(BUT IF YOU READ TWILIGHT YOU KNOW THE PLOT ANYWAY)
* teenage girl moves to a new town
* meets a gorgeous but mysterious guy
* she is intrigued while other think he is a little "strange"
* find out that the guy is "supernatural" after he saves her
from being run over by a car
* he is constantly fighting the deep seated urge to kill her
* while falling in love with her (obviously)
* after much coaxing he agree to have sex with her
(obviously difficult because of the whole killing thing)
* but only after they are married.
* When they finally do the deed bruises and a broken headboard
are the result
* as well as an unexpected and unusual pregnancy
While I was reading this book I assumed that the author was an over zealous teenage Twilight Saga Fan Girl writing her first novel. The book was a bit amateurish and obviously A LOT of the plot lines seemed VERY familiar but I kept thinking that with practise and maturity she could have potential. Then I got to the end of the book and read the authors biography and found out Kristie Cook is a seasoned author. And all I have to say is SERIOUSLY!

This is a story about difficult obstacles, true love, soul mates, secrets, good vs. evil and everything in between. Kristie Cook has created a world full of fascinating characters, interesting twists and stressful situations. There's also love that I could practically feel emanating off the pages, it was so strong I thought I was falling in love for a second. There were laughs, lots of tears and quite a bit of breaths that I had to hold waiting to see what was going to happen and how things were going to work out. Talk about your tension, whoa baby!
Alexis Ames has never been normal and she's always been somewhat of an outsider. Living and moving at the drop of a hat with her mom all over the country hasn't given her much of a chance to get a grip on her place in the world but she's hoping she'll be able to call Florida home for a while and add college to her daily routine. Fresh starts and clean slates being in the forefront of her mind, but let's just say she was going to be slightly disappointed. Little did she know that if she thought things were crazy before than she had no idea the spiral she was about to go down when she meets Tristan Knight.
Hello Tristan! Tristan is the ultimate guy, he's handsome, he's got manners and killer charm, he's always in showing up when you least expect him, and he's just pretty much all around perfect...or so everyone thinks. He's got his secrets just like Alexis has hers and it seems that they're not the only ones, sheesh there were so many people in this book telling so many different versions of the truth it's a wonder anyone could keep anything straight. But someone how Cook was able to keep things straight, clear and flowing effortlessly. Not to mention the fact that Cook writes romance and the build up that goes along with every budding relationship with the best of them and when big events start happening you didn't even realize how invested in the characters you were until its too late. I was taken by complete surprise and I'm still kind of reeling over how much I came to care about these characters.
Luckily I was aware of this being the first book in a series ahead of time so the cliffhanger Cook left me with wasn't a debilitating blow so much as a huge 'are you kidding me' moment, but I'm still hoping her second book in the Soul Savers series comes out sooner rather than later. Kristie Cook quickly became a favorite author of mine and I'm crossing my fingers that she doesn't crush me in this next installment because I'm not sure I can take the stress she creates right at this moment. These characters feel a little bit like a fictional family to me and I want everyone to live happily ever after, is that so much to ask for?

I was very lucky to be chosen as an early reader of Promise. Kristie Cook has written a book that will appeal to everyone who enjoys fantasy, romance and mystery. Her vivid descriptions and well-woven story lines keep you glued to the pages to see what will happen next. I'm anxiously awaiting book 2 in the Soul Savers series!

A Life Bound By Books
Kristie Cook is destined to take the self publishing world by storm with her first novel in the brand new Soul Savers series – Promise. Thrilling, action packed, with rich and endearing characters, mystery and a love story unlike most others, this book has all the key ingredients and then some to quickly become the book everyone wants to read.
Alexis and her mother are on the move again. When everyone including yourself thinks you’re a freak because of your strange abilities and your mother doesn’t seem to age, you tend to move around a lot. With starting college it’s the perfect time to make a fresh start and begin again. Moving to Florida would be perfect, just no one was expecting it to be life changing.
Alexis is a strong level headed character and when Tristan enters her life you just know they are destined. I enjoyed watching their relationship grow into something epic. What’s interesting is that this wasn’t a love at first sight type of love, it was a love that grew from friendship which was a breath of fresh air. Alexis has her guard up and has good reason to and Tristan has some secrets as well. That’s where the beauty of their relationship comes in. They took the time to sort through things and listen and learn about each other, to figure out that what they needed most might just be what the other is willing to give.
Tristan is fierce and loyal and has his own set of problems to deal with and he wants nothing more then to be a better person for not only himself but for Alexis and a whole race of people. He might have a lot of history to make up for, but wants nothing more than to do just that. The inner battles he faces are part of what makes him perfect to me. Knowing a character is flawed and watching their internal struggle to be better and overcome them is something that always draws me in.
With a war looming above Alexis, Tristan and everyone around them they must figure out a way to keep Alexis safe and keep their love secret from the evil forces at work. It’s a war between good and evil with little to no way to stop it.
The story flowed easily from one page to another with the descriptive writing, strong characters that were easy to cheer for and a love story to leave your heart tingling - Kristie’s Promise is a book bursting at the seams - with an ending that’ll leave you wanting more.

First, I'm going to join the plethora of voices and say this book far exceeded expectations. I debated long and hard over the rating because I was afraid 3 stars might give off the impression that I don't highly recomend this book (because I do). It took a few chapters for the book to hook me, but after it did I was a goner. The only big issue I had was the dialogue between Tristan and Alexis; it was a little too unrealistic and cheesy.
I wasn't instantly swept away in the romance either; it took some time for me to have a true emotional investment in their relationship, but I eventually got there and once I did, I for sure wasn't leaving :-)
Other than a few minor issues, I couldn't be more pleased. Yes it does have some small similarities to other paranormal books, but it also has its own unique presence in the paranormal world. It has plenty of action, romance, and memorable characters; a true page turner.
Now addressing the "generic" Twilight accusations, I hate to break it to you people, but Stephenie Meyer didn't create the idea of abstinence until marriage (I'm pretty sure the Bible did that). And any SUPER strong man with supernatural abilities runs the risk of a little mass distruction when it comes to physical intimacy with a human. Damage control is kind of inevitable no matter what book we're talking about.
Trust me; the story is unique as it portrays the battle between heaven and hell, good and evil, angels and demons. The ending will knock you down and run you over a few times so my advice is to have the sequel waiting and ready. Great new series!

OK so this is the forth 5 star book I've read in the last 2 weeks, I don't usually give five stars unless the book actually interrupts my everyday life and let me tell you something, I sobbed! This book kept me up late, made me put a movie on for my kids to do NOTHING all day and let the laundry sit in the drier after it was done. Not too many books have done that. I could not put it down. It killed me to sit in traffic doing noting while I could have been reading this book. I recommend it to all my friends that like supernatural and romance, but beware I SOBBED, I didn't just have little teary tears in my eyes spilling over, I actually sobbed. It was sad and it's a cliff hanger.
Oh and I just added Tristan to my love list I call "boys in books are just better" i hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did.

I first must say that I already knew how fabulous this book is! I just needed to reread to make sure I am ready for Devotion when it releases soon.
Now with that said I am going to attempt to tell you all why this is sooooooo amazing!!!
In Promise, Kristie does an amazing job of making her characters seem so real! Alexis is a fabulous female lead and Tristan….well what can I say. He’s mysterious and sexy and completely irresistible!!! The relationship that forms between Alexis is awesome and it grows just as fast as Alexis in this book. And it’s not like BANG! Done. Nope they literally let their relationship grow until they couldn’t take it anymore! Now I am having a hell of a time trying to do this review without spoiling it for all of you guys so I will just say this…..READ THIS BOOK NOW!!!!!!! You have to get this immediately and while you are at it…..You mise well get Purpose too because if you don’t you are going to regret it!

So I have had this book sitting on my TBR pile and wow I wish I had read it sooner! So I thought this was a YA book because the MC Alexis is 18/19 in the book. But it is definitely for a more mature age range. Just to go off topic for a second there should be some sort of group or whatever for college age range or something because it isn't really YA or adult. But anyway moving on.
I really liked the MC Alexis she was easy to relate to and someone I would love to have as a friend. I loved her character growth throughout the book. I intrigued to learn more about what Alexis was and I hope that I will learn more in the next book because it is still a little vague. Then there is Tristan, who was very swoonworthy (omg)! He was also very sweet and he and Alexis make a great couple. I loved that their relationship wasn't instant love (even though there was instant attraction) but took time to build and seem like a real relationship (although in the end it may have been a bit rushed in my opinion). They had their own issues and problems and there relationship wasn't perfect, which is what made it so interesting to read about. The basis of the book is their relationship and it gets quite sexual, which is why it is for more mature audiences. But basically they are a great couple and fun to read about. There were some great secondary characters as well.

There were some great action scenes towards the end that I loved, the pace really picked up. The ending made me want to cry and to also read Purpose ASAP! I definitely recommend the book if you like the epic star-crossed lover aspect as well as the paranormal. Oh and there are similarities between this book and Twilight, but they definitely are not the same. There were even some indirect references (and those similarities) in there, that I assume were ironic, that made me laugh! Overall I loved Promise!

Kristie Cook has created an intoxicating world with a cast of characters that are deliciously addicting. Originally, I expected to walk into a world of spiritual warfare. I was wrong and I was right in this assessment. It is a war. A war of love. Where other paranormals glide past the reasons love exist, Ms. Cook handed it to me on a silver platter. And I devoured it. And I wanted more. Rich in characterization, this story follows the not so normal Alexis Ames. Like nomads, she and her mother have spent Alexis’s life wandering from town to town. For Alexis, being different means that people talk and it’s hard to keep her excuses and lies believable when she doesn’t even understand what she is or why she’s different in the first place. In a seaside town in Florida, Tristan Knight enters her life and everything changes. While her secrets become harder to keep, their budding love becomes an uphill battle. Of course, Alexis has no idea that what she’s trying so hard to keep from Tristan is the very thing he needs the most from her. As the blurb on the back cover says, “They’re a match made in Heaven and Hell.”
Watching these two fight for love was an absolute joy for me. The descriptions are breathtaking, the characters so addicting. And the love story? Well, it’s priceless. I highly recommend this book!

Kristie Cook's Promise left me breathless. It's about true love, soul mates, good vs. evil, and everything in between. I was completely blown away and I wasn't expecting to be left wanting so badly to continue reading non-stop. When I wasn't reading I was agonizingly wondering about what was going to happen next. I was even dreaming about different scenarios that could possibly happen from where I left off. And when I started reading again I was on the edge of my seat, my face practically smooshed to the screen. There were moments when I was practically bouncing off the walls with happiness, crying my eyes out, or holding my breath in expectation. I loved the story and characters so much I don't think there's anything negative I could say about Promise.
Alexis knows she's not completely normal (though she desperately wishes that she were), but her mother refuses to tell her anything about them and their family. Having decided that she's had enough of her mother's evasiveness, Alexis does her own research with little to no results.
On her first day of college, Alexis literally runs into Tristan Knight and sparks fly. Their connection is instantaneous and very strong. When Alexis' mother finds out about Tristan she's adamant that Alexis stay away from him. She refuses and after overhearing a conversation between her mother and Tristan she realizes that they know each other. After an accident leaving Alexis seriously injured and Tristan mysteriously unharmed, it's decided that she should be told the truth about herself, Tristan, and the world they're a part of.
What really stayed with me about Kristie's writing was the believability of the characters and the raw emotion leaping off the pages. Alexis and Tristan, Sophia and Rina, Owen and Stefan; all the characters felt so real to me. I felt as if I was right there with them, seeing everything so clearly. The emotion in this book affected me the most. I could feel their happiness, their sadness, their anger and hope. It's all so intense and real.
Alexis seems like a normal teenager at first, but we soon learn of her unusual ability to heal fast and her amazing strength (which usually only shows itself when she's really angry). Because of her peculiarities she's never had any friends (besides her mother, Sophia) and was constantly picked on. She wants more than anything to be normal, to have a normal life. She's smart and is an amazing writer. her ability to love is immense, but she fears opening herself up to someone and possibly being hurt and betrayed again. When she meets Tristan she falls hard for him, but she has priorities and doesn't let her feelings consume the rest of her life. She's someone I would love to know in real life.
Tristan is amazingly gorgeous. Before Alexis, he never felt he had the ability to love. He's loving and protective, but not overly so. He knows Alexis' strengths and doesn't mind handing a situation over to her. Tristan is also very talented in many things, mostly in design---architecture, jewelry, etc. His love and devotion are unmatched, and he would gladly lay down his life for Alexis.
Alexis and Tristan's love is so intense and passionate, it practically oozes off the pages. They seem to be complete opposites at first, but are more alike than they thought. I like that they got to know each other first before declaring their undying love for each other. There were secrets and doubts, but even after everything was revealed they still loved each other unconditionally.
There are many twists and turns, surprise revelations, and heart-stopping romance. This book definitely will keep you on the edge of your seat and the tips of your toes.
True love can't be more dangerous or bittersweet than a match made in Heaven and Hell.

After an accident leaving Alexis seriously injured and Tristan mysteriously unharmed, it's decided that she should be told the truth about herself, Tristan, and the world they're a part of.
What really stayed with me about Kristie's writing was the believability of the characters and the raw emotion leaping off the pages. Alexis and Tristan, Sophia and Rina, Owen and Stefan; all the characters felt so real to me. I felt as if I was right there with them, seeing everything so clearly. The emotion in this book affected me the most. I could feel their happiness, their sadness, their anger and hope. It's all so intense and real.
Alexis seems like a normal teenager at first, but we soon learn of her unusual ability to heal fast and her amazing strength (which usually only shows itself when she's really angry). Because of her peculiarities she's never had any friends (besides her mother, Sophia) and was constantly picked on. She wants more than anything to be normal, to have a normal life. She's smart and is an amazing writer. her ability to love is immense, but she fears opening herself up to someone and possibly being hurt and betrayed again. When she meets Tristan she falls hard for him, but she has priorities and doesn't let her feelings consume the rest of her life. She's someone I would love to know in real life.
Tristan is amazingly gorgeous. Before Alexis, he never felt he had the ability to love. He's loving and protective, but not overly so. He knows Alexis' strengths and doesn't mind handing a situation over to her. Tristan is also very talented in many things, mostly in design---architecture, jewelry, etc. His love and devotion are unmatched, and he would gladly lay down his life for Alexis.
Alexis and Tristan's love is so intense and passionate, it practically oozes off the pages. They seem to be complete opposites at first, but are more alike than they thought. I like that they got to know each other first before declaring their undying love for each other. There were secrets and doubts, but even after everything was revealed they still loved each other unconditionally.
There are many twists and turns, surprise revelations, and heart-stopping romance. This book definitely will keep you on the edge of your seat and the tips of your toes.
True love can't be more dangerous or bittersweet than a match made in Heaven and Hell.

I wanted so very much to love this book. I read the synopsis on Goodreads.com and it seemed interesting. When the Kindle price on Amazon went to 99 cents, I snagged it.
My delight at the price, though, was where the happy ended.
This review may lean slightly toward the side of spoiler-ish, so stop reading now if you want. Then again, if you’ve even half a clue what went on in Twilight, you’ll have no surprises in Promise.
The protagonist is a young girl who believes she’s ugly as sin but who keeps getting told by everyone else that she’s gorgeous. The self-loathing yet beautiful young girl moves to a new town and once there she meets a new guy who she is, of course, immediately attracted to. This guy is mysterious, slightly creepy, and (again, of course) drop dead gorgeous. Oh, and everyone else thinks he’s bad news.
Guy’s name is Tristan, which I admit is quite a bit nicer (in my opinion) than Edward. Tristan is constantly wanting to kill Alexis even though he loves her. He saves her from a potentially/probably fatal car accident, at which point she figures out he’s not really all that “normal”. No, people, I’m not just superimposing the Twilight plot over this book in some sort of confused daze…this really happens.
Now I could have forgiven this. Really, I could have, because Kristie Cook’s writing is at least a bit better than Mrs. Meyer’s. But she lost me with the craptastic “intimate” stuff.
Alexis practically throws herself at Tristan. In fact, she literally does. She begs him repeatedly to have sex with her, but of course he refuses. At one point she feels like she’s losing him so her MOTHER drives her to his house, tells her to do what she has to do, and Alexis proceeds to strip naked and prostrate herself in front of him. Seriously, in an attempt to keep the guy she offers to give him her virginity if he’ll only please, please, please, ohmigosh, not leave her. Argh!
I’m going to just stop here, because I literally can’t find anything nice to say about the book except Ms. Cook’s writing style trumps Mrs. Meyer’s by far. Oh, and the concept was nice – the angel/demon lore was actually interesting and I’m truly sad that absolutely nothing awesome came from such promise. I suppose I don’t have to say that I’ll be skipping the sequel/s in this series.

When I first read the synopsis for Promise, I thought this would be about a battle of good vs. evil but I found it to be more of a love story. Alexis and Tristan's relationship is different from most I read. They did not jump right into bed together or admit their undying love for each other after only 3 days. They give their relationship time to grow and allowed themselves time to get to know each other. I liked that their relationship was more than sex. There were a lot of dark and unusual secrets they had and once everything was out in the open, they still loved one another. They both had their moments of doubt and Alexis in particular frustrated me. It was almost too late once she finally fully commented herself to Tristan and I felt he more than proved himself to her.
Sophia is Alexis' mother and holds secrets to what Alexis' is and what her potential power can be but she is not allowed to tell. Their kind, the Amadis, do not come into their power until the ang'dora (change). Till then Sophia must keep secrets from Alexis. Even with all the unanswered questions, Alexis and Sophia are very close. I want to say that I didn't like Sophia because she wouldn't share any information with her daughter but I respect that she did what she had to do to keep her daughter safe and keep the necessary secrets until Alexis was ready.
The Amadis fight for good and heaven while the Daemoni fight for Satan and seek to destroy souls. This story line was interesting to read and easy enough to follow. I did like this book but I would have liked it more if the book focused more on this. I would have liked to know more about each side and what other creatures there are out there. The story wasn't very fast paced and I felt myself forcing me to keep reading at times. It wasn't bad just a lot of secrets revealed with not much action. This may not be the best choice for people who need constant action or sex to keep their attention.

This is the first in the Soul Saver's series. I do plan to read Purpose, the second book in the series which is scheduled to be out this fall. The ending left me wanting to know what happens next with both the characters and the story.

I started reading Promise, due to all the book reviews I had read...
After a FULL day with family, I started around 9, by 10:30 my head was heavy and I had only completed a short bit....
I fell asleep, unable to concentrate any longer...
But by 1:30 I was awake, unable to sleep - with Alexis in my head and in my heart - I picked up Promise again....
Little did I know, that I would never make it back to bed...
Promise, is intense - in the best way possible - it shook me to my very core, it caused me to throw up...I had such emotions, they overflowed in me...I could not help it, I did not want to.
There are some books, some authors that - when they publish you know, from the very tips of your toes that you will do EVERYTHING in your power to get the book early, and if not, you will be the first in line, or the first to order it where ever you can get it.
The Light of Asteria and Elizabeth Isaacs is like that, and maybe one or two others, but not many - and she's the first that comes to mind...
Now I have another author that I feel that intense connection with, Kristine Cook created an amazing world - full of details, but while doing so, she created characters that took my breath away, they offered so much more of themselves than "regular" characters for me...they offered a soul, and Alexis whose stronger than I could ever be, even on my best day - and Tristan a guy who stole my heart and my love...
This book is written for older teens or adults, not my "normal" genre but it's a MUST read...I loved it to my very core...

This book definitely caught me off guard. I didn't expect to be totally consumed by it and I was pulled in from the first word. I could not put it down until I had read the last sentence, thus losing precious sleep.
This is an epic love story but is written in a whole new way. It has many similar elements to other YA fantasy novels but the author took it one step further and introduced a new world which I had never delved into before. I was introduced to a new "species" of supernatural- soul savers, and soul destroyers, each long time enemies fighting in a battle over mankind, with the main couple caught in between.
The characters were very well developed and I liked how much the main girl's (Alexis) mother Sophia was involved. Most YA novels seem to forget about the parents of the children but Sophia played a major role.
Alexis is a strong, independent woman, who has had to overcome trust issues and feeling comfortable in her own skin. With the help of Tristan, her soul mate, she is able to overcome her inner demons, only to have him snatched away far too soon for her liking (or for the reader).
Tristan (swoon) is every woman's idea of the perfect man, except he too has his inner demons to fight in order to be with Alexis, but his persistance and unwavering loyalty conquers in the end.
I admit, this book made me cry at certain parts, especially the end, and I am so thankful I was able to start reading the sequel immediately after. I can't wait to see how their story ends, and I really hope they have a happy ending.

Promise by Kristie Cook is such an insanely incredible read, it will grab your attention, heart, and soul.
Alexis has been on the move her whole life with her mother, never staying in one place long enough for her to meet true friends. She is picked on, teased throughout her life for being weird and abnormal. But what really is Normal?
After graduation, Alexis and her mother move to a new town and Alexis starts college and writing her novel. She meets Tristan, and her whole world turns upside down.
Alexis is used to putting up a barrier around herself. She has serious trust issues and is unsure about letting Tristan in. However, the more time they spend together, those barriers start to crumble. Alexis begins to learn secrets about herself and finds out that she and Tristan have more in common than she ever dreamed.
Man, it is so difficult to write a review that you absolutely want to babble on forever about WITHOUT giving out any spoilers. And Promise is one of those stories. Who exactly is Alexis? Why is her and her mother different? Trust me, this story is packed with secrets being revealed, battles, a “hawt” romance that starts slow and ends up sizzling…emotion that is completely unbelievable.
All the characters in this story have great personalities, and storyline is a non-stop attention getter. It’s a whole new paranormal topic, which had me intrigued from beginning to end. Who exactly are the Amadis? Well, trust me when I say that you NEED to read this story. You will love it, and THAT’S a Promise.

This was something different for me on the paranormal front, I've not read anything quite like this before. The world that Kristie Cook created was very well thought out and in-depth. The two types of paranormal beings we encounter in this book and the history between the two was very cleverly laid out. The way the story is told had me so intrigued, the story is told in Alexis's POV and although she knows she has a few quirks she has no idea what she is or where she came from. She is told more information as the story goes on and only as it is safe for her to know certain things, and we find out along with her. I felt Alexis's frustration about being kept in the dark because I too really couldn't wait to find out what was going on.
I got a bit of a surprise with this book as I expected it to be young adult but it's a little more risqué than that in parts. Not that I was complaining! Tristan is bloody hot, I had no problem reading about him engaging in sexy times lol.
This book ends on a bit of a cliff-hanger, just be aware you'll likely want to go straight into the second book once you've read it, as do I!

If you liked the Twilight series, you'll probably like Promise. It's full of characters with other-worldly abilities. If you didn't like Twilight because you felt the characters had super natural powers just for the sake of having them, you might like Promise because there's a reason for the characters having super natural powers Either way, the story will have you on the edge of your seat, wanting to find out how everything turns out between Alexis and Tristan.

This book shocked me. I really didn't know what to expect, but I truly didn't expect to be up all night reading it and to be completely blown away by the writing, story line, and characters. This book begins 9 years ago (from where book 2, Purpose, will pick up) and is from the point of view of Alexis. Alexis knows she is different but she realizes that even more once she is attacked by creatures that shouldn't even exist. Her mother tries to keep the truth from her and they move often to get away from possible dangers.
Then Alexis meets Tristan, who is gorgeous, mysterious, and seems to be very interested in Alexis. Alexis's mom instantly wants her to stay away from Tristan, and the fact that they seem to already know each other is obvious. An accident leads Alexis to find out the truth about herself, Tristan, and the creatures that are after her.
The writing in this book is outstanding! The way Kristie describes emotions, settings, and actions is so unique. It starts out with the best first few lines I think I have ever read in a book. I posted them on the excerpts post but I will post them again.
The sensation of being watched clung to me like a spider web, invisible threads bristling the back of my neck and down my spine. I brushed my fingers across my shoulders, as if I could drag the feeling off and flick it away.
How can you NOT want to read more after reading that? Alexis and Tristan are so passionate about each other and even though they have their issues to work out, their love shines through each page. They felt so real! The story takes a lot of twists and turns and will leave you guessing the entire time. What exactly is Tristan, where does their connection come from, and will it all work out?
The love between Tristan and Alexis will leave you breathless! Their relationship is strong and even though they seem to be "good versus evil", everything fits together perfectly. This book takes us into their world, and the world Alexis never knew existed. Some questions are answered while some are left for the next book. The "Angel's army" must be saved and it is all in their hands.
Characters: Alexis is one of my favorite female characters. She is someone I'd love to know! She is smart, interesting, and although she is head over heals in love with Tristan, it doesn't completely take over her life. That can be common in a love story. But Alexis has her own interests and she doesn't forget to be herself. Tristan is..well...hot! He treats Alexis like she is the only girl in the world. Sophia, Alexis's mother, is strong and cares deeply for her daughter. She does everything she can to make sure she is protected. Owen, was a great character as well. This makes it more appropriate for age 17 and up.

I’d wanted to read Promise for a while, I’d heard so many great things about it and even though I’ve rated it 3.5 stars, don’t let that put you off by reading it.
Alexis Ames has always known she was different. She’s always known because when she would fall over and hurt herself in school, she always healed so quickly that people soon started calling her a freak. Alexis does want to find out why she is different but with her mother reluctant to give her answers, it’s kind of a lost hope…that is until Tristan comes into the picture. A handsome boy that has secrets of his own and for some reason Alexis’ mother dislikes him. Soon both, Alexis and Tristan’s secrets start to unravel they are swept up into a whirlwind romance that quickly leaves them realising their soul mates but with a dangerous evil lurking nearby will they get a happy ending?
Firstly, I want to say that Kristie Cook has done a fantastic job by creating a whole new world that involves Good vs Evil. I’m not going to go in to much detail as I don’t want to spoil it for you but it’s a world that will leave you guessing all the way through. It’s a new take on Good vs Evil and one I really enjoyed.
The characters were great. Alexis and Tristan are wonderful together, their relationship happens so fast but I honestly don’t think it feels forced. It was a nice pace throughout the story. I have to say I was utterly shocked where their relationship goes….it’s not bad thing but there are so many good things that happen between these two characters that unite them to become one and my, it doesn’t disappoint. The secondary characters were also a great addition and Owen, Rina, Sophia never disappointed throughout. I was kind of expecting a love triangle between Alexis, Tristan & Owen to pop up during the story but I for one am thankful the author didn’t go there.
Now, I bet your wondering why the 3.5 score then? Well as much as I enjoyed the story and the characters…..for some reason I sometimes found I couldn’t connect with the characters as much as I would have liked. There were some great scenes that I believe I should have been quiet emotional at and I just….wasn’t. Maybe it was just me. I read this book with a few other people for Book of the Month and they all loved it. I think my main reason may have been, I was only reading little bits at a time due to work etc, and I think I needed to just read it all in one to feel the full effect but again, I did still enjoyed the story regardless of this.
Overall, I really enjoyed this world Kristie has made and it does sometimes makes me wonder why author’s that have a lot of potential and talent haven’t been published yet. I urge you guys to go buy this book and support the author….support all indie authors because they do work just as hard as any other author.
Oh. P.S I wouldn’t recommend this to a younger audience…quite a bit of sexual references.
Alexis Ames has always known she was different. She’s always known because when she would fall over and hurt herself in school, she always healed so quickly that people soon started calling her a freak. Alexis does want to find out why she is different but with her mother reluctant to give her answers, it’s kind of a lost hope…that is until Tristan comes into the picture. A handsome boy that has secrets of his own and for some reason Alexis’ mother dislikes him. Soon both, Alexis and Tristan’s secrets start to unravel they are swept up into a whirlwind romance that quickly leaves them realising their soul mates but with a dangerous evil lurking nearby will they get a happy ending?
Firstly, I want to say that Kristie Cook has done a fantastic job by creating a whole new world that involves Good vs Evil. I’m not going to go in to much detail as I don’t want to spoil it for you but it’s a world that will leave you guessing all the way through. It’s a new take on Good vs Evil and one I really enjoyed.
The characters were great. Alexis and Tristan are wonderful together, their relationship happens so fast but I honestly don’t think it feels forced. It was a nice pace throughout the story. My first ever book I’ve read of Kristie Cooks and I will certainly be adding her to my list of authors to follow ;)
Promise is not at all what I first anticipated in reading the blurb it was so much more. Intriguing, captivating and catapulting me on a whirlwind of twists and turns till the very end. This book had me intrigued and definitely keen to keep on reading, I read this in one sitting... I was swept along with the storyline, enjoying the flow and the way in which the direction took me.
The plot had me drawn in, I found this to be a fluent flowing storyline, with characters that I’m sure you will swoon over, fall in love with and also shed a tear for. Characters that I’m sure you will also enjoy and find intriguing.
A love that will not only have you sheepishly grinning, but also have you heart a- fluttering. Emotions and descriptions are well put forth, creating that world that Kristi has put forth, and the character traits to go with.
Kristi has created a world where Good vs. Evil = Heaven Vs Hell - Angels, Demons, protectors and so much more, a human world filled with paranormals and a storyline which is unique of its own.
Tristan is every girls dream boat, hot - gorgeous, charming, romantic and off course protective. I enjoyed his character, fighting the demon within to be with and find love, his true love - soul mate. Tristan and Alexis love was magnetic, electrifying - it gave tingles just reading it... It was so romantic and made you smile at moments, and giggle at others, and also heart warming moments where you heart sunk. I’m such a romantic at heart and enjoyed every moment... The love was not instant, it was slow and gradual and not your fall in love at first site, I enjoyed this concept. Alexis is insecure, very emotional , but has her goals which she focused on and in time her maturity and thoughts changed, I enjoyed seeing her change along the way.
Tristan and Alexis is a match made in Heaven n Hell, will hell win and reclaim his soul?
Demons hunt the souls and the Angels defend them..... A family line continues on to fight good over evil, but is the line stopping at Alexis? We are introduced to two world in this story, Good and Evil and the reasons behind the fued... Im hoping to see a little more into these worlds in book two.
The ending to Promise will have you teary eyed and anticipating book two - Definably an unpredictable ending for sure...
If you after a read filled with lust, passion, romance, suspense, action, then this paranormal series is for you...

My Thoughts:
I.Am.Hooked. I'm head over heels, sleep deprived, and obsessed with this series. I can barely get through this review, so I can get the next book. I ignored all but the basic needs of my family for two days (though I received no complaints about pizza for dinner) to devour this book. But don't worry, I won't short you, kittens. Because you guys are the awesome and because I want you to get into this series. Let's do this.
We start off with a very creeptastic and edgy attack on young, and slightly odd Alexis Ames. In fact, that's probably what I love most about this book - The story grabs you by the throat and refuses to let go, dragging you down Tense Street and around the corner to hang off the edge of your chair. When I say I couldn't put it down, I literally could not part with my Nook until I found out what happens next, and then next, and after that. Kristie Cook is a master of suspense! (Also of hot sex scenes, but we'll get to that later. You have to wait ;) Right from the beginning, we get that Alexis knows she's different but her ageless and mysterious mother Sophia won't, or can't, tell her about her quirks till she reaches the Ang'dora. When she mets delectable Tristian in the college library, it gets even more tense and delicious. They begin to date, and try to simultaneously crack each other's hard shells and drop their own guards. As their fragile relationship blooms, otherworldly threats begin to rain down on them. Tristian is forced to explain to Lexi who and what he is, and in part who and what she is.
It is so hard to review some books without spoilers, but I refuse to do it, because I don't want to spoil this trip into another world for y'all. Lets just say the ending was gut-wrenching, ugly cry moment. (I loved every second of it)
I will say that I had this annoying, repetitive thought, and in the spirit of being honest I feel I must say it - Parts of this book reminded me of Twilight, but Alexis isn't annoying and helpless, Tristian isn't an misogynistic stalker, and the honeymoon scene was a total panty melter.
Ok, my dears, I have to go. I have Gensis, the pre-novella to finish reading, and then Purpose to download. Expect to see them here, VERY soon!

This was the first Kristie Cook's book I read. It was recommended to me by one of the Twilightmoms and I was eager to read it. I didn't have to be disappointed, I really loved this book. It was easy to read, had some cute humor in it and very interesting plot.
Meet Alexis - college girl who is constantly on run together with her mother Sophia. Alexis is different, she can heal beyond normal understanding and this is exactly the reason of their running away. At least that is how it looks in the beginning of the book.
Alexis starts studying in new college and meets Mr. Beautiful. Tristan is good-looking, friendly hot guy who is taking an interest in Alexis quite quickly. Alexis and Tristan start to study together and as the story goes, their relationship is becoming more and more intensive.
Then everything changes. Alexis finds out about who Tristan is and even more importantly, who she and her family are. That shocks her and she pushes Tristan away. Alexis is from heaven and Tristan from hell and their story is a struggle between their roots and backgrounds.
I loved the plot! I was really surprised to find out that Tristan knew Alexis from her birth, that he was the one who picked her name and that their relationship and marriage was planned by Alexis' family already years ago. In one way I found it fascinating and it was a twist which I absolutely loved about the story. Nowadays planned marriages are not something you meet very often, at least not in western cultures.
The other thing I loved was that the understanding of Good and Evil was mixed in the characters, especially in Tristan and also for some extent in Alexis. Tristan has won over his dark side and I have a suspicion that Alexis will be struggling with her dark side in the next book.
You should be warned - you can simply not put this book away until it's finished. And the end of this book leaves so many things unfinished and you will be eager to start reading the second book of the series immediately. I have already purchased the next book - Purpose.
This book gets 4 stars out of 5.

Oh. My. God. Where on earth did this book come from? I’m at a loss for words. It just sort of came out of nowhere and punched me in the face with its complete brilliantness and has left me utterly speechless.
I’ll be honest, I bought it because it was only 49p on kindle and I was looking for a ‘filling in’ book and so didn’t expect much. But I’m soooooooo glad I read it because now I’m desperate for the next one. And I mean, I love cliff hangers but this has to be the cruelest one ever. I’m now abandoning all other reading material until I have read the sequel (Purpose) which I downloaded immediately after finishing Promise.
Everything about this book is great. The story, the characters, the romance, the action, the paranormal/fantasy element. You name it, it’s got it! And the heart throb! Wow! Tristan Knight is now officially my new favourite literary guy! He blows Edward Cullen, Patch, Jace Wayland, Daniel Gregori, Prince Ash and many many others right out of the water as far as I’m concerned.
It just felt like everything about it was written with real class and style. I couldn’t get enough of the story. There were some very well written bad guys who were looming throughout the story and then came out with a bang at the end. The romance was probably the best I’ve ever read. And I’ve read a LOT of paranormal/fantasy romance but this one just wins them all! Tristan was amazing. His secret was explained nicely and we found out just enough about him every chapter for it not to be too much at once. Tristan and the protagonist, Alexis, were a perfect match, their relationship developed at a nice pace and those bedroom scenes! Whoosh! I found myself going red and looking around me on the train to make sure no one was reading over my shoulder. They were hot!!!
I wish I could give this thousands of stars because that’s what it truly deserves. Recommend to all fantasy/paranormal fans. This is a MUST read!

I loved this book. I could not read it fast enough. I read Purpose right after it. Review will be up soon!
I could not read these books fast enough. Yes I finished them A LONG time ago. I have no clue why I did not post my review sooner. I think I went on book strike after I read these for a bit because they were so on my mind! Seriously...do not even start Promise unless you have Purpose sitting right beside you or you will be VERY UPSET with yourself. Now onto the book!
I love paranormal. I love ALL paranormal. I love ALL PARANORMAL that has hot characters in it. Guess what? YIP...you got it. This series has it all! This book made me sit on the edge of my seat the whole way through. Author Kristie Cook sucks you into her world and does not let you go. The world is built inside your head as you read each word, each page, each chapter.
Per the blurb on the back of the book "...are a match made in Heaven and in Hell". This book is incredible. The story unravels as Alexis finds out who she really is, who her mom really is and who her hot new boyfriend really is. Alexis is torn in a million different directions as what is right and what she wants are totally different things. There are some very intense and intimate chapters of this book (hot as hell if you must)!
As Alexis learns why she writes the stories she does, as she sorts through the lies and the new found truth, will she find out who she is meant to be or will she succumb to who she could be. The choice of Heaven and Hell has never been harder.
The characters in this book are so well rounded. They come to life on the pages. Author Kristie Cook makes you feel like you actually know them and you feel everything they feel.
It is hard to give this book a good solid review without spoilers. There is so much I want to say about it but I am unable to as you have to experience the book yourself.

I received this book from my mother with an adamant “YOU MUST READ”. Going in, I was skeptical. For one, it’s not considered YA. I would classify it more in the Cross Over/Romance genre, and the Romance genre is not my forte’. But I was so so so happy to be wrong about my initial opinion. The MC, Alexis, is a strong, original female character no matter what genre it’s classified as. At 19, she has been kept in the dark her whole life about who she is; dealing with strange “quirks” that forces her to isolate herself from friends and potential love interests. Always on the run, her best and only friend, her mother, and her share a close and bonded relationship despite never divulging the truth to Alexis. After her current transition into a new town and college, Alexis meets Tristan Knight, who shatters her defenses, opening up her heart to the possibility of accepting love and herself. This is one of the most passionate love stories I have ever had the privilege of reading. Tristan is smoldering in PROMISE. Strong, confident, protective, intelligent, and beautiful, he captivates Alexis in a whirlwind of a romance and forbidden love that kept me holding my breath through the whole novel. I had to remind myself to breathe as they fight for their love and lives in a unique, NEW paranormal plot. I believe Ms. Cook has taken the best parts of my favorite books and compiled them together to create the ultimate love story, yet she put her own spin on it, making it one of my favorite novels of all time. Also, writers will identify with Alexis as she is also a writer, on a journey to finish and publish her own novel. The second book to the series is released in December. I’m so happy I don’t have to wait long!

I had high hopes for Promise after reading the forward by the author. The version I read was re-released with better editing and new content. In other words, it as written the way she had originally intended it to be presented. I wasn't disappointed. Promise is a beautifully and well written love story.
Alexis has known she was different all her life. She can heal any wound that she gets almost immediately. Her mother never seems to age. And on top of that, she is constantly moving. She longs for a normal life. Instead, it seems someone wants to kill her and her mother is not telling her things she needs to know. She meets Tristan in a college class and the connection runs deeply almost instantly. I really enjoyed watching Tristan and Alexis get to know each other. They became friends first which I think made their love more believable.
Ms. Cook has created a unique world which revolves around the Amadis and the Daemoni. I look froward to learning more about both sides and how they came to be. One thing that did bother me about the book was the people around Alexis kept only giving her part of the story. This got to be frustrating for me after a while. But then, I have no patience and had to remind myself to trust in the author. Promise ends in an emotional cliffhanger, so you might want to have the second book, Purpose, ready to read. I know I have it loaded on my Kindle ready to go.

A lot of people who are rating this with less than 3 stars keep comparing this book to Twilight. And I think that is sooo not true. I am actually a huge Twilight fan. What I loved most about it was the tension between Bella and Edward. And that brings me to this book… There was absolutely no tension at all between Alexis and Tristan. They just spend time together (doing and talking about absolutely nothing) and then they fall in love. It is sooo boring. And I believe Alexis is just plain stupid. She does not think about who she could be, or that Tristan and Owen are different from normal people.
She actually sees them playing basketball with superhuman strength and speed and she thinks, Oh hey they are really good, instead of: hey they could be just like me with superhuman abilities.
Everything in the story is described as a huge surprise to Alexis, when I guessed it all from page one.
And Tristan, I am sorry but I really didn’t like him. He is supposed to be a bad boy who turned good, but I just thought he was boooring. He had absolutely no personality. He just decided one day that he loves Alexis. I didn’t even find him all that dangerous. Not intriguing at all.
