Einstein's Peep Show

Rate this book
Nerdy by day, naughty by night!

Nathan Wright has a secret life. During the day he’s a dedicated student, working hard for his maths degree. But times are tough, and in order to make ends meet by night he becomes “Einstein”, wooing punters with his online solo sex show. Still wounded by his last dysfunctional relationship, Nathan’s happy being single. But when his highest tipping client demands it, Einstein has to overcome his social awkwardness to rope in some extra help.

>Party boy Rory Jones has never given his geeky neighbour a second glance, but he’s not one to turn down the offer of a free blow job, even when Nathan tells him it’s going online. Once on camera, Rory discovers his exhibitionist streak and the two of them are so hot together, the one-off becomes a regular gig.

But being neighbours with benefits isn’t without its challenges. Nathan’s client keeps wanting more, and he finds himself pushed into a role he’s not prepared for. Meanwhile Rory’s growing affection leaves him worried his ultra-rational lover won’t ever be able to share his emotions. If he and Nathan can’t find something more than great sex in common, they’ll be left with the square root of absolute zero.

English through and through, Josephine Myles is addicted to tea and busy cultivating a reputation for eccentricity. She writes gay erotica and romance, but finds the erotica keeps cuddling up to the romance, and the romance keeps corrupting the erotica. She blames her rebellious muse but he never listens to her anyway, no matter how much she threatens him with a big stick. She's beginning to suspect he enjoys it.

Nerdy Nathan and blue-collar Rory are neighbors, but Rory pays Nathan no mind until one day Nathan offers him a blow job. And then asks how big his cock is. Rory is understandably flummoxed, but only for a minute.

Because. Blow job.

But there's a catch: the fellatio will take place live on camera.

To put himself through school, Nathan offers voyeurs who dig British boys a chance to see one in action, and his best customer, BigDick, er, BigMan wants to see Nathan go down on a giant cock, just like his own (BigMan's that is).

I had a lot of fun with this story. Nathan is gun-shy and adorably clueless, and Rory dedicated to making Nathan his, even when Nathan proclaims that love is nothing more than a chemical reaction.

I love the way Myles writes. Einstein's Peep Show is clever, KINKY, charming, and so very funny!

This one was a quick, fun read.

Really enjoyed the premise. Two neighbors, one with an online sex show who needs a willing participant for a blowjob and one who isn't about to turn down a free blowjob.

I loved Nathan's awkwardness, it reminded me of Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory. The banter between Rory and Nathan was laugh out loud funny.

I liked their chemistry. Yeah, I would have liked a bit more build up and development of the relationship but for a novella it wasn't bad.

This was my first Josephine Myles read, I'll definitely be checking out her other stuff.

“Did you just ask how big my knob is?”
Nathan stuck his chin out. “I need to know.”
“Why does it matter to you?”
“B-because I need to perform fellatio on someone with an above average sized penis in the next ten minutes.”

And that's how it all starts!

The only thing Nathan and Rory have in common, is that they both live on the same floor of an apartment building.

Nathan is a nerd. A nerd with glasses (this is important). He just got out of a bad relationship and is focused on his studies 95% of his time. During the remaining 5% he's busy working. As a camera model with his own online solo sex show! Yes, that's right, Nathan is very naughty. And now his online, um...."boss" wants him to stop performing solo. And Rory is more than willing to help.

Rory is a shift manager. He's super hot and the furthest thing from a nerd. In Nathan's words, he's a tanned and tattooed hunk of manliness." But in reality, Rory is one big, goofy teddy bear who likes to snuggle after sex.

Who cares if it's just a hook up? Who cares if it's just for the camera? Rory wants to cuddle afterwards, dammit!

As expected, feelings start getting in the way, and Rory has to get awkward, emotionally detached and over-analytical Nathan, to open up.

Extra points for the completely hilarious fake porn talk. I was laughing so hard, I made people worried!

“Do me good and hard. Conquer me with your big, fat battering ram.”[...]

“That’s it, my little fuck-pony. Make some noise. Whinny your appreciation for my mighty purple-headed yoghurt slinger.”

All ends well, and we get a HEA that made me feel all warm and...cuddly.

Definately recommended, for when you need something light, filthy and funny!

Rory gets home one day to find his cute, nerdy neighbor on his doorstep asking him if he’s gay.

“Yes, fine. I’m a flaming homo. And I’m about to go into my flat and do outrageously queer things, possibly involving the contents of my salad drawer.” Not that any cucumbers lurked in there at the moment, but it sounded kinkier than using a plain old dildo.

Nathan, the neighbor, needs Rory to have some sex on camera so that Nathan can satisfy his webcam client and earn enough money to get him through university.

Rory decides to make it a good show.

“Make some noise while I slide in slowly,” he whispered to Nathan, before raising his voice. “Yeah, baby. Feels so lush in your tight little fudge tunnel.”

“That’s it, my little fuck-pony. Make some noise. Whinny your appreciation for my mighty purple-headed yoghurt slinger.”

So romantic when it’s just the two of them too.

Why did he have so many problems using the right slang terms? You’d think he’d have got used to them all by now. “I want to shag you. Fuck you. Stick my dick in you and waggle it around till we both come.

This was fun!

Cute, just what I needed after my previous book. Although I thought the relationship progress went pretty fast after their 'fight'. Oh, and please let that be the last time for me to read anaconda to describe penis during sex. Or chocolate starfish to describe ass-hole. *shudders*

A little clarification
Oh, if you read the comments, you need to know that the anaconda and chocolate starfish lines are NOT to be taken seriously. It was rather said in humorous context; in a cheeky way. Still, some words cannot be unread and my eyes (or brain) would need a bleach *lol*

4.5 stars!!

Take one emotionally and socially slightly stunted, slightly nerdy young man who's running an internet solo sex show to pay for this university education, studying maths. Relatively fresh out of a relationship with an abusive jerk, Nathan is quite happy being single, studying and attending classes during the day and putting on a show for cash at night. He doesn't have friends and doesn't go out, content to be on his own.

But then his highest-tipping online client wants him to perform on camera with someone else, and what better candidate than Nathan's neighbor Rory, who lives also by himself across the corridor.

Rory is about as opposite from Nathan as he can be - happy-go-lucky, partying when he can, working a job he likes okay as a warehouse shift manager, and not much aspiration to move up in the world. He reminded me of a big teddy bear with a huge, kind heart, and while he's described as super hot (by Nathan), he doesn't give the impression that he's all about looks.

Considering how short this book is, it surely packs a punch. As Nathan and Rory fumble their way through their first performance, and then additional ones, Rory starts to develop tender feelings for his neighbor that far surpass the neighborly relationship and move into romance. See, Rory is a cuddler. He doesn't mind getting off for show, but he isn't happy with having to go home right after the show is done.

And poor Nathan, full of self-doubt and unable to read between the lines, takes everything so very literal, to the point that Rory has to patiently explain himself. Repeatedly.

All of this is told in such fabulous Britspeak, and it warmed my cynical heart. I adore Jo's happy little stories. She picked a fantastic plotline for this one, something I haven't read before, and made it completely her own, in her own special way.

It's chockful of hilariously awkward situations (see Nathan and Rory talk about "knobs"), emotions, humor, and some snark, and sexy times full of giggles. But there's also a bit of heartache, and anger (on my side), when we find out how badly Nathan's been hurt before, and yet perseveres in going his own way.

A quick and fun read, perfect to devour during your lunch hour, I'd recommend this to anyone who loves a sweet M/M romance.

Fantastic, Jo. I can't wait to read more of yours.

If I had a dollar for every time I was told a story must have conflict to drive it, I’d be rich. If I had a dollar for every time I called Bullshit, I’d be twice as rich. I enjoy a story full of angst from time to time, but there are times I want to read a feel good story. So thank goodness for books like this.

As the blurb and the opening line of the book lead me to believe, this is a very smutty, often funny, not everything is as it seems, jolly good read.

I really enjoyed the unique plot. For me to enjoy a story, no matter the genre or plot, I have to become invested in the characters. I found myself caring about Rory and Nathan right from the get-go. They were simply adorable!

I am adept with British language so had no issue with that. However, I did struggle with the constant use of the word ‘knob’! Not because I’m new to the word, but like with any word used repeatedly it begins to wear thin. By the end of the story I had a picture of a large handle with a door knob on the end of it every time one of the guys referred to his dick as his knob! I’m sure others will find it hilarious.

Speaking of hilarious, as fore mentioned this story has it in bucket loads. The webcam scenes are sexy and laugh out loud funny at the same time.

If you’re looking for a light, albeit dirty little story, you can’t go wrong with this one.

Josephine Myles is relatively fresh for me. I think I've read one other by her. This read was entertaining to say the least.

What would you do if your geeky-but-cute-in-his-own-way neighbor knocked on your door and asked how many inches you were packing? Because he needs to perform fellatio on someone in the next 10 minutes on camera. WHAAAAAAT???????

Rory really hears this come out of Nathan's mouth. And he's single....and well, who turns down a NSA blowjob? Not Rory.

Nathan is putting himself through grad school by performing lone sexual acts on camera for money. Until a high-paying client wants someone in the room with Nathan. Enter the closest person Nathan can find who he wouldn't exactly mind sexing up.

Nathan is.....odd. He has a literal mind...... literally. He thinks and acts like all my medical textbooks describe Asperger's. It's never mentioned with a label. He's just got a really interesting way of thinking. Picture Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory, but nicer. And British.

The best part of the book was the fake porn talk that Rory and Nathan engage in as they continue to perform acts on camera. It's like a race to see who can come up with the most awful, hilarious one-liners.

Where this book fell shy for me was the instalove. I just didn't feel a natural progression of a relationship. I was told of Rory's feelings and Nathan's feelings, but I never got the connection.

If you're looking for a funny, feel good, short story, you'll enjoy this. It's just not that deep. Surface entertainment is there though.

“You what?” Surely he hadn’t heard that right. “Did you just ask how big my knob is?”
Nathan stuck his chin out. “I need to know.”
“Why does it matter to you?”
“B-because I need to perform fellatio on someone with an above average sized penis in the next ten minutes.”

I am never, and I mean never, disappointed in a Josephine Myles story. She's pretty much an auto-buy and/or auto-request for me, and there are many reasons. One of those is that she is so very British, and I grew up in a family that watched Fawlty Towers on the BBC, among other things. The humor in her books is incomparable, the plots are wonderful, the romances are hot and sweet. When you get right down to it, what more could I want?

Nathan and Rory are so different, at first glance. Nathan is a geek, no two ways around it, a certified geek with a black and white brain. Rory is a social guy, tattooed, he has friends, goes out, messed up his A-levels and his first job, etc. Rory also has a sweet center where he likes to cuddle, he doesn't take himself, or anything else, too seriously, and he has a wickedly funny sense of humor. Things that Nathan really needs in his life.

"Romance is a fairy tale made up to sell books and films to gullible consumers. And I don’t really see how the android analogy works. What we did was pure animal.”
“I suppose. But I think mammals like to hug afterwards.”

Poor Nathan. Yes, he is a socially awkward nerd who has difficulty interpreting body language, but he also got hurt pretty badly, and even though he's got feelings for Rory, he's terrified the same thing will happen again. Rory is confused to the point where he doesn't know if he should tell Nathan how he feels, and run the risk of being told that love isn't real, it's just an overabundance of oxytocin. There were a few moments where I wanted to smack both of their heads together.

'Einstein's Peep Show' was everything I hoped it would be, and more. A delightfully sweet, slightly raunchy, tale of two guys who really needed each other, but didn't have clue one about that fact. Thank you, Jo, but especially a big thank you to your son for taking his daily naps so you could write again. I really hope that continues *grins*

I think I'm just not in the right mood for something like this at the moment. Honestly, I was bored, and all those sex metaphors that other reviewers found funny and cute...well,to me they were just awkward and not entertaining. And it certainly didn't help that at one moment I started comparing this to Public Display of Everything...I'm not saying that the Josephine Myles copied that book or whatever, but they do have similarities. And when you start comparing one book to the other you loved (and that is much better IMHO)...well,it certainly doesn't get better.

Entertaining and so much fun! Just what I needed for tonight. Nothing serious to angst over, just two boys getting it on first on camera then off too.

I love geeky characters and I licked up all the math and science references. British slang is the best! I think knob might be my favorite word for Mr Dickinsson.

Rory and Nathan are as different as can be in this opposites attract starts like a porno frolic.

No, I don't think this "cute meet" would ever happen but once I push that aside I enjoyed the very practical Nathan and laid back Rory.

Myles sneaks in more and more emotional complexity along with the smiles and this is a satisfying read.

Einstein’s Peep Show is the story of nerdy Nathan Wright who earns money for his math’s degree by performing sex on the internet. His friendly neighbor Rory Jones is pulled into Nathan’s ‘job’ when Nathan needs someone to perform a blow-job on, immediately. The story is told in third person from Nathan and Rory’s povs.

4.5 Stars ~ I must admit that author Josephine Myles is an auto-buy for me. I enjoy her work thoroughly and am never disappointed with her brilliant stories. Her newest novella, Einstein’s Peep Show, is funny, sweet and a wee bit hot.

Nathan has crunched the numbers over and over, and even can show you his spreadsheet, and the reality is the best money while investing the least amount of time was made while being a sex model online. After all a guy who is putting himself through Uni needs as many breaks as he can get; hence, he performs soft porn online for money. However, his client is getting more demanding and when he insists that Nathan (aka “Einstein”) bring in another guy, Nathan goes to the first and most logical person he can think of–his next door neighbor Rory.

Rory is a fairly happy and contented guy. He has a good job, a nice apartment, and okay, so maybe his love life is a little sketchy, but the clubs are always there if he needs to scratch an itch. So when his nerdy yet oddly appealing next door neighbor asked him if he wanted a blowjob, Rory did not hesitate to say, hell yes. Finding out that it would be online added a little zing to the whole experience. What neither young man expected was that after the cameras turned off, there was still that odd little zing–surely it couldn’t be love?

The beauty of this story was in the careful peeling away of layers that allowed us to learn more and more about both Nathan and Rory. Piece by piece, we learn how Nathan was mistreated by a former boyfriend–made to feel he was inadequate–and that love was not real. We get to see the tender heart that Rory hides behind his sarcastic teasing and dry humor, and realize he really is actually a very lonely guy who is ready to settle down with someone special.

Was this story too short? Yes, of course, but only because Josephine Myles gave us two lovely main characters that capture our imagination and our hearts. While some of this relationship did end up off the page with the author telling us about it rather than us watching it evolve, I felt that, too, was handled as best as it could be, given the length of the book. Really the only complaint I have is that I want more of these two men–I would love to see a follow up novel exploring their life together as a couple. All in all, the quick and delightful humor, smart dialogue and intriguing premise made Einstein’s Peep Show a sweet romance that I would not hesitate to read again.

A ScatteredThoughtsandRogueWords Review. This review can also be found here.

Nathan is a gay cam model which basically means he does solo sex acts for money to pay for his education. But when his highest tipper wants a private show with Nathan aka Einstein blowing another human being, Nathan is in a bit of a fix.

Rory is Nathan’s next door neighbour and when Nathan propositions him, he agrees because, who can turn down a blow job. But before he knows it things get out of control and turns out he might be in a real danger of losing his heart if only, Nathan would return his feelings…

This is the most charming romance I have ever read. These two were just so cute they had me going aww… and between that and the humour, I had a big smile slapped on my face for the entirety of the book and that is truly saying something because Rory had me giggling by the end of the first paragraph and the smile on my face never dimmed from there on out.

Nathan is this adorable geek who takes everything literally, so he can be a bit dense at times and a little too sensitive at the others. But he has had his heart squashed in a previous relationship and doesn’t want to suffer from another hormonal imbalance (if you are unfamiliar by the term, you might refer to it by the name of ‘love’).

Rory is this adorable (yes he is adorable too, you can get why this book is so charmingly funny and cute and romantic!!) guy who made me smile throughout this book, with his actions and words. He is such a nice guy, I loved the way he was open to talking and how he was always smiling and also how he was always trying to get Nathan out of his shell, and trying to make him really enjoy life.

Nathan and Rory together were oh so cute and just fit so well. And this really geeky quote from the book sums them up pretty well –

“Rory’s legs and arms were wrapped tight around him, pulling him inside, like the two of them were no longer separate integers. Like they’d been added together to make the most perfect prime number. Indivisible by anything but themselves.”

This book is perfect in length; it is a complete story and covers all the bases. What I loved was how this story imparts the true essence of Nathan and Rory just through their words and actions; I mean I loved how the plot had them in these adorable yet sexy situations and how they were trying to navigate this quagmire of a situation with their hearts intact, but failed… quite horribly.

If I could put a big arrow with the words READ THIS next to this book, I would. It’s short, it’s sweet, it will make you fall in love with the characters, it will make you laugh and in the end will still be a very satisfying read. Josephine Myles has hit a home run with this one.

Cover Art by Lou Harper. I think the cover is really cute (I am falling abysmally short of adjectives with this book), even though Nathan probably might not smile so much, but then he totally would if Rory was making him smile. I think the cover about covers up the content of this book.

Nerdy to dirty... exhibitionism... neighbours to lovers... what's not to love?

Written in Josephine Myles straightforward, English at it's core, style this short was a fun and sexy little read. Nathan is such a geek. Even though he performs sex on camera it's all about the bottom line and the quickest/easiest way to make money to support his education. His education and research and learning is the most important thing in his life, everything else revolves around it. No time for love, especially when he'd been burnt before.

Rory is pretty much Nathan's opposite - but who says no to a blowjob? Even if it's on camera. (That is a rhetorical question, I'm sure there are plenty of people who would say no, just not Rory and not in this story.) I loved how he made sure Nathan enjoyed himself as well as earning money. He helped Nathan believe in the good of people again - and of course, in love.

I love Jo Myles' writing, she is one of those authors who I would always rather have more with, than less. greedy much?? Well yes1 I enjoy her shorter stories but I LOVE her longer ones and so I always wish even her shorts were long, hence the rating. We could say it's a not her it's me situation. In fact let's say that, as there is nothing wrong with the writing at all, it is everything Myles does well but I wanted the expanded version.

I would absolutely recommend this story, especially to those who prefer their stories short and sexy.

A copy of this book was given in exchange for an honest review.

This book was hilarious to me. Centers around Nathan who is a Web cam sex worker. One day he needs someone to help him film a scene for his best client. He decides to knock on his hot neighbors door.
Rory doesn't mind helping him out, and the rest is history. This book is blunt and hilarious. Nathan makes no apologies for what he does and Rory doesn't mind at all. What starts off as a favor/business deal leads to friendship then love. Well written and did I mention funny as hell.

This was adorable. I normally prefer a more emotional read, but this had me laughing out loud. It begins with a geeky camboy who needs someone to help him with a live show. He has no intention of falling for the sweet guy next door, but of course he does, because romance. Fluffy, dirty goodness.

a little clunky but very cute - 2.5 stars rounded up.

I think this likely would have been better if it were more fully fleshed out. She tried to pack too much into a short story and so it just jumped around too quickly and I didn't quite buy the love. Still it was fun and the characters were all nice.

Einstein is Nathan's cam boy persona. he does private shows and his best paying client wants him to give a blowjob. He quickly grabs his slightly older neighbour Rory who goes along pretty easily. Even comes up with his own screen name - Heisenberg. They end up doing a number of private shows but most of that is not described. Somehow at the end of that time they are both falling for the other but we don't actually see that build up much.

This is quite low angst. The biggest problems come from Nathan's problems deciphering social clues. He is super literal in his thinking. I find that to be rather an annoying stereotype of those who study theoretical math but oh well that is the character. Still overall very sweet and since it is short it is easy to read. I liked the writing enough to immediately pick a longer story by the same author.
