Lots of Platitudes: Coach Yoast was the head football coach my senior year, the only year I attended F. C. Hammond HS, 1964-65. We went 2-7-1. Not a good record. Also not mentioned in the book, even though he said he learned more from failure than success. He was a nice guy, but a different man when he was assistant coach at T. C. Williams. You can’t ignore the stabilizing effect he had on race relations during a turbulent period, but Coach Furman had a tougher time winning his championships at T. C. He didn’t have TWO varsity football teams to cull and combine into one super team.

Advice from a good man and great coach

If you're looking for the differences between the film "Remember the Titans" and the real life story, this isn't it. It doesn't even really touch deeply upon the subject or go into depth about players other than Bertier. However, it's a good read into a good man and a great coach. Well worth it.
