The Descendants was a wonderful read! Jaclyn E. Brod put a twist of eeriness and spookiness in this novel that I loved! It kept you on the edge of your seat wondering what was going to happen next. I especially liked Theo and his clumsy antics of trying to get the girl. Job well done Author Brod!!

The world looks bleak in Jaclyn E. Brod's futuristic world created in The Descendants. Employees within Dr. Grant's lab are nothing more than slaves doing her bidding. The guards are protecting the Confinement - but from what or who? When head guard Theo is reassigned to guard duty in the lab, he comes to the realization that maybe the prisoners aka Experiments are not the evil creatures they all have been lead to believe. Joining forces with Jaxs, a female Experiment, Raven the Reaper, and a handful of his most trusted subordinates, Theo and his group devise a plan of escape. Will the plan work and will they live to see another day?

The Descendants is a pretty good story about those who blindly follow finally realizing that their leader may be up to no good. The character development and world building is done slowly but nicely. There is definitely a shift in Theo's character as the horrors of what transpires in the Lab breach his conscience. Unable to continue standing idly by, Theo begins to really look at things in the Lab; how things are run, who the other Experiments are, why there is a huge metal box...

Some of the dialogue is choppy but the storyline and characters are interesting. The book is engaging and it's hard to put the book down until you know how the book ends. There is a small amount of suspense built into the story and you wonder who is going to win - a classic pairing of good vs. evil. The book is suitable for most age groups in terms of content.

This book was a quick, fun read that kept me turning pages to the end. I read the majority of it in one night because I wanted to see what happened next. There were some really interesting concepts throughout the story and some great descriptions. I enjoyed getting to know the main character as time went on. He started out pretty average, but as the book went on, he became more interesting and relatable. The villain was also excellent. So cool, collected, and vicious.

The author did a wonderful job building all her characters. They were very complex. This made them less predictable, and in turn made the plot seem less predictable. Some of the characters I didn't get to know as much as I would like, but I'm sure I'll get to read more about them in book 2. It did start a little slow, but once I got going, the plot took off and I was left wanting more after reading the final sentence.

First, I'd like to thank the author for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Jaclyn E. Brod's debut paranormal, fantasy, The Descendants, was a fun and entertaining read with a few surprises!
The main character, Theo, will not disappoint readers. I loved him and his awkward relationships with women. Finally, a man who's not full of himself! And I also grew to like Jaxs and Sage.

The only qualm I had with The Descendants was repetition. But other than that, the story itself was engaging and the characters interesting enough to keep me reading till the end to find out what happens to them.

This debut author has imagination and an interesting set of characters all set inside a spooky castle. Theo's job is a life sentence so he has a something in common with the prisoners kept there and experimented on. The author did a good job of keeping you guessing about who would become allies and enemies.

What the flying effing fluffs was that like how dare you do this to me to start I wasn't understanding the book and then the plot smacked me like the Japanese bullet train and to keep this up everything seems to be for naught? Aside from that the plot and characters were maserfully created and they fitted gracefully
