Landry's Back in Town is the first book in Margery Scott's Rocky Ridge western historical romance series. This is a short novella, around 150 pages, and cosidering how short it is the plot is quite good.

Landry grew up in Rocky Ridge and when he tried to stop his brother from making a choice that would land him in trouble with the law, things so wrong and Landry is thown in jail alongside his brother Years have since passed and he is trying to reestablish his life in this town, but the residents are not ready to forget his past. Part of the problem is he keeps to much to himself and so many of his neighbors have no reason to feel they can trust him. But a chance encounter with Oliva Harding leads to him putting himself out there more and things begin to turn around for him. But all this could be destroyed by the return of his brother, a bitter man who is not interested in putting things right and returning to the life he lived before in this town.

Within the limited number of pages, the author creates characters that grow and develope through the chapters. They are relatable and sincere and as a result you become invested in how things will turn out. I was glad that for the added tension of Landry's brother and his friends returning to town to create a conflict for Landry. Without this addition to the storyline the plot would have felt flat and incomplete and I don't think Landry's standing in the town would have been as altered.

This is the second book that I have read by Margery Scott and so far I enjoy the writing style she uses in her novellas, I will probaby read more from her in the future.

This is a short sweet, tender Western historical romance and I enjoyed it very much. Olivia is a likeable heroine. She inherited a house and stipend from her grandfather and spends much of her time helping out at the town orphanage, something she finds very fulfilling. She meets Landry when he comes to her rescue after she's been accosted on her way home. Right away she likes him. But he's kind of the town pariah and has only recently be released from prison after being accused of helping a bank robbery his brother and a couple of others committed. Even though many of the townspeople don't want him in their town, to him its home. He has recently purchased the livery and is determined to stay.

Landry also has growing feelings for Olivia also but he's very aware that nothing can happen between them because of his past but Olivia doesn't care and doesn't want to accept Landry's decision. Complicating matters is Landry's brother and cohorts are back in town and Landry knows they are planning something and his brother is trying to get Landry to join them. Landry still loves his brother despite him going to the dark side so to speak.

This is a book about redemption, two lonely and likeable people falling in love. The only thing keeping this from being five stars is it's a kisses only book and I prefer a book with at least a bit of steam. But still I'm more than happy to read more of Margery Scott. In fact I already have a couple more already loaded on my kindle.

Landry’s Back In Town is book one of the Rocky Ridge series of Western romances.

At just 180 pages this is short novel or a long novella. Set in Rocky Ridge Colorado, the story’s main character is Olivia, a young women who works in the town orphanage, while Landry is an ex-convict.

After serving prison time for a crime he did not commit, Landry has found it hard to reintegrate within society in his home-town where many still see him as guilty. However, when he rescues Olivia from a drunk intending to assault her, Olivia is determined to help him in return to become respected by the town once more.

This story skipped along at a fair pace and I enjoyed the setting and the era. The romantic theme began swiftly and developed in a little will-they, won’t-they back and forth before reaching a satisfying ending.

Olivia inherited a house from a grandfather she never met. She now lives in that house in Rocky Ridge and she volunteers at the orphanage. She loves living here and she loves working at the orphanage.

She is on her way home when she is attacked by a drunken man. But, she is saved by a stranger. He is Landry, he owns the livery stable and he is an ex-convict. He has returned to Rocky Ridge and he is continually being made to feel unwelcome.

Olivia is someone who wants to help people. She believes that she can help Landry be welcomed back into town. She continually reminds him that people will welcome him if he is friendly. When he starts practicing what Olivia preaches, he does see tiny hints of warmth coming his way.

This is a short story with a terrific plot. The town is not forgiving but when they look closely, they begin to realize that Landry is a good man who wants to be a part of life.

When his brother returns, Landry must explain to him that no matter what, he plans to stay and make a life for himself.

Ms Scott has written a story which makes the reader want good things for Olivia and Landry and everyone else in town. The action moves along at a good pace.

This is a really enjoyable book.

This is a historical western, a trope I adore, but don't read many of. I can't seem to find that one book that will start my heart racing and keep it going at full-tilt-boogie until the end. I know they're out there. I've read some. They're just unicorns and I will always be looking for them.

With that being said, this book wasn't a bad book by any stretch of the imagination. It was clean, sweet, with some characters that I liked and some I didn't and wasn't supposed to, a great story, and a pretty even pace.

Landry Mitchell is an ex-convict who has come back to his hometown to start over after being released from prison. He was a farmer before he ended up in prison and is now a blacksmith. Most everybody shuns him or avoids him unless they absolutely can't. He's the only blacksmith in town and people need to have things fixed and their horses shod. Other than that, he was a pariah.

But Olivia Harding didn't see him that way. After he rescued her from a serious predicament, she regarded him as a hero. She didn't know who he was. His crime had been committed before she moved to Rocky Ridge. All she knew was that he saved her and was grateful that. She did think he was handsome and kind, which he was, but what was even more important was that he deserved forgiveness from the townspeople. She made it her quest to see that he would have every opportunity to mingle and let these judgmental people know that he was a changed man. The question was did he really need that forgiveness or did they need to shove their judgments where the sun doesn't shine?

Olivia was such a giver. She volunteered at the orphanage and was always interacting with the children and helping wherever she could and never taking anything for herself. All she really wanted was a husband and a family, but she considered herself a spinster. Other men had been interested in her, but she could form no romantic interest in any of them. Until Landry Mitchell stepped into her life.

I loved both of these characters. Their separate stories were done well as was the story of them being together. There is zero steam in this book, which was fine with me, but I know some people prefer it, no feels or stolen touches. There were a few kisses, but that was the extent of it. However, I did enjoy the story. It was sort of like reading an episode of Gunsmoke or Bonanza (that is a compliment, Ms. Scott). Evenly paced with a few bad people and an ending that I really wanted.

I was wishing for more pizzazz. Maybe at the dance or with the deputy, which is why I gave this four stars, but overall it was a good read.

***MINOR SPOILERS ***
Rating 4 stars
This book is the first in the Rocky Ridge series. The author has another series, the Morgans of Rocky Ridge, in the same town and some of those characters appear in this story. It can be read as a standalone.
Despite some of the sad or negative events or issues that are addressed in this book, it manages to have an optimistic, positive tone. In the first few pages, Landry rescues Olivia from a potential rapist. Olivia volunteers at an orphanage. Landry comes back to Rocky Ridge after being released from prison and faces some ostracism and hostile reactions when he just wants to be accepted and part of the community. Nevertheless, the author’s positive tone carries the day. I thought the message of circumstances/people can change was a good one. The idea that you work towards the change you want is empowering.
I thought the relationship between Olivia and Landry could have been developed a little more. Olivia wants someone to love, but why Landry? Landry needs that and wants to be married, but why Olivia? I admired that Olivia was determined to help Landry become more accepted by the community (he had been in prison). She had a few ideas, and they were good ones.
There was one scene where Landry kisses Olivia on her front porch and I was surprised that it was not noticed by someone. She lives in town. If they had been noticed, I think it would have sparked a negative reaction.
Landry’s brother is in the book, and I thought he had an interesting storyline.
This book is a quick, easy read. The dialogue is realistic. The pace is good.
I recommend this book for anyone looking for a sweet positive read. I took off a star for the lack of relationship development, but I liked it.

Another awesome story by Margery Scott.

Wow, I love this author and this story was wonderful. If you love historical western Romance then you will love this story.
It has everything a good romance has including a town that is unforgiving of one of their own, or actually two of their own that went to prison. Two brothers, one doing wrong, the other trying to stop him and not part of it but there to stop his brother from doing something very bad and getting convicted just from being there. It has a new woman in town whom he saves from something that could have really been bad for her, and is now falling for her when he knows nothing, could never become anything because he's an ex-con and doesn't want her messed up with the likes of him.
Then the towns people not wanting him back there. But she is kind to him even knowing he was in prison. He is baffled by her but can't stay away. There's an orphanage there she volunteers at everyday and she lends a hand to anyone in need and that includes him. He's served his time so he should be forgiven.
So there's romance, sneering and gossiping towns people, very few people going to his livery unless the other blacksmith is too busy or can't do some of the things he can.
Then his brother and his partners in crime get out of prison finally and show up back in town. Trouble, romance, forgiveness, redemption all rolled into a great story. Oh but so much more. I think you should give this story a try. I think you'll enjoy it as much as I did. Oh and it clean.

Landry’s Back in Town

Olivia and Landry’s story

Tobias and Landry grew up in this town they are brothers. Tobias and his friends robbed the bank but Landry came up to stop them and was accused of the crime even though he didn’t do wrong. He got a job learning how to be a black smith. When he heard the livery was for sale in his hometown he buys it. But it’s harder then he thinks it will be, no one trusts him. They still think he is a criminal.

Olivia is walking home from working in the orphanage, and a man steps out and grabs her and forced her into the alley, she is scared and fighting back. Landry saves her from the attack.

Daniel is an orphan and is very quiet, he misses his parents. He doesn’t eat or speak to anyone. Olivia plans a picnic for all the children in the orphanage, she needs to borrow a wagon because the one at the orphanage is in poor condition. Landry offers his after telling her that he would let her use his.
Will everyone treat Landry better? Forgive him?

Good story I enjoyed reading it.

Landry Mitchell went to prison with his brother because Landry was trying to convince his brother to leave before robbing the bank. Landry was swept up with the three others and went to jail for three years. When he got out, he worked for a blacksmith and later bought a blacksmith shop in his hometown. Rocky Ridge, Colorado. However, sometimes a person can't go home again. The town is unforgiving, and Landry is barely making ends meet.

One day, Landry saves Olivia Harding from a drunk man with evil designs on Olivia. Although warned by her friends, Olivia is a warm-hearted individual who sees the goodness in others. She welcomes a friendship with the ex-con. Olivia is independent, owning her home with a small inheritance. She spends her days volunteering at the orphanage in town. Things are progressing between Olivia and Landry until his brother and two partners come back to town. Tobias is trying to get Landry to join in one last caper, but Landry isn't buying. There's a showdown, but I didn't feel the resolution was realistic. Overall score = 3.5 stars.

Sweet western romance

Landry was an ex-con. He had been in the wrong place at the wrong time and was convicted of robbery along with his brother and two other men. Now he was back, but few in the town he wasraised in would even speak to him. The smithy he owned got everyone's business only because it was the only one around. He figured it would be that way forever, but the little blonde who was attacked in the alley by a drunk changed everything. And she made him dream of a future that was out of reach to an ex-con. Things began to slowly change when she asked him to go to church, and even more when he helped an elderly neighbor repair his leaky roof. Could he possibly have a future here? That's when his brother, Tobias, and the two guys who'd robbed the bank came back, and the future began to seem bleak....

Great story. Well-written and fast-paced, it held my attention. Thanks for a goodread, Ms Scott.

Olivia and Landry

Landry has just saved Olivia from being attacked by a drunk and dragged into a dark alley, so why is the deputy Emmett acting like it was Landry who attacked her? When Zane the Sheriff takes her home she asks why and he tells her he is an ex-convict and that he and his brother Tobias robbed the bank 6 six years ago but he had served his whole sentence. Olivia can't get him out of her mind so when she goes to the orphanage to help the next day with the meals and the children as she has since coming to town two years ago Almira, her boss, notices she's distracted. What happens next will surprise you! You need to read this great story by Margery Scott to find out what happens.

Can an ex .com find a new lige

Olivia was walking home when a stranger accosted her. Landry, who had been in prison, rescued her. He saw her home and she invited him for dinner but he wouldn't come unless someone else was there. Many people in the town could not forget that he was an ex-con and didn't want to ruin her reputation. She talked her friend, Pricilla, and her husband the sheriff, to come to dinner. Landry kissed her and knew he was list. His brother, who was also in prison, came to town with a few friends to get rich. Landry didn't know what he planned to do until it was too late. Can he save his brother? Can be have the woman he loves? This is a very nice story and a quick read.

Landry's Back in Town by Margery Scott
This story starts out with Olivia and she's on her way back from the orphanage where she helps out. Her relative had passed and left her and house and she loved the area so took up residence.
Story is also following Landry Mitchell who's been released after serving his full sentence in prison.
Love how he comes to the resuce of her being attacked. Misconceptions and she likes giving second chances.
Love hearing about her baking back then and of his blacksmithing work, along with other good deeds for the neighbors.
Never saw it ending as it did, super good surprise.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

This is the first book I've read by this author and if this story is an indication of all her writings this wont be my last. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Olivia and Landry.
Landry is an ex-con and the town residents are long on sneers and short on forgiveness.
Olivia moved to town 2 years ago when a Grandfather she never met left her his house in his will and a small inheritance to live by.
Obviously there is a lot more to the story but you will have to read it for yourself. It us a standalone and a HEA. Well worth reading.

He meets a young woman, who do anything for his attention. Tobias the oldest brother is released. The brothers quarrel, about striking it rich. Landry wants no part, he begs Tobias to stay. Live clean life not be hunted down. Good clean story, with hardships, a happy ending.

You can count on this author to give you a good story-line. The book is a clean read, has romance, life itself and leaves you with a good feeling. I enjoyed it! Landry Mitchell wants to be a good citizen, owns a business and feels the tug of the want of a family. Then he meets Olivia Harding and wonders if he could ever be good enough for her. The book can be read in an afternoon and long remembered. Thanks for a great story.

Landry Mitchell just wants to start fresh and forget what happened in the past. When he moves back home to try and do that it's not the warm welcome he would love to have. Olivia Harding loves her home that her Grandfather has left for her and the life she lives. Caring for others at the orphanage in her spare time and just enjoying life is what Olivia likes. She's not searching for love but finding it close to home may be in the cards. This is a feel good historical romance.

He went to jail because it was assumed he was part of the gang that robbed the bank. When he meets a young woman who works at the orphanage, she believes in him. They take the children on a picnic . . .and fall in love. Still no-one believes him. And when the old gang comes back . . . well lets just say life gets even more interesting!!!! I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts and comments are my own.

Sweet story

I chose a 5* for this mostly because it was basically clean. Beyond a few suggested thoughts and some minor swear words and kissing it was sweet. The storyline was predictable but the characters and situations made it an interesting read. It was easy to relate and really like them. I enjoyed it enough to stay up longer than I should have!

A nice dead

Overall I enjoyed this story. However there were several
times I skipped over parts in order to get on with the main story. I liked the main characters, along with the other characters in the story. They were all realistic in their part of the story. I found some parts unrealistic as the story came to an end. However the ending itself was good.
