It should have been a simple volunteer job. Keep the events for the Romancing the Capital convention running smooth. But from the moment Brigitte lays eyes on the male model dipped in purple, hired for the galactic party, she is thrown into a tizzy — mostly because of his stolen kiss.
Imagine her shock once she realizes he’s not an actor. This purple alien is for real!
And Phyr didn’t come to RTC alone. He brought a bunch of his mercenary friends to help him abduct all the single ladies. These readers are about to go on a galactic adventure wilder than anything they’ve ever read in a book — and hotter than anything they could have imagined.
Hello, my name is Eve Langlais and I am an International Bestselling author who loves to write hot romance, usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens .
I should warn you, I have a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. While well known for my shifter stories, I am also extremely partial to aliens, the kind who like to abduct humans and then drive them insane...with pleasure. Or do you like something a little darker, more serious? Then check out my cyborgs whose battle with humanity have captivated readers worldwide.
Reader Abduction is book seven in the Alien Abduction series by Eve Langlais.
This is not a good place to start the series, nor is this a good book. I should have read some reviews; before buying, but I’ve been enjoying this series so much and was on a purple alien kick…until this one. I didn’t like the plot nor did I care for the characters.
We start out at a romance convention and get to see several authors we know and love. It may sound cool at first, but the more I read the more it didn’t work for me. It was very hard to get over all the real authors mentioned. It felt like Eve was trying to sell us on all these other authors works.
Then we go into the author conspiring to have fans/friends abducted by aliens, so she can continue to write her purple alien books. It felt to much like what the slavers where doing in the other books in this series, when they would captured and kidnapped human women to sell to the highest bidder. The purple alines have this same plan, but to sell them on their own planet. It's unsavory and just killed the purple aliens as the fun loving aliens.
Then we have our 12 women who are abducted. Not one of them objected. They where all ok with this even our heroine, Brigitte. She did mildly object, but that doesn’t last. I didn’t care for Brigitte.
Then we have our hero, Phyr, his mind set is just wrong. He's to demanding, arrogant, and forcing sex with trade offs. Not the type of purple alien we've come to enjoy and love. He wasn’t fun at all. I didn’t like Phyr.
Last, everything happens within a day or two and the other women are not even mentioned or they are just glossed over and then deposited/dumped on the purple aliens planet. This one was lacking the fun abduction and banter that made the couples come together. It felt way to forced, sex slave like, and like the author is uncaring and disregarding for human rights.
All the other books in the Alien Abduction series have made me snort, giggle and laugh my ass off. Reader Abduction was not funny, didn’t hit it off with me, and the author has killed this series. I won’t be reading anymore purple aliens. I’m not quieting this author, but this one was just wrong in so many ways.
What happens at convention when horny female fans meet the - oh so sexy - purple hunks of their dreams... in the flesh?
Barbarians of Earth, I, and some of my comrades, have come to claim eligible females for our world.” “Yay!” someone screamed. “Take me!” To no one’s surprise, Bambi shouted from the back while her daughter Nicole exclaimed, “Mom! What about Dad?”
Whee! Such a fun treat for lovers of Eve's purple mercenaries! Who knew Eve Langlais was a scheming slave trader in disguise!
When is the next book convention, because I'm definitely booking a flight. Needless to say, I will not be wearing a tin foil hat either. Where is MY arrogant, purple hunk? I'm ready to be abducted! ;-)
Loved Phyr's mother by the way. Every mercenary needs someone who looks out for his best interests when he's to thick-headed to know what's right there in front of him.
Although each book in the series can be read as a standalone, I would not recommend starting with this one. Reader Abduction is so much more fun AFTER you have fallen hard for his fellow abductors.
I have generally enjoyed this series...until this one. Not sure how I feel about the notion of an author conspiring to have fans/friends abducted by aliens. Seems somewhere between unsavory and unethical, particularly since I suspect we might see some of these characters in upcoming books. Yes; I realize it's fiction, etc.
It bothers me far more that the women in general, and the h in particular, are ok with this. Oh come on; they abducted 12 women. Not a single one objected strongly enough to make them regret grabbing her?
There was a brief encounter with what I suspect might be the author's blue aliens - there was a space battle against another race whose populace was decimated by a virus that wiped out pretty much all their females. That race, btw, learned the hard way that not all women adapt to being kidnapped when one, upon discovering she was preggers, killed the alien who claimed her, then killed herself. The purple guys haven't run into this.
So our h objects mildly to being kidnapped, our H resists his own attraction, the story takes place over maybe a day or two and...through a whole lot of stuff completely skipped over by having everyone rendered unconscious and deposited on H's home planet (read: the author decided to give us 2/3 of a book as the beginning, then dump us on the home planet in time for him to admit to himself he wants to keep her, etc).
The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 💙💜💚 Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Chemistry: 🧪🧪🧪🧪 Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘 World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏 Character development: 🤓😋😀🥰 Narration: 🎙🎙🎙 Narration Type: Solo Narration
The heroine:Brigitte - she is a huge fan of romance books, especially alien romance, and she volunteered to run the Romancing the Capital reader convention. She hired some actors to attend the first event as purple aliens. When one of the actors arrives early, she is surprised at how hot and authentic looking he is. He is fully purple, huge and even has fake pointed teeth. When he kisses her, she is more than impressed with him. He even fakes an alien dialect. She tells him to come back when the even begins and gets back to her preparations for the event.
The Heroes:Phyr - After some of the other males of his race find human mates, he and some of his friends travel to the barbarian planet of Earth. They are from a mercenary race who gets everything by stealing and murdering. So, going against the galactic order against interfering on the barbarian planet, is nothing to them. He is an acquisition specialist and plans to make a lot of money auctioning off the human females so he can upgrade his ship.
The Story: Phyr returns to the event in time to rescue Brigitte from the actual actors she had hired to be the aliens. They looked so fake compared to Phyr and she was trying to fire them, after they acted like jerks. Phyr played his part to perfection at the convention, by putting Brigitte over his shoulder and carrying her into the ballroom full of romance authors and readers. He tells them all that he and some of his friends are looking for unattached females to take to his world. When the aliens handcuff twelve volunteers, including Brigitte, they think that it is all part of the show.
This premise had so much potential, I didn’t think I would like it at first, but the minute they abducted the women I was all in! The contrast between Brigitte’s playful enthusiasm for alien romance and Phyr’s mercenary pragmatism makes for an electrifying dynamic. The setup at the convention is clever—what better way for a real alien to blend in than by masquerading as an actor in an over-the-top reader event? I could already sense a mix of humor, danger, and sizzling tension. Phyr starts off purely self-serving, not intending to take one of the abducted women as his own, but something about Brigitte’s presence ends up challenging his worldview.
This audiobook was narrated from multiple perspectives, done in solo narration by Marie Smith. I really dislike solo narration, but I bought this book in boxed set and three narrators were listed so I hoped there would be dual narration for each of those books. I was not happy to find out that only the first of the four books was dual narration. Though I like the author and she does good stories, so I listened to this anyway, since I already paid for it. Marie has a decent voice, but it isn’t one of my favorites.
This was one of those ideas that sounded better than it actually was. I pre-ordered this book as soon as I saw it because I love this series but also because I thought the premise was hilarious. Sadly, much like the first pilot of Fuller House I feel like there were just too many nods to fans. Once you got past the initial abduction things progressed just like the other alien abduction books by Eve, the only problem was that so many words were spent on the beginning that I felt like the actual story was very rushed. The two main characters barely spent any time with each other but of course they were in love and of course Phyr resisted all the way up until the end. I don’t know, maybe I just wasn’t in the right mood for this? I was really looking forward to it and was so excited when it arrived but once I started reading I just didn’t feel it. If you’ve read the rest of the series I’m sure you’ll enjoy, but this is definitely not a good starting point for any newbies. 3/5
This is a hard one. I usually like Ms. Langlais' books, but this one really didn't do it for me. Ok, it's an average abduction-book, with the growly male who can't understand human female and therefore just acts plain crazy and nearly looses his woman before admitting she's his one and only.
The premise of aliens coming to a romance convention is in a way brilliant, but I feel it could have been executed a bit better.
This was disappointing. Since it is fiction, it was very hard to get over all the real authors mentioned in the text. It was also hard to get over the fact that half of it was like sales presentations where Eve tried to sell us other works by other authors. But okay. I managed to get over it, barely, when the aliens arrived. That is when it all went downhill. Eve's character basically "sold" twelve humans to the aliens for a trip to Venus. Cold, Eve! That just made you one of the slavers and totally degraded your public image. At least in my eyes it made you seem cheap, uncaring and disregarding for human rights. Way to kill my hype about this awesome author with awesome series. Yuck! As for the rest of the story.. it sucks. It is really hard to say that, but it does. The hero is weird, too arrogant, acting like a douche, while at the same time being a pussy because he has some mommy issues and cannot stand up for himself. The heroine? She is so fine with the whole abduction and sex thing it is not even funny. All the other books made me snort, giggle and laugh my ass off. This book? Not even one giggle whatsoever. It was not funny. It was not even absurdly funny. It was just absurd.
This hero was a misogynistic ass and I never saw any character growth in him. He treated her terribly throughout the story and I did not see any romance between them at all, so the HEA did not land for me. Also, although the breaking of the fourth wall in the opening scenes is played for laughs, implying that the author and several others would be complicit in getting women abducted by these mysognistic aliens (and not just this once, but repeatedly!) made the premise cross over into very unfunny territory.
I disliked how the author injected herself and other real authors into the story. Generally, this can introduce an interesting twist into a fantasy. The impression I got was that the author enables the abduction of her fans in return for being allowed to write romances about the abductions. This just seems wrong on so many levels.
Other than that, the story was okay but not up to the standards of other books I have read by her.
During a Convention where Eve´s Purple Warriors are supposed to be celebrated, a secret plan is in place, and now Brigitte finds herself abducted herself - by her own Purple Warrior. Is this really happening, and could she find the HEA the books always deliver? Quick, fun read with smutty fluff and purple awesomeness =)
OK, so this is probably not a 4-star story, but the premise is hilarious and well executed. Imagine if your favorite sci-fi author wasn't making up the tales, but recounting actual events from real aliens that she knows personally?
I read and enjoyed the first in the series, but have not read 2-6 yet. But I will.
I have generally liked the Alien Abduction series so far, not so this book.
So usually the series are silly reads that are a quick fun read with some humor and a little erotic sex. Do I agree with the mercenary mindset of the purple men, no, but I had found it a fun quirk that had laughs. This addition didn't have even one laugh for me. I didn't find any of it humorous.
And then the usual is a sexy lust that translate on page to luv. Well, nope I didn't feel that really. Usually they both were fighting any attraction because of his pig headedness that it really felt more like forced sex. She called him an asshat several times and I was thinking that the whole way through. There is not much sexy times even so as there was no sex until the end, very end, only oral before that and twice. So... how does two bouts of oral that is followed by asshat, asshat, translate into lust? I don't know because I was thinking, NO!
Finally the overall premise at the beginning of them abducting randomly the single women at a readers convention, didn't fly well. (read below for my update while reading) I would've probably gotten over that to just dock a star but the story afterward between them flopped big time.
So bad starting premise, no humor, sex is so so (this is semi-erotica but not), and the lust to luv angle fell flat. There is nothing for me to recommend this addition, especially since they mention at the end that the previous characters of the series seem fictional. Therefore the characters that I did like don't even exist anymore. At least Holiday Abduction revisited them.
170 pages took days to force me to get through, 10 minutes at a time. I don't know why I bother sometimes.
--------------update while reading---------------- 1/2 way through These are usually quick cute reads with aliens that think raiding and marauding is praise worth so you take them with the silliness that they are written. I'm just not getting that here. It is becoming a drawn out read and the cuteness and silliness is falling flat. It is not cute or silly here. It starts out at a readers convention where 12 women are kidnapped because they are single and they like the books written on the "true" characters of the purple aliens. The writer conspires to the kidnapping, "knowing" that they will have a good time. Umm... nope not funny and not sexy. So they get off the planet and you hope that you can over look the stupid premise at the beginning but... they come back to the 12 prisoners and auctioning them off. I don't care if all of these women are attracted to every purple alien world, attraction doesn't not get the kidnapping to be OK in any way. And when he talks of using her for the trip then adding her back to the women for auction. It is OK because she is attracted to him, her hormones prove it, so he will have sex with her and use her and put her back with the others. This is just not working for me and not pulling me to pick it up to finish it. I will as it is short but I don't see it getting better.
I laughed out loud so many times while reading this that I had to go sit in a room alone until I was done. This tale was priceless on so many levels. Langlais’ vibrant and at times snarky writing suits her characters perfectly. Her alien mercenaries are sizzling hot with personalities that both annoy and endear you to them. Because of the different (yet completely catchy) vibe and plot of this story the heroine does have a bit of a different feel from many of Langlais’ characters, but it fits perfectly into this story. That said, having read the rest of the series is a must to get the full enjoyment out of this tale. I love the anatomical differences and compatibilities between humans and the warriors of Aressotle. It allows everyone to stand out without making things just plain too odd to grasp.
This was the perfect dose of purple to make your day. As with all of Langlais’ work it was fun and exciting as a trip out of this world.
Absolutely awful. Normally Eve Langlais can write with tongue firmly in cheek. This one really fell down flat. To write about RL people willingly aiding and abetting in abduction and trafficking was appalling and I for one will never read another book by this author.
What a fun read! Ms. Langlais writes herself and other authors into this unique storyline. Perhaps a bit of marketing which is painless and had me copying and pasting authors to revisit and others to discover. (Warning, do not attend any of Ms. Langlais book signing events, she may have a nefarious plot afoot.)
I got this book for free from the author at the 2016 Romancing the Capitol book convention.
I feel bad that I didn't enjoy it more. I did not feel a connection between Bridgette and Phyr. They didn't seem to really like each other, then all of a sudden it's love...come on.
I thought the series was ridiculous enough at this point. The type of “it’s SO bad, that it’s actually funny and enjoyable.” But then this book pops up. It is beyond ridiculous and so stupidly silly. Definitely worth the time.
HEH! I'd forgotten how much I enjoy spending time with these big, purple aliens. They're arrogant and hot-headed and they steal their women with alarming regularity. WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE?!?!
Phyr is definitely a prime specimen. He's arrogant. He's deadly. It takes him a while to realize the lady he's growling over is the one for him. A long while. And Brigitte keeps him on his toes while he comes to that realization. She fights him. She pushes against his "rules". As any abductee should, amitrite?
What can I say? I like these purple guys. They have no problem with the killing and maiming of their enemies and when they find the woman who matches them they do what they do best. Which mostly involves kidnapping. Being an acquisitions specialist makes them very good at the abduction part.
I have not read the previous books in the series, but it did not stop me from being able to follow along in the book.
I found the subtle winks winks that the author left in the book that talks about this series to be mildly distracting for me. When I read an author's name, I was pulled from the book by thinking about the authors in RL. It was very disconcerting for me. I am also not quite sure how Brigitte and Phyr fell in love. It just seemed as if they were suppose to and they did. The other characters like the spaceship Ju'el was interesting and pushed the story forward, but I wish there was just more interactions between Brigitte and Phyr besides sexual attraction.
I loved reading this book! I will never look at some of the authors the same again!! Now if you see me constantly wearing a foil hat but then taking it off again at a convention you will only understand if you have read the book. Although it sounds like I might have already been taken and maybe I'm now in on the plot? Is that the reason I made it to RTC the first year but not the second? Overall this is a great read if you love Eve Langlais and purple mercenaries I do recommend you read the other books in the series in order to fully enjoy this one!
Adaka patut watak ya (lam buku tok nya sebagai penulis), nya soh dak alien pi culik dak kawan-kawan ngan peminatnya. Tempat ya belaku time konferens buku. Kak ya nya padah, "njoi kenak ngan dak alien papel!" Yoh!
Tauk sik apa nasib dak kawan-kawan ngan peminatnya tok? Kenak jual jadi kupu-kupu malam pake dak alien *facepalm*
Mek dah sik tahan, mek DNF trus. Sik mek mok buang masa baca plot kedak ya koh. Melambak gik cita lom dibaca worth masa mek.
Okay let me start of by saying I was a bit let down by this last instalment in the Alien Abduction series. Don't get me wrong it starts of with a bang, one of the funniest book set ups ever I definitely enjoyed the start of it, having actual authors appear in the book convention and having our actual Eve Langlais be the host of the occasion and set up all the single ladies to be abducted by the real purple hunks of her NOT make believe books had me in a laugh riot most hilarious plot ever!!! While our main characters Brigitte and Phyr were on earth the chemistry between them was good they seemed attracted to one another but as soon as he abducted her and took her to his ship things changed. He no longer seemed to be passionate and chivalrous but turned callouse, pig-headed, insensitive, selfish and just plain dislikeable. I had trouble liking him as much as I tried but he just kept doing such crappy things to our heroine I couldn't change my opinion of him if anything I kept disliking him more. Unlike the other books in which the male seemed to be stubborn and pig-headed they weren't really unlikeable or too mean to their leading ladies and eventually an emotional and loving bond happened between them with time, seeing the male lead realising his affection to the female and leading to a mating between them. That was not the case in this book, Phyr was just mean and emotionless, yes he wanted Brigitte was attracted to her but he was terrible to her, we get snippets of some sort of remorse in him but not enough to change even though were told he'd like to keep her. Until the very last moment decides he wants her and intends to keep her even tough they hadn't had sex in the whole book just oral foreplay left me unbelieving his affection for her as they hadn't spent that much time together as he kept avoiding her to build any sort of credible feelings for her. It just didn't seem believable there love story felt rushed and didn't build up with time like the others did even their eventual sex scene felt lacking, during he didn't utter a single word no 'Your Mine' or passionate endearment of any kind, they just did it and then he bit her the end. Even though I'm left feeling disappointed id still read any other books if released on this series as I enjoy this writer's books and enjoyed the previous 6 in this series, it would take a lot more to deter me from this amazing author.
I thought this was simply a 7th book to a series that I needed to read in order to complete it. Because I'm a completionist. But I think this had a dual purpose perhaps - instead of just being a story, there was a lot of name-dropping...of people I have never heard of. Probably authors, possibly fans - who knows. Apparently one needs in depth knowledge of the fandom and the other writers in the genre to really know what some characters are talking about. It's also kind of jarring for the author to write herself into the story. Not hating it, just very unexpected.
As for the story itself, the two main characters Brigitte and Phyr are very similar to other couples in the series. He's an alien warrior who is intrigued by the idea of taking unwilling women to the marriage market for the thrill of acquisitions and sales. She's a plus size lady who balks at being abducted, but allows her hormones to pretty much do her in every time. It's because of her hormones that Phyre finds it so incredibly easy to humiliate and irritate her at every turn. Which becomes frustrating for the reader because, good God, couldn't she get the best of him just once? His brand of arrogance is so not charming. Especially when he forces her to barter oral sex for clothes. He's a misogynistic ass who never matures and doesn't learn very much throughout the story. He's never even remotely nice to her, so why does she fall in love with him? Because he's purple and sexy?
What I found extremely disturbing in this story though is the acceptance of human trafficking. It's one thing when the alien race trafficks earthlings because they're alien, with crazy, different actions and beliefs that set them apart from humans. In most cases they learn their lesson about it. Even as the aliens learn about it, the humans in the story are always adamant that it is NOT okay to sell other humans. But in this case, there are two human women who encourage it, one of them being the author herself in character. She actually arranges for 12 women to volunteer for what they think is a pretend-abduction, only for them to find out they're actually being kidnapped to be sold on a marriage market, against their will. The heroine also supports human trafficking when she suggests that they go back to Earth for more, since everyone needs a purple hunk. Well, what we don't get to see is the experience of the other 11 women who were sold in marriage to alien men, so how do we know things turned out well for them? I get it, it's just a light-hearted, fun story and I need to lighten up, but this is just personal for me. I just really don't find this topic very sexy.

This is the best story in this series in my opinion! I loved how the author was involved in this story. Not to mention a few of her friends. So, I was hoping that Phyr, Tren, Vhyl, or one of the other gorgeous purple hunks has an uncle or unattached father looking for a earthly barbarian female. Preferably, a petite, full figured African American past child bearing years that can shoot a weapon and looking for adventure. But,I digress. This book is a great read that I couldn't put down! Awesome writing! Full of fun and surprises. Brigitt is a hoot to boot!
Brigitte is a volunteer making sure the Romancing the Capital convention runs smooth but she doesn't know about the extra Eve planned. Phyr and two other warriors kidnap Brigitte and eleven other women to be sold as mates. On the short journey to Aressotle, Brigitte falls for Phyr. A journey which contained fights with other aliens, another kidnapping and rescue. Phyr won't admit his feelings for Brigitte but won't allow her to be sold either. He steals her and mates her. A nice surprise for Brigitte is she not only netted her personal purple warrior but also a prince.
I've enjoyed the previous books in this series with a grain of salt. They're not meant to be taken too seriously. This one fell flat as a pancake. The premise was rather eye-rolling and felt forced. There was no character development. The H is an ass and doesn't redeem himself in the end. The h was better, but still annoying in her waffling. The story felt like part of it was missing. I had preordered this when it came out, although it took me two years to read. Now that I have a bad taste in my mouth, I rather wish I hadn't bothered.
I really don't like when an author interjects themselves into their books and even though it was done tongue-in-cheek, I still didn't like it. Also, the story was just too quick with almost zero character development. The romantic involvement was very forced and uninspired. I have really liked this series for the most part, but this book just didn't do it for me. I do hope that E.L. writes more in this series because it has been a lot of fun.
Good book but I do think the readers are a bit stupid. I mean they said that the alien abduction is an EVENT, NOT entertainment. There is a difference people. An event is something that HAPPENS while entertainment is fun. So I don't get why they would volunteer to be abducted then changed their mind when they do get 'abducted'. I hate people who say one thing then do something completely different or changes their mind.
Ms Langlais has spun more fun! This time her abduction comes in a surprising way but ends just as deliciously as always! I can’t tell you more or I’d give something away... but I am wondering how to get tickets to the next reader’s convention.... hmmmm.
The first chapter of Alien Abduction had me feeling like I was in a alternate universe! It was all so normal... Until it wasn't! Imagine attending a romance novelist conference only to find out the aliens of your fantasies were real. And they have come for you! I mean, every purple hunk needs a feisty female to blow his....mind.
