at the moment. The writing style was incredible and was well adapted to suit the time period the story came from. I love reading about how things were so different back then to how we see things now and this story left nothing to the imagination. It throws you in right from the very start of the book and is action packed! Follow Doctors in a period when illness really wasn't well understood it follows doctors believing that female pleasure (or lack of!) Was the cause for certain illnesses. If you enjoy historical novels with a dirty twist then be sure to give this book a try! I rate this story 5 stars.
I loved this more than I thought I would. Definitely not just a very steamy book. This is an explicit erotic historical romance.
You would think with so much schtupping between all the characters there to be jealousy at play and a lot of angst, but there isn’t. This is the first time I’ve read a romance where open relationships were not something taboo or contrived.
I loved all of the characters and couldn’t wait to see how it ended. Even the villain, is a bit sympathetic.
I’m delighted that there are more books in the series. I’ve got a new author to follow.
3.50/4.0 Hmmn, this is a tough one. My first overtly erotica romance novel. I liked it, but I wish the characters had greater depth. Nicholas, the main character seemed immature and given his travels not very interesting. I think authors forget that one would derive more sexual pleasure in reading these types of books if you had a greater attachment to the characters/story. Like any good book, it would help with the fantasy if the world that is created is one you want to be part of.
Character Chemistry: “I’m hot. You’re hot. Plus you don’t shame me for reading dirty books. It’s love!”
Plot: Amidst all the boinking, Nicholas must save the pure and innocent Helena from the depraved sex doctor and his seductive vibrator.
Overall: How do you feel about medical ethics in your erotica?
First off, a genre note: while this book is sometimes classified as an Erotic Romance, I would put it firmly on the Erotica shelf. I know, I know, classification and semantics, who cares about this tiny distinction? Well. I do and this is my review.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. We disclose this in accordance with 16 CFR §255.
This was a very original and surprising historical romance. The world was well described and the personalities and actions of the characters seemed to fit into the era in which the story was set.
I liked Helena and Nicholas, but I didn’t love them. I thought their interactions felt stilted at times. I appreciate this may be because of the historical nature of the story, but I didn’t find myself totally invested in their relationship.
I have to say that the title of the book itself did not draw me in, but I am glad I looked beyond the title page. I really liked getting to know more about the ‘bad guy’ in the story. It is unusual to get to see things from their perspective, even if that perspective is lecherous and unfeeling.
This was an enjoyable and very different read … I received a copy of this book from the author via Quirky Blind Date with a Book
Actual rating: 2.5 stars. Points for interesting historical bits, but my dislike of the mom was too great. Combine that with some stuff from Nicholas and I just can't give it three stars.
Side Note: The second book in this series goes back in time to focus on Helena's parents. Why on Earth would I want to read a book about the mom? She was such a weak person! She basically serves her daughter up on a silver platter.
This novel is mostly erotica. While I don't have a problem with that, I did have some issues with the story itself. My main issue was with the morality of the characters....all of them. While sometimes you have a few immoral characters in a novel, in this one, they were all committing questionable acts. I tend to like my heroes and heroines to be people with honor. This lack of ethical behavior was disturbing in it's flippancy. I just started not really caring what happened to all of them. By the end of the book, I was glad it was over. But I do have to say that the sex scenes and erotic content was sizzling. I just wish there were redeeming characters to go along with it.
